    This is an awesome video to show young javelin throwers on what you can do without the approach.
    I coached high school javelin for a couple years and all the kids focused only on their approach.
    To make my point, I would stand still and out-throw my best throwers when they used the approach.

      Theyll never reach what theyre capable of without a good approach

    I wouldn't consider that a standing throw even though that is amazingly far.. But the old javelin does fly a lot better too

    Roald, Wish my wife would have had the support when she was younger (15yrs old) She could throw javelin from a stand still also 75mtr. She just couldn't mange the run up.She regrets not persuing athletics, back then she was pushed into the factory.

    ofc, but there isn't a particolar conditioning?
    i don't thing it s only about following a procedure.
    and..1 more question.. what's your personal best at throwing a stone?
    (i know it s weird cause they have different weight and shape)
    do the golf ball travels more than a sharp-disc shaped stone?

    Well, the guy it hit was standing at 75 meters but when he fell over it was more like 76.

    Yeah, Bradstock is crazy. For those of you who don't believe it, he went on to throw 90m later that day, so hah I believe the man. Incredible.

  • @bowtiebarn
    @bowtiebarn 15 років тому

    75m is 82 yards, you would think that the javelin would be able to go farther than a football. Because of the aerodynamics.

    so does that mean i can video myself throwing a discus, not show where it lands and simply say that it landed 475.29 meters away from me?

    @magickrizzh What will you gain in stand still, if you first bow and then stretch you will generate an upwards power. Blocking is purely so the body speed will get into the arm, but without a run up it's useless, although I wont recommend doing it in practice because you will get used to it, but if you want to throw as far as possible from a stand still I would bow it 2

    @magickrizzh Your comment doesnt make sense, from a stand still it does not matter whether your left leg (as right hand thrower) is locked or not since you don't have any speed, what would be the point of blocking?

    @Roald62 i also throw javelin, but im not going to pretend that this is impossible just because i cant come close to it while running. People, this is one of the greatest throwers in the world; its not that hard to realize that this is legit.

  • @Cheeny23
    @Cheeny23 15 років тому

    haha, thats exactly why troy is a movie... javelin isnt about how strong your arm is either, its all core muscles for the hip turn, plant, and then you use your hand to follow through (trajectory and aim). plus, we dontt know how heavy that jav is, length looks like regulation but you never know.

    See you threw 68 in the US trials last year.. great effort. Is there a veteran Javelin record?

    @santeenl the left leg has to be locked, both in standing throw and with speed. you will generate more power, and throw longer.

  • @sitarzan47

    Mr Querty before you discredit Roald - you should realise that the Finns (the art exponents of this event) acknowledge Roald's prowess in the standing throw. Instead of making such negative comments - do your research first. Roald was famous for this in the mid 80s.

    Looks like the nerd-ragers found this video, don't know how but they made it here.
    I saw you throw once at the Jenner Classic alongside Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses and Mike Conley in SJ, I always watched your videos with interest when I was learning to throw in HS because I never understood how you made that wrap work as well as you did.
    Sure wish I had access to the internet and videos like these back then, that T&F Omnibook and Robert Sings book were all we had, and both were incomprehensible.

    wow, i love all the idiots posting stupid comments about this video, i've done track and field for around 4 years now, and i can tell just by watching his form: release, speed, and plant of his left foot, that he must have thrown freakin' far, his technique was almost perfect, so regardless of him Scratching the throw, it must have still been quite a flyer.

  • @RipIPDime
    @RipIPDime 13 років тому

    From what I saw I could tell that it was a great throw, but frankly 75m is a little hard to believe, and it doesn't help that you didn't even bother to have the person filming the throw go a verify the distance. If it was 75m then great job, but I have my doubts (understandably).
