That statement talent is talent is so true, you can work hard but some people are naturally levels above without even trying and sometimes we must be humble and realise that 😂
Really good dig up here! Do t get bogged down with the “Gulf” they are pros, we are casuals. Remember comparison is the thief of joy Also big up TBattie as always
looking sharp.... that sportful stuff looks really good, and you dont see much of it on other youtube channels at all...... i feel your pain , great effort sir ( doffs cap ).......looking sharp and going fast......you cant ask for much more.....
A few years ago I noticed on Strava that I had beaten WT Pro Jack Haig on a segment that is part of my commute home (northern NSW Australia). Short, steep climb (30ish seconds). I was about 50th on the leaderboard, had breathed through every orifice, tasted blood... Jack Haig probably rode up eating a sandwich, chatting to a friend, glass cranking…
Always nice to have something to measure your own efforts against - even though we are "also rans" it's still a bit of fun. I think doing it in mid winter probably isn't the best idea because of the cold and air density too. Good try though.
I know it was all in fun but if Harry actually tried for segment he'd smash it. I've beaten a local champ on a few segments where I live but I know he just cannot have been trying as otherwise I'd be slaughtered. It would be good if you could film Harry going for it one day though, be a good comparison. Totally agree on the pain thing, nothing worse than anticipation of a gruelling effort! Good video as ever. Oh and next time take Paris along as her comments always welcome 😃
Biggest difference is Harry had a rim brake bike. He won gold over feather despite having a lower wpk. Feather was also on some new unproven bike vs Harry's championship proven bike. With that kind of power output stiffness matter allot.
Nonetheless Max, your riding is well stronger than when you first started this. Your 400+W for well over 2 mins is not to be sniffed at. These climbers are a different bunch anyway, and Harry on the short climbs is a monster for sure. Even on the longer climbs these guys can hold 6-7 W/kg for up to nearly 4O mins. Nice vid though, and kudos for getting out at all !
Due to Christmas and all that, I had to ask Harry to be part of it, then I shot it on the hope that he’d help, then he sent the vid and then I edited it. 👊🏻

To be fair 42 v 26 isn't a good trade either.

Also big up TBattie as always
There was very little ‘joy’ at the top of this!!! Haha nah it was fun, I’m sure I’ll be better in Spring and it’s always a laugh finding out
@ yeah some nice warm, dry roads will 100% help and if not at least it’s warm and dry lol
Yesterday I seen one of your old videos back 7 years ago doing cycling strength exercises. Good video.
Max. More of these please We’re out in Amersham and know all of these local climbs. Keep it rolling. HNY.
Quarry Wood Road is definitely one of my favourites.
Great effort and fun video. Happy New Year Max. :)
Cheers man, Happy New Year
@RyanCondon get a vid up my guy I’m running out of good cycling content 😅 I’m caught uo with all my faves now

Thank you kindly- time to get to work with the FTP
Once it warms up you’ll nail it. I always test climbs like this in the winter and it never works out how I want.
Will be back in the summer for sure

Great effort Max , especially early Jan 👏.👏We can only do what we can do mate . Missed your great content over the Christmas period 👍
Thanks man, appreciate the support. Happy New Years to you
The air is denser in winter, that won't help.
My perfect excuse- must have been a super dense air day 😊
wait for a really windy day(tailwind) and go for it

Can tell a a man is from London, when he stashes kit under leaves in the middle of nowhere 😂 Great effort! Happy New Year!
Ha I doubt anyone who lives in thw big houses around there needs a purple bidon

We’re going to try and link up for some videos for sure.
Will have to negotiate a good head start though to give me half a chance
@@thewattlife Excellent, look forward to watching.
Paris is starting a UA-cam this year 👀

I think he did this climb on a disc brake bike as a fun ride when he set his time up it. lol. Just different gravy, but a fun challenge
Such a cold day to be doing that yesterday LOL. You wait til summer, better air and warmer muscles you’ll be much quicker
That’s the plan, especially after a Winter/Spring of trying to chase you duxe
Kudos for the content presentation and humour. V entertaining. M
Thank you man
Well done.
Thank you 🙏🏻

Thanks man, was a fun afternoon and nice to get out before the snow came ❄️
Still putting out good power. A lot better than average :)
Pretty happy with the power, and hoping it’s going to go up in the next 4 weeks
Would be great to know what sort of gear you wear in these cold temps
I had a lot of layers on but also this was a short ride. I hate cold feet so shoes, toe covers and then velotoez
Bosh 💥
Cheers for the help dude
Well done Max🦾🔥🦿
I notice I go faster with fully loaded gravel bike 😂 then my road 🤷🏻♂️nonsense
Ha ihavent been able to get into the gravel vibe
@ you should join “the dark side” 😄
Big up Max, Nathan T and anyone fitness testing in 2025 ❤
Happy New Year 🥳
Aero bike is quicker uphill? If you feel unfit at 42, wait until you get to 52
No I don’t think it’s faster- I think this time my entry was slower so I worked harder on the first half and suffered massively on the second half
Time of year is really important, can't push that hard in the cold.
He's like 25 ffs.
And your mental state on the day, clear mind =power.
Next time- in the Spring. I’ll be back stronger
👍💪🍻
Thanks man
Do you have SPORTFUL sponsorship?
No, they have however sent me these clothes in the past, so I tend to wear Sportful more than most but nothing official 😊
@@thewattlifekit looks great
He is 25yo and You have 42yo and your have only 13sec difference!! It's Fucking Good!!
Ask for advice and then don't take it 🤦♂ shouldn't be anywhere near a 1 min best during a climb that takes 3 mins sir 😆
