This is an awesome video to show young javelin throwers on what you can do without the approach. I coached high school javelin for a couple years and all the kids focused only on their approach. To make my point, I would stand still and out-throw my best throwers when they used the approach.
Roald, Wish my wife would have had the support when she was younger (15yrs old) She could throw javelin from a stand still also 75mtr. She just couldn't mange the run up.She regrets not persuing athletics, back then she was pushed into the factory.
@Roald62 ofc, but there isn't a particolar conditioning? i don't thing it s only about following a procedure. and..1 more question.. what's your personal best at throwing a stone? (i know it s weird cause they have different weight and shape) do the golf ball travels more than a sharp-disc shaped stone?
@magickrizzh What will you gain in stand still, if you first bow and then stretch you will generate an upwards power. Blocking is purely so the body speed will get into the arm, but without a run up it's useless, although I wont recommend doing it in practice because you will get used to it, but if you want to throw as far as possible from a stand still I would bow it 2
@magickrizzh Your comment doesnt make sense, from a stand still it does not matter whether your left leg (as right hand thrower) is locked or not since you don't have any speed, what would be the point of blocking?
@Roald62 i also throw javelin, but im not going to pretend that this is impossible just because i cant come close to it while running. People, this is one of the greatest throwers in the world; its not that hard to realize that this is legit.
haha, thats exactly why troy is a movie... javelin isnt about how strong your arm is either, its all core muscles for the hip turn, plant, and then you use your hand to follow through (trajectory and aim). plus, we dontt know how heavy that jav is, length looks like regulation but you never know.
Hey Roald nice to see your vids & taking the heat from the kids...lol I only ever threw a few times but always loved watching Jav as a kid Took up rugby instead though the 'arm' came in useful on the cricket field in my teens. See you threw 68 in the US trials last year.. great effort. Is there a veteran Javelin record?
Mr Querty before you discredit Roald - you should realise that the Finns (the art exponents of this event) acknowledge Roald's prowess in the standing throw. Instead of making such negative comments - do your research first. Roald was famous for this in the mid 80s.
Looks like the nerd-ragers found this video, don't know how but they made it here. I saw you throw once at the Jenner Classic alongside Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses and Mike Conley in SJ, I always watched your videos with interest when I was learning to throw in HS because I never understood how you made that wrap work as well as you did. Sure wish I had access to the internet and videos like these back then, that T&F Omnibook and Robert Sings book were all we had, and both were incomprehensible.
wow, i love all the idiots posting stupid comments about this video, i've done track and field for around 4 years now, and i can tell just by watching his form: release, speed, and plant of his left foot, that he must have thrown freakin' far, his technique was almost perfect, so regardless of him Scratching the throw, it must have still been quite a flyer.
From what I saw I could tell that it was a great throw, but frankly 75m is a little hard to believe, and it doesn't help that you didn't even bother to have the person filming the throw go a verify the distance. If it was 75m then great job, but I have my doubts (understandably).
maybe this is a dumb question, but how do we know it went 75 m?? if you are going to say it may be the longest standing thorw ever, you should have some kind of proof and not just flash "75 meters" on the screen.
There's no way. Cause the world record (I could be wrong, don't hold it against me) Is 72 meters. I throw javelin and there's no way that's 75 meters just standing there
75 Yards? I have that beat with a football. YES I HAVE VIDEO! Of me at the old Texas stadium. Standing @ own 37 and put it through uprights! @ 19 seconds in. Thats 80+
@Roald62 SOME SERIOUS ARM SPEED AND TEKNIQUE THEN THROWING A 800G FROM STANDING BUT THEN AGAIN IT WAS OVER 25 YEARS AGO ,SO YES I HAVE TO AGREE DUE TO DIFFERENT WIGHTS DIMENSIONS ETC
This is an awesome video to show young javelin throwers on what you can do without the approach.

To make my point, I would stand still and out-throw my best throwers when they used the approach.
