For the poor common men, try this:
    $40 bike or board helmet
    Paint it.
$100 headlamp. Velcro the strap to helmet. Put dark sock tube over lamp to prevent reflection when not in use.
    $600 for decent thermal handheld.
Mount to rifle or carry in pouch.
You are 75% the way there at 1/8 the price.

      @ManInTheWoods76 Місяць тому +7

@@CMG78absolutely. One observation I've made in my studies and training is this. The separation between professionals and laymen is fixed and concrete. The pro actually arrives at proficiency. The layman lacks the appreciable proficiency but the NEED for it still exists at some level. The human brain tends to fill the perceived gap with fantasy. But the practical solution is to recognize the laziness of fantasy and apply the work (a reasonable amount of work) that is required to arrive at REASONABLE proficiency. Most of us miss that mark due to the inherent ignorance, laziness and resultant fantasy.
We would do well to understand the "four levels of competence" and admit to ourselves the truth... To achieve capability requires actual work (as you say!)

Those extra rifles you built to arm the neighbors (they should buy their own), The other hobbies you invested in and quit after a month, Sell that stuff and invest it here. Don't go for a CCD base system, they're not appropriate for aiming as all have a few 10s of millisecond delay. You need an image intensifier tube based system, yes they're more expensive.

Thermal has its purpose but it’s hard to tell who’s who under thermal. A lot easier to PID (positively identify) under NV. Obviously if you can afford it, get both. But if I had to pick one it would be NV all day until thermal tech improves. Also you’ll get less headaches looking through NV because it’s just glass. With thermal you’re looking at a screen.

NODs go in the bag. Bag goes inside the helmet. Helmet goes into the carrier pocket.
Using velcro for the lanyard for your NODs makes too much noise if you have to remove them in a non-permissive environment.
Mount the IR flashlight to the M-Lok slot on the right side of the helmet.
Instead of running both tubes as IR, try running a thermal on your non-dominant eye.

Instead of a counter weight I recommend getting a battery pack for you nods and velcro it on the back, from my job I can tell you any sort of weight on your head should work for you, especially during extended ops. Many of us will have old “tactical” flashlights, pistol lights and even rifle lights. As I upgrade I start shifting the lights to other uses. I put mounts on the side of things(like end tables) so I can mount the old lights in case of power outages. One mount on the side of the cabinets next to toilets. Even one old rifle light with a pressure pad in the closet. I also use an old pistol one for my helmet or vest. Since you are not wanting that high of output. I made a red filter cap for it too.

You can also pre program them for your area and watch from the house beyond just having cameras. We started doing it for us to see the animals moving around at night then it clicked 😂😂. There are guys who work with the PDs and Sheriff’s Office and are on call. They use a small enclosed trailer with a nice setup and pole cameras at opposite corners of where they set up. So something I’ve been thinking about and wrestling with… do you invest thousands of dollars on night vision for yourself provided nobody else on your team has nvgs, or is it a more or less useless piece of gear in a team environment if nobody else has the capability. It seems to me that it would end up being a waste of money outside of use on a farm or hunting in such a situation, but maybe I’m just justifying not buying it. Any thoughts?

Cody is not doing these product and equipment videos to help anybody but himself. He frequently flaunts having 400 jeans, a new log house, a new wig ( how will that work out in the struggle ahead? ), high dollar tactical gear, starlink, etc. Cody, how does any of this help anyone ? You recently made a trip from the pacific northwest to Tennessee/North Carolina to cut up trees. Certainly, the people need help, but i submit they didn't need you cutting trees, but the substantial amount you spent traveling would have been used better by local volunteers. Seems to me it was just an opportunity to promote yourself.

The "D" Rings are called split rings in fishing gear. The even have split Ring pliers so you won't stick yourself or send your 'D' flying.

I watched your first video when you just started with night vision, we learned and grew our knowledge together, night vision certainly is a rabbit hole as we find ourselves constantly upgrading all the equipment. You say you’re not an expert, but you are an expert as you move forward and try new things.
