What a charming person and great singer and actor, the way he acted a young Siegfried in Ring of Nibelung was amazing. So charismatic and sincere gentleman.
I fell in love with Jay from the moment he stepped on the Met stage and delivered his Siegfried. Watching interviews of him, he has to be one me the most down to earth, cool, honest singers out there. I wish I could see and hear him more on the big stages all over the world! He deserves it!! I'd love to meet him one day and chat along. Seems like a great guy. May his path flourish with endless blessings!! :)
James gave me no more and no less than all Wagner with his Siegfried. Now I prefer to listen to other productions, but it was the very first one from the Met Opera free streams a year ago that changed my life. Thanks James! Last but not least, it was you who, with your charisma, struck me down on the spot and revived me as a Wagnerian.
I won't pretend to be an opera "expert" to be able to focus on the nuances between what makes a good singer and a great opera singer. But I thoroughly enjoyed watching Jay Hunter Morris last night when the Met streamed Wagner's Siegfried (the Metropolitan Opera's 2011-12 series of Wagner's Ring Cycle - Siegfried 2011 production). In fact, besides being a good singer, Jay Hunter Morris comes across as a nice, down to earth person, I would enjoy meeting him in person someday and, while shaking his hand, congratulate him on a job well done singing the role of Siegfried.
You know, I don't think we are supposed to know the "nuances between what makes a good singer and a great opera singer." I just don't. I think we are supposed to be moved by what the singer does and sings, period. And I was just as moved as you were. He did a fantastic job in the role, on short notice, and rolling with the punches.
Wow, this guy is infectious! If he brigs the same passion and love to his Siegfried at next year's Budapest Wagner Days, it's gonna rock! I'm usually dissatisfied with anyone but Christian Franz in the role, but I'm getting convinced here that Jay can make it! Wish him all the best! :)

This interview makes me love his already-wonderful Siegfried all the more!
He's a wonderful guy! Great interview. Love his voice.

I don't think you'll be disappointed! He's naturally talented, committed to his craft, and brings his great personality and to his work.

It's strange to hear "Siegfried" speak with an american southern accent.
Though if one thinks about his character, it makes sense that he would have a country accent. He is a country/forest boy after all.

Why do today’s singers think it is charming to admit they never knew anything about opera?
