Ab Toh Badhna Hai - Custard Apple Value Chain

On the outskirts of Udaipur, women of Gharasiya tribe, traditionally plucked and sold custard apples grown in the local forest. They were struggling with low and dwindling income. However, they now have a reason to celebrate this international rural women’s day. ICICI Foundation provided training on scientific methods of planting, plant maintenance, plucking, sorting, grading. The Foundation also supported setting up of a processing centre for custard apple pulp at the location. These women assimilated this knowledge and opportunity with zest and improved their income by 44%. We salute such women - daughters, sisters, mothers, and grandmothers - who support the family, agricultural economy, and the nation.
