Chels has it right. Till was in Olympic training for the East German Swimming team as a teenager. A very brutal programme with lasting physical and mental effects.

Till was in a sports school when he was in his early teens. The GDR did horrific things to their athletes.
Till has spoken in interviews about harsh trainers always pushing him day and night, drug cocktails being forced on him that the trainers called "vitamins", therapy involving electric shocks that caused him enough pain to make him sick, therapy involving blood irradiation...
It's honestly a miracle the man only came out of it with only psychological scarring and a heart murmur.
It is cruel what Trainers did than in East Germany. 😱 And some of that is probably common in many countries 😞

Yes, former training colleagues say they don't understand that he can do that. They suffer immensely from the consequences. Bandmates also say that he has a great need for sleep
Till Lindemann is a genius the last two albums and live in Moscow was awesome and this new album is great too
and something really new, that fun metal style is very very nice
I honestly think this is his best solo album yet, every track has been an absolute banger..this coming from someone who loved the last album. 😂
I love it, too. I think it's better than the ones he made with his previous band.
As a big Rammstein fan, I'm not usually a fan of Till's songs, but this is a pure banger! 👊🏻Maybe this new album will change my mind.

The whole album is GREAT! I loved it. My favorite songs are Du hast kein Herz, Alles für die Kinder and Schweiss.
Agree, didn't expect that much from Till as a solo. Normally, even with R+, when they launch a new album, there's only 1 or 2 songs I like, plus a 3rd one that is good enough but this one is really good.

What I love about Till Lindemanns/Rammsteins music is that it seems like there is always room for thinking and having different perspectives about the topic/style of the song.
German speaker here. Oh trust me this is anything but a love song to sports haha. Chels has it right. The song depicts a man who pushed himself to the extreme but later in his life realizes that for all the fame and wealth that came with the success, his health wasn't worth it. As others have already pointed out, the song is also a comment on his own youth.
I like the similarities to Rammstein's "Feuer Frei" btw, even the name is intentionally similar. 😀And that choir that starts later in the song is SO damn great! Love that song! 🤘
Till sings that no wealth came with it. 😞 Only few sportlers become wealthy. And their health is damaged anyway 🤗
@@brigittegranier3468 Yeah you're right, i missed that part when i listened to the song the first few times, he sings about how he didn't even become that wealthy. "Wie die Arbeit nicht der Lohn" / "Das Gold vom Siegerpodest, sich nicht in Barren gießen lässt" , and all that. 😞
The song and lyrics work like sports work. In the beginning everything was great, great fitness, great adrenaline, great successes, great experience. But in the end, the guts punsh comes. You have done all this at the expense of your health and become a medical care case.
So the song ,uplifting only works positive at the beginning and towards the end comes the negative.
Till was an athlete. So he's speaking from experience. And as he said in the song, as a musician you have more of everything in life. Music is timeless.
Till Solo isn't normally my thing, but here it's a lot of fun. Great pace and good vibe. As an active beer athlete, this goes on the playlist.

8:33 " sport frei" Is an expression from the GDR (East Germany), for example the teacher said SPORT and the students then answered with FREI
After 1945, the greeting was reintroduced in the German Democratic Republic (GDR).
"Sport frei" is an athlete's greeting from the workers' sports movement.
With this greeting, school sports lessons and all forms of (team) training began in the GDR, as well as competitions in various sports.

I think because he experienced this situation when he was young and knows how difficult it was on him and others, that he is also honoring those who can deal with it now too. Doing all this work and being pushed around for what in the end? Physical problems when you are older etc. But some people still go through it anyhow in spite of all that.

The clip is gorgeous, it contains the most important thing - words about sports... And the music for them is perfect... Whether you like it or not, this is how it is in sports, which is what is sung in the video... Sports have always been like this - very hard, give yourself to it to the end, and I can say to all the athletes - you are just great... It’s not fucking easy

The album is stabbing sweet sick. Best non Rammstein work. Both instrumentaly and voice versatility.
Couple of interesting points about the actual music video for me are that Till recreates the torch lighting scene from the "Stripped" video (in the same stadium unless I'm mistaken). Also part of that stadium was used as the backdrop for the "Live Aus Berlin" album cover.
Till running while on fire reminded me of the muisic video "No Man" by Tadpole.
I think he admires the sprtsmen, but despises the way they were/are treated in order to achieve maximum potential and than left in the dust.

by the way for ignorants till was representing DDR eastern germany 1980 moscow s games (In 1978, Lindemann participated in the European Junior Swimming Championships in Florence, finishing 11th in the 1500 m freestyle and 7th in the 400 m freestyle, swimming a time of 4'17"58; he was shortlisted to go to the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, but left the sport due to an injury.)

Gotta agree with Chels, I really feel like this is not admiration but criticism for the lack of better word. In general I often feel like Rammstein & Till lyrics have an undertone of 'sarcasm' and criticism.

Nah the weights aren't real. That'd be a weight of 495lb and whilst Till is a bloody strong dude, there's not a chance in hell he is overhead pressing (did it at the end, there) that much weight at 60 years old (the world record for that movement is 542lb.)
An ode ( although not lovingly or fondly) of sorts to his days as a competitive swimmer? Must have been brutal in many different ways. Not uplifting imo.
