Holmes and Watson are so likeable in this series, it's so easy to get hooked. Ronald Howard is charming, boyish, easygoing, while Marion H. Crawford portrays Watson as comically bumbling, but also capable, and Inspector Lestrade is a likeable buffoon.

In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment.As a lifelong fan of "SHERLOCK HOLMES" having even visited the "Sherlock Holmes" museum at Baker Street in London it's a pleasure watching the films made in 1955.. Something different watching this film in original black & white as also getting a peep into 1950's shipping lifestyle.Excellent film as are all Arthur Conan Doyle novels made into films. As a "Marine Engineer" seafarer of the 1980's-2006 generation myself could identify with this film although the Boa constrictor was a surprise as the assassin. That's typical Sherlock Holmes mystery that has endured through different generations and changes in human technology. Ahoy !

Until Brett’s version of Holmes, this was the best one. It stands up well, but it’s a humorous take on Holmes. Brett plays it straight in faithful adaptations of ACD’s stories (“the canon). Both are excellent in different ways, imo. :)

The attention to English period detail hold up well enough until it gets to the bar scenes. It did the same in the Rathbone films. The glasses are just not right.

how funny, dentist Gomes doesn't know his own name and also calls himself Gomez like the others do, he uses spanish words and finalised with an italian expression. for 1955 one would expect a better research. then again, comparing with the portuguese characters in "family guy" that supposedly come from continental Portugal and speak portuguese with a brazilian accent, it was good enough. lol
Funny how Scotland Yard is portrayed as the elite police force in these old Sherlock Holmes movies, but the roles they actually play are clueless buffoons.
I do not agree with you at all, because this series is the very best of all of the series ever produced, and they are all very enjoyable, especially because there is no foul language whatsoever, and thus small children can 😊 enjoy all of them 😊, and SHERLOCK HOLMES and DR JOHN WATSON, along with the inspector LESTRADE , who always wants and needs the assistance of HOLMES and WATSON try their very best to apprehend the criminals 😊

how funny, dentist Gomes doesn't know his own name and also calls himself Gomez like the others do, he uses spanish words and finalised with an italian expression. for 1955 one would expect a better research. then again, comparing with the portuguese characters in "family guy" that supposedly come from continental Portugal and speak portuguese with a brazilian accent, it was good enough. lol
I think they had a hard time finding a real Brazilian / Portuguese actor, and did the best they could with what they had :)

I do not agree with you at all, because this series is the very best of all of the series ever produced, and they are all very enjoyable, especially because there is no foul language whatsoever, and thus small children can 😊 enjoy all of them 😊, and SHERLOCK HOLMES and DR JOHN WATSON, along with the inspector LESTRADE , who always wants and needs the assistance of HOLMES and WATSON try their very best to apprehend the criminals 😊
