This show deserved more emmys and nominations then it got. So very underrated...the performances by George Macready as the staunch Martin Peyton are just priceless...the soaps today cant even come close.....top notch acting from all the cast.
Agree he was never properly awarded in his lifetime for great works.His son said it was because he didn't have a great agent.I think the Academys just failed him for some stupid reason-he was terrific in My Name Is Julia Ross (the top performance in the film),Gilda,Knock On Any Door he blew everyone off the screen,Paths Of Glory.Think there was a prejudice against him.Best villain in a Tarzan movie,too!
@@ellenfoley4996 Was George Macready as in rough shape as he appeared to be as Martin Peyton? Or was it all just acting. George was only 65 when he joined the series, but he seemed far older! He's brilliant as Mr. Peyton, I think..
Wish I could purchase the whole enchilada of Peyton Place! I'm 77 years old and it brings back so many memories. The storylines for such a demanding schedule didn't suffer any drop in quality. I remember there were sequel movies or perhaps other way around. I'm going to watch it all over again. What was Dr Rodney married Rachel soon after this, baby followed in September, she quit to raise her child, what a concept!!
Oh yes. He was absolutely believable as that character. I've seen soooo many actors ham it up when they are portraying a drunk. He was brilliant! He deserved an Emmy.

After these last couple of episodes I just realized that new BROWN LONG SLEEVE WOOLEN outfit RACHEL'S wearing is the same type of outfit I owned during that same time period (late 60's)..only thing mine was light heather-gray and it was ONE-PIECE, not a TWO-PIECE!
the only people nominated for an Emmy award were Barbara Parkins as Betty for lead actress and Ruth Warrick as Hannah and Lee Grant as Stella as supporting actress. Lee is the only one to gave won the emmy but all three should have won.
This is like a whole new series, once again firing on all cylinders. I'm SO glad that long, dragged-out, seemingly endless courtroom stuff FINALLY ended! Ms. Taylor-Young superb in this episode.
Lee is such a character showing his distrust of Sandy, and Sandy is a hoot showing how she feels jealousy over Rod's "friendship" with Rachel. The two of them have such a dysfunctional marriage, but I think if Sandy gave Lee more of a chance they might be able to make it. I wonder if Sandy truly thinks Lee did kill Ann though.
You all probably know this, but Lana Wood (Sandy) married Steven Oliver (Lee) for about 6 weeks while they were making this show. He was the 3rd of her six husbands. She had two annulments (Including Steven Oliver) and 4 divorces. Ryan O'Neal married Leigh Taylor Young (Rachel), and they were married 7 years. She was his second wife, and after that he and Farrah Fawcett were together for two different periods of time. After Ryan and Leigh divorced, she married three more times, and this last marriage seems happy.
Lee was working as a mechanic until the fight with Rodney. He'll get another job soon. He's certainly not afraid of work. He was on Leslie's doorstep the next day asking for a job at the mill. Sandy stays around because she wants Rodney.
They have the best actors and actresses back at this time period.

I was moved at first when Martin asked for Steven but the the cat and mouse game started again