Theyll never reach what theyre capable of without a good approach
I wouldn't consider that a standing throw even though that is amazingly far.. But the old javelin does fly a lot better too
Roald, Wish my wife would have had the support when she was younger (15yrs old) She could throw javelin from a stand still also 75mtr. She just couldn't mange the run up.She regrets not persuing athletics, back then she was pushed into the factory.
No matter how anyone puts it this was clearly an amazing throw.
old javelin people, its like a 50m standing throw nowadays
dear god ill never get that time back
his parents must have been spartans
@Roald62
ofc, but there isn't a particolar conditioning?
i don't thing it s only about following a procedure.
and..1 more question.. what's your personal best at throwing a stone?
(i know it s weird cause they have different weight and shape)
do the golf ball travels more than a sharp-disc shaped stone?
Well, the guy it hit was standing at 75 meters but when he fell over it was more like 76.
Yeah, Bradstock is crazy. For those of you who don't believe it, he went on to throw 90m later that day, so hah I believe the man. Incredible.
75m is 82 yards, you would think that the javelin would be able to go farther than a football. Because of the aerodynamics.
so does that mean i can video myself throwing a discus, not show where it lands and simply say that it landed 475.29 meters away from me?
standing? looks like he took some steps to me.
@Roald62
have you got other videos? of training and other stuff for example
Looks like you could poke your eye out with that thing.
@magickrizzh What will you gain in stand still, if you first bow and then stretch you will generate an upwards power. nah you're the man for this throw, i mean the kid on this site that hey " hey look at me i'm 14 and i throw 60m"
it went so far you couldn't see it anyways.
yknow this dude did go to the olympics
how can i improve considerably my standing throw?
what's the basis.
@Roald62 my bad lol. I was just watching a video on world record throws and I wasn't sure if it was updated or not
beautifully said
"Over the line! Mark it zero"
ughh i missed it. can you replay it again?
That is impressive.
@magickrizzh Your comment doesnt make sense, from a stand still it does not matter whether your left leg (as right hand thrower) is locked or not since you don't have any speed, what would be the point of blocking?
his foot past the line he's disquallafed
Running start. Standing means starting the throw from a standstill.
Hi Brad
For curiosity, sorry, how much meters with a pebble ?
the top of your life,please
thanks
@Roald62 i also throw javelin, but im not going to pretend that this is impossible just because i cant come close to it while running. People, this is one of the greatest throwers in the world; its not that hard to realize that this is legit.
he didn't even show where the javelin went just the throw the whole time
haha, thats exactly why troy is a movie... javelin isnt about how strong your arm is either, its all core muscles for the hip turn, plant, and then you use your hand to follow through (trajectory and aim). plus, we dontt know how heavy that jav is, length looks like regulation but you never know.
he started out of bounds
he stepped over the line , re throw .
Is there a veteran Javelin record?
they measure the distance from the line.... therefore if he crosses it, the true distance is shorter
I've heard 82 meters with the old javelin.
@Roald62 The bending and then stretching you mean
how d u drive the hips so fast i barely move them..
@santeenl the left leg has to be locked, both in standing throw and with speed. you will generate more power, and throw longer.
@Suckfest83 Yes, yes, you´r right. The distance of throws are measured by watching the videos.
Mr Querty before you discredit Roald - you should realise that the Finns (the art exponents of this event) acknowledge Roald's prowess in the standing throw. Instead of making such negative comments - do your research first. Roald was famous for this in the mid 80s.
you stepped over the line budd..
And with the first pick in the Caveman Hunters of Mastadons draft, the RoyalGK tribe selects...
That guy!
he still a javelin 75m Reguardless of whether he stepped over the line or not.
Better add another 10 million it took me to get there
can we see how far it went
just like everbody else said he stepped over the white line
@Roald62 , even though i was injured....i knew i wouldnt have a chance....it really was an honor to compete against ya
how the hell do we judge the distance of the throw of we cant see where it lands?
