As a 6ft person, when i sat on a ML it felt significantly better than a L, though i will have to order a 120mm(+6mm for RED E1 Levers luckily) for the stem to get the same fit as a 110mm on the previous madone in a 58cm. This is with me nearly maxing the long post seat height. Going the same build as trey 👍 looks awesome!
Tall person with a tall saddle height (84cm) here haha. The look of the Madone felt weird at first but now I totally dig it. I’m 6-4 and ride a XL TCR now. I guess XL should fit perfectly. Ok heading to the P1 website now. Thanks!
Something else about this bike, you have toe-wheel overhang. So when at 3pm and 9pm position and your slow turning you will bump your toes. Short wheelbase aka short top tube does this.
The sizing of this bike, while questionable for most, sounds perfect for me. I'm maxed out on the 58cm gen 7 Madone seatpost, so I have this weird high stack saddle and 175mm cranks. I could finally have a normal setup with this large. I am also 5'11, lol.
The Bontrager 62 are decent. I have them for training rides in my new Trek Speed Concept. Raceday I switch over to an 80mm front and full rear disc. Road bike wise, I don’t go above 50mm, ever. No reason to IMO.
54 Emonda with a 400mm bar 100mm rsl combo ,,,, what would you recommend for the 54 gen8 stem length , I’m thinking P1 to a 100mm stem , suggestions please
normally a 110 but I think I’d have to go to a 120 on this bike. What makes me nervous is it has a longer chain stay than my TCR but a shorter top tube/reach which makes me think I might get some toe overlap on the large. Looking at the XL though, the wheelbase is the same as my L TCR but the stand over is so high I don’t think I could ride it.
It’s the exact same issue I’d have trying to ride the large. There’s no way I could stand over it. And if Trey needed the short seatpost it scares me that I wouldn’t be able to get it low enough on the large. The M/L would fit me but with a 120 or 130 stem.
Were the wheels setup up Tubeless during the weighing of the Madone and did they have sealant in them (if so, how much roughly?) or just pumped up with air?
In the future, of you're building a Trek from a P1 box, slide the box off the base, then you can remove the cardboard tubing and free the bike up easier.
Doesn't trek do a 30 day return policy, and if you buy through a dealership and the size isn't right the dealer should be able to swap out the part without charging more. That is what my bike shop does at least.
I know we don’t take returns on any bike unless it’s a special circumstance. I’m also unsure if trek takes returns on project one bikes. But your correct otherwise
I’m looking at the project one builds and there aren’t options to change the handlebars or seatpost. Is that something that can only be done by trek dealers?
Go to a shop, they'll walk you through it. Should be able to customize it to what you want/need. The component sizes should be under the sizing portion of the P1 build if you're doing it at home.
Merging the Madone and Emonda is about one thing only- cost saving for Trek. Same regards reducing range of sizes from 8 to 6. Essentially they've gone from 16 frame sizes to 6 across the 2 bikes. To suggest this will suit more riders is misleading and false.
Want one of these so bad. My wallet wants the $3500 105 mechanical sl 5 and just buy some quality chinese wheels but my eyes want the $6500 black and purple sl 7
Shop - www.thebicyclestation.com/
when is the madone gen 8 review compared to SL8, been waiting for two months..
Need a Gen 7 vs Gen 8 comparison like you did Madone vs Tarmac
Probably test both bikes with aero bottle

Yea it’s honestly the Achilles heel of the bike. We found it to be an unacceptable amount of toe over lap unfortunately

TREK name is smaller on black frame ! WHY IS THAT?
The M is like a 52/54 with short stem, short post and 170mm cranks.

Bike looks very nice. Out of curiosity what is Trey's saddle height? I'm also 5'11 and now thinking should I be on a M/L or a L
How is it compare to the New Madone with Enve Melee? interest on both and decide which to get.
@Trey: Can you please describe your driving impressions? is the gen 8 really as fast as the gen 7? i can't imagine....
I’m 6’1” and looking at the numbers I think they need a size between the L and XL.
Just curious what stem length you’d have to run on either bike

I put a lot of sealant in

Gotta assert your dominance over the box
Huh? 5:25 you say "100" but the bar literally says "120". What am I missing?
We swapped it. There’s two bars
Just bought mine today ! Does the bike come with the computer mount !?
Yes it does. The best part of the bike.

100%. You can pick every fit part even crank length.

Is that a 350mm post on the Melee?
Why wouldn’t you take a hacksaw to the longer seatpost rather than spending $300 for a shorter one?
That would be to easy and logical. The post wedge sits in the post and you can’t cut it at all.
Nice bike!
MF DOOM mentioned!!!!!!!
Does the black SLR frameset on Treks site look like this?
This is exactly that color
sizing seems crazy i’m 6ft and ride a 58 emonda with a 130 stem and honestly wanted to size down to a 56 but now there’s no chance
dats niiiiiice

Melee v Madone vid please
5:19 it says 120mm?? lol
So the SLR 9 is under 16. The SLR 7 is claimed to be little over 16 and yet weighs about 17.3??
We think it depends on what paint job you get
Wow Trey that’s a nice bicycle
Agreed- geometry is wonky. 56.3 TT and a 100 stem on a size large- WTF
Should have weighed it with the bottles

The purple one is so cool. We sold one today. It’s got this amazing green in it also
@@bicyclestation your words are drowning out the voice of my wallet
The sizing is too weird for me.
I still can’t wrap my head around it. I know I could make it work but it’s a lot of brain power
i was going to buy a new trek but then they came out with this crap. its slower and still heavy, what a shame.
You should get another one now that it’s Madone 16 so that it becomes Madone 24. Like 2024, get it? 😂
Ugly. Previous gen madone was better looking
Black is atrocious color way for this bike
Honestly I couldn't see the complete video because of the excessive camera movement. Please consider next time.
