  • The Partnachklamm is no longer an insider tip. Every year more than 300,000 people visit the gorge, which was opened to tourists in 1912 and declared a natural monument. With a length of 699 meters and a depth of around 80 meters, the Partnachklamm is certainly one of the highlights for every visitor to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is ideal for a short trip or as a starting point for further tours in the Wetterstein Mountains. When planning your tour, it is important to note that you cannot drive directly to the entrance to the Partnach Gorge by car. You should allow around 20 minutes for the walk from the parking lot at the ski stadium to the gorge. Depending on the season and weather, horse-drawn carriages may also be available behind the ski stadium. With these you can go to the Partnachklam in a very comfortable and rustic Way.
By the way, the Partnachklamm is also open in winter. While most gorges, such as the Höllentalklamm in Grainau, are closed in the cold season, you can experience a unique natural spectacle in the Partnachklamm thanks to secured paths and tunnels. Meter-long icicles rise from the steep rock faces, which grow together to form huge ice walls up to 30 meters high. Crystal-clear and centimeter-thick layers of ice ooze out of the rock as if by magic and just a few meters from your feet, the icy and seemingly evergreen Partnach dances between ice-covered boulders and abstract ice sculptures.
In winter, visitors should pay particular attention to wearing thick clothing, as a warm ray of sunshine rarely finds its way down into this icy landscape. The paths in the Partnachklamm are easy to walk on even in winter with sure-footed footwear. So ideal conditions to be captivated by the unique scenery and to take some great impressions of the Partnach Gorge home with you.