Looks like the nerd-ragers found this video, don't know how but they made it here.

@HonestMagnet mixed up yards and feet x) my bad. Silly measurements, I stick to meters anyways :D
just leave they guy alone and dont say this is boring because you picked the video of someone throwing a javlin anyway...
you know what this vid didnt show, what happens after the throw...
Wow..... that arm is damn fast.
the point of a video is to show wat happened but you cant see it
I threw against him this past weekend at UGA! I so got my butt kicked by him!!!! It was pretty amazing to see someone of his age destroy us!
the 2 dudes on the back acting like : i dont give a fuck :S
@Roald62
are u saying it for real?
so zelezny how much with a standing throw?i thought it was all about run up...
jealous much roald is the man/ a freak of nature u should have mad respect for this guy
he stepped over the line so the "worlds longest standing throw" is a foul
could we see him throw once more.
wow, i love all the idiots posting stupid comments about this video, i've done track and field for around 4 years now, and i can tell just by watching his form: release, speed, and plant of his left foot, that he must have thrown freakin' far, his technique was almost perfect, so regardless of him Scratching the throw, it must have still been quite a flyer.

So.....? How for did it go?????
Why would an olympic class javelin thrower throw a stand throw in competition?
that shit can go through 10 people
Well the Info on the video and the video itself make me think it wasn't just practice.
okay this video showed me a guy throwing a spear in slow motion about 50 times, and not show where the fuck it landed.
id hate to be the one to get hit by that spear lol
That was a foul. the distance doesn't matter because it doesn't count. N00b
wtf was that? Are we supposed to take your word for it?
i reckon it wouldnt have been counted because he stepped the line but i dunno much about Javelin rules.
well seeing if this was in a track and field event. it wouldn't have counted seeing he crossed the line by a mile lol.
Jan Zelezny was able to throw 85 metres in this way...
i thought i was gonna watcha football throw
maybe this is a dumb question, but how do we know it went 75 m?? if you are going to say it may be the longest standing thorw ever, you should have some kind of proof and not just flash "75 meters" on the screen.
There's no way. Cause the world record (I could be wrong, don't hold it against me) Is 72 meters. I throw javelin and there's no way that's 75 meters just standing there
dude was an extra in 300 so he thought he was cool lol
Well if ur gonna count that as a two step
@Roald62 but if u look his foot was over the line
he looks like LaMar from revenge of the nerds
you can't believe that anyone could see that as an serious try for a standing recort!!!!!!!!! without seeing the landing of javelin
if u catch it u can keep it
I dont understand , he is at a stand still but he takes two steps? Doesn't a stand still mean you are not moving?
Over the line! This isn't nam, there are rules.
-Walter
he stepped over dha line majorr
What was your full throw mark? It should be over 90m with that stand considering you had reasonable technique.
75 Yards? I have that beat with a football. YES I HAVE VIDEO! Of me at the old Texas stadium. Standing @ own 37 and put it through uprights! @ 19 seconds in. Thats 80+
Knowing your records i wouldnt doubt this is 75m
thought the line was out of bounds...wouldn't he be disqualified or the throw would be thrown out..
@Roald62 SOME SERIOUS ARM SPEED AND TEKNIQUE THEN THROWING A 800G FROM STANDING BUT THEN AGAIN IT WAS OVER 25 YEARS AGO ,SO YES I HAVE TO AGREE DUE TO DIFFERENT WIGHTS DIMENSIONS ETC
its Achilies throwing a spear
not to burst your bubble but when you take a step into the throw its not a standing throw
so it was him who killed me!!!
Why not? He still threw it that far.
He probably got about 1-2 dm more for crossing the line. Does that really matter?
@Roald62 show us a video where u see the javelin land, not an egg or golfball
and he stepped out of bounds so it does not count you must follow the rules
Confussed, this man took 2 steps before throwing....not standing still
i still remember when u kicked my butt back in may
