  • We had a lucky Explore unlike most others, if you do think about going here my advice would be dont!! You are likely to bump into the crazy guy walking around with a Baseball Batt!!
Bit of History... Bulstrode is a large park and mansion to the southwest of the Buckinghamshire town centre of Gerrard's Cross in the English Home Counties. The estate, that spreads across Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards Cross and Fulmer, predates the Norman conquest and the name may originate from the Anglo-Saxon words burh (marsh) and stród meaning (fort). [1]
Recently also used as the film set for Johnny English!!

Lived there from '85 to '92 with my parents during its period as a missionary headquarters. Also went up the bell tower as a kid, but unlike you, I climbed up the outside. When you explored the tunnel in the lawn bank which opens out into a large room on the left, if you had shone your light at the base of the left wall as you entered the room, you would have noticed another, smaller tunnel doubling back and leading away from the building down the hill. This was a real squeeze to get down even for a 13 year old me - more like pot-holing - which eventually led to a small exit point in the potato field at the bottom of the lawn. That was 35 years ago. It may have been bricked up since then.

...I was a working there as a volunteer (and living there) 20 years ago, seeing this brings back lovely memories. Cleaned many of those corridors and rooms (lots of cleaning gone to waste now ;-). Sad to see the state of the place. I do hope it will be restored to its former glory and that people will live in it again, I remember it as a really lively and warm place!

Such a shame that vandals feel the need to destroy such beautiful places. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to live in a place like that, I would never have known who was living with me 😂. Loved the video, thanks.

I remember spending the summer of 1981 here doing mission work with TMI when it was the Worldwide Evangelization Crusade headquarters. The rose gardens were beautiful. Best summer of my life; I was 16. Met some local people, went to Windsor and London. I remember playing on the big lawn the day Charles and Diana got married. We got the day off. If anybody who remembers that summer sees this, I would like to get in touch. Kenny, Brian, Sonya, Lucy, Robin, Patty, . . .. .33 of us as I remember.

I too have lots of fond memories of this place. Visited it off and on since 1978. The botanical gardens were refreshing, especially after a long stint in the Arabian deserts. I have many fond memories... wish it was still open to visitors. The tower was a great place to hang out with youth, and many of the rooms hold fond memories of conferences, meetings, and meals in the dining hall with people from all around the world. Too bad the upkeep costs were too much for WEC to continue there. At least they got a good price for it.

I lived there over 35 years ago as a language student and have great memories of that time. Back then the mansion belonged to a Christian Organization. So very sad to see it abandoned...hopefully whoever bought it will restore it to its former glory!

Thanks guys, really interesting to see. Like quite a few of the commenters, I lived and worked at the house, though not for long. It's a listed building and we can only hope that the new owners will make it weatherproof and secure, and plan a sympathetic restoration.

My parents are Howard and Gill Sayers and I lived here with my sister Julie and brother Tim in the 80's.Its such a shame to see the beautiful house in this poor state and I know it's got a lot worse and the builders have stripped out a load of the stunning features that were there.Hope it sells again and someone with a load of money and vision can bring the house back to life again.Shame to see the mindless vandalism going on too Thankyou for sharing and bringing back so many memories.Pauline x

I’m sure I’m not your only hard of hearing viewer. This super mansion was beautiful, but keeping up with your narration would have made it even better. God bless you and your team, and all of you stay safe. Posting from South Carolina.

We lived there in what was the Duke and Dutchess bedroom made into a flat. Our shower was in a round room on one of the corners of the building with tall narrow windows and interior shutters on the second floor. We were there for 4 years with two of our boys being born in one of the bedrooms in a birthing pool. We served WEC by doing maintenence and remodeling. 1994-1998.

I didn't enjoy this video but it had hUGE potential. You all should have gone to those kids BEFORE they started smashing windows. They probably had spray paint on them too. If people like you can teach these kids there is so much harm in what they are doing perhaps they would stop. The do not have an appreciation of history and the value of keeping these monuments of time held together for as long as possible. It wouldn't have to get ugly. You could simply teach them and ask them too respect the property of other people and perhaps tell and teach them about urban and that discussion could turn their direction from destruction to building on memories rather than destroying them.
