    The Holmes and Watson in this series are such a couple of pleasant fellows that the program has a relaxing, almost soporific effect.

      As is the opening scenes of them strolling together on the sidewalk onto the cobblestone street! It's a heart-warming bit for the credits! And too early for automobiles! Horses farts are part of what the fare is! Peace

    Holmes and Watson are so likeable in this series, it's so easy to get hooked.
    Ronald Howard is charming, boyish, easygoing, while Marion H. Crawford portrays Watson as comically bumbling, but also capable, and Inspector Lestrade is a likeable buffoon.

    In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment.As a lifelong fan of "SHERLOCK HOLMES" having even visited the "Sherlock Holmes" museum at Baker Street in London it's a pleasure watching the films made in 1955.. Something different watching this film in original black & white as also getting a peep into 1950's shipping lifestyle.Excellent film as are all Arthur Conan Doyle novels made into films. As a "Marine Engineer" seafarer of the 1980's-2006 generation myself could identify with this film although the Boa constrictor was a surprise as the assassin. That's typical Sherlock Holmes mystery that has endured through different generations and changes in human technology. Ahoy !

      And btw what even happened? Did Holmes hit his little noggin or something?

      The snake wrapped around Sherlock's neck, that's why he called Watson.

    • @johanne577
      @johanne577 Рік тому

      not shown, but Watson presumably carried SH with boa around his neck, and threw them into the water, to make boa release its hold on Sherlock’s neck.

    A boa constrictor can't kill a human being who is mobile. The victim needs to be immobile before the snake can coil around it. A cobra would have been deadlier.

      They should've at least shown a bigger snake. Anaconda, perhaps.

    how funny, dentist Gomes doesn't know his own name and also calls himself Gomez like the others do, he uses spanish words and finalised with an italian expression. for 1955 one would expect a better research. then again, comparing with the portuguese characters in "family guy" that supposedly come from continental Portugal and speak portuguese with a brazilian accent, it was good enough. lol

      I think they had a hard time finding a real Brazilian / Portuguese actor, and did the best they could with what they had :)

    Funny how Scotland Yard is portrayed as the elite police force in these old Sherlock Holmes movies, but the roles they actually play are clueless buffoons.

      I do not agree with you at all, because this series is the very best of all of the series ever produced, and they are all very enjoyable, especially because there is no foul language whatsoever, and thus small children can 😊 enjoy all of them 😊, and SHERLOCK HOLMES and DR JOHN WATSON, along with the inspector LESTRADE , who always wants and needs the assistance of HOLMES and WATSON try their very best to apprehend the criminals 😊
