Hard work sorting out a top ten. More power to your elbow. I enjoyed your choices. Being perhaps a tart, I'd have Dark Side of the Moon in there. And likewise Fragile from Yes. Other contenders on my incomplete fledgling list would include a Beatles album. But which one? Abbey Road perhaps. And a Stones. Sticky Fingers. I'd also include In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson. Diversifying even more, Abraxas by Santana is in there. Or possibly their first album. But I'm obviously sashaying away from prog there. But so did you with the likes of Bob Marley and Dylan. So, I could include The Isley Brothers 3+3. Developing on my "tart" theme, I'd have to have a Led Zep album too. Can't decide which though without more thought. I note you haven't got any live albums in there. Which I can understand, they are often flawed. But if I had to, there's three I'd include: The Allman Brothers Band At the Filmore East, Slade Alive! and Deep Purple Made in Japan. But, come to think of it, if I excluded all the above, I could still make out a top ten. I get what you say about your choices being all '70s music. Is it a generational thing or is more recent music really poorer? In reality I think the '70s also produced a lot of eminently forgettable music and later decades certainly produced some excellent stuff. Just perhaps not as much. I think. Maybe.
Peter thanks for the well thought out response. Wow, I did this 8 years ago, and now with your comments and rethinking things I'd certainly make some changes. Even within my 70's faves, I would probably shuffle these around a bit. Maybe it's time for a follow up!
My 10 10. The Doors The Doors 9. Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon 8. Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers 7. Bruce Springsteen Born To Run 6. Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street 5. This is the 1st video I've seen of yours. I really didn't expect CttE to be number one. Fantastic album, just an amazing synthesis, fusing elements into something unique.
Excellent Choices and well presented. I agree that listening to your favourite albums brings back memories from the time you first heard them which can be positive or some times negative.

Absolutely! I feel it's about the significant life changing moments. The transition from junior school to senior school, those 1st years of settling into a new routine, then the defining exams & moving on to a 1st job. This is like a soundtrack to your life 👍
Great top 10 list. Love the Eagles and Hotel California is a classic album. The artwork on ELp's Brain Salad Surgery is amazing. One of my favorite album covers in my collection. Wind and Wuthuring is a great one also. Blood on the Rooftops is a timeless track. I'm a huge Genesis fan also. Wish You Were Here is a wonderful listen start to finish. I really enjoyed this video, Great job !!

Hello Jon, Just hearing the notes to Tubular Bells still gets to me. That song permanently damaged me after seeing The Exorcist on the big screen in the eighth grade. We must have grown up and started collecting around the same time. I remember getting Brain Salad Surgery around 1975 and seeing ELP in the later summer of 1977. How is the Hippodrome to see a concert? Nice to see the Floyd choice. I saw the Animals and The Wall tours. But I would have loved to have seen the Wish You Were Here tour in 75. > Very cool Aladdin Sane story. I can imagine the way anyone reacted back then seeing a huge poster of the inside jacket hanging in HMV's window. Outstanding video Jon. They were all essential albums to anyone's collection ~ Rob/Boston
Thankyou my friend and so lapse of me for taking a month to respond but this Google/UA-cam is perplexing! Well I was born in September 1959 so the 70's were my formative years. I have been watching your channels too and so enjoy them. Thanks Rob, Jon
In college, in the early seventies, my best friend and I would listen to Tubular Bells almost every other day, Peter Gabriel, and Emerson, Lake and Palmer (and lots of Beatles). I remember when Lennon's 'Mind Games' came out and we played that one quite a lot. We loved Peter Gabriel's 'Security' so much, my friend got the version of Peter singing the whole album in German! Sounded better in the German language. Now that one might be hard to find these days!
Glad you mentioned John Martyn! Glorious Fool (my fave) and Solid Air are great ones of his, too. I'm also a big Nick Lowe fan after seeing him live in a pub just playing his acoustic guitar and singing. He was on tour with Ron Sexsmith (surprisingly very moving, the song Snow Angel, for example) playing small venues and pubs with just voice and acoustic guitar only. Very memorable concert. Nick Lowe, of course, is a great songwriter and performer. Yeah, and Yes - Close To The Edge, right on, sounds wonderful on vinyl. Of course, in my book, every Beatles album is a knockout, genius.

Thanks Jon, good to see what you like. You've inspired me to give some of them a listen again! I remember listening to Aladdin Sane with you when you first got it. My Top 10 would of course be different, but what I like about yours is it has inspired me, so thanks!
Just off the top of my head - mainly interns of how much I play them: Aqualung, Dark side of the moon, Led Zep 4, Physical Graffiti, Fragile, Next (Sensational Alex Harvey Band), Abbey Road, Quadrophenia, Tommy, Sandinista.
MAJOR OMISSIONS... 1) Santana Abraxis 2) Dire Straits Making Movies 3) Squeeze Argybargy 4) INXS Kick 5) Duran Duran Rio 6) Frankie Goes to Hollywood Welcome to the Pleasuredome 7) Sting Nothing Like the Sun 8) U 2 Joshua Tree 9) Boston First Album 10) Led Zeppelin IV
Honorable Mentions: Surrealistic Pillow - Jefferson Airplane Kanye West - College Dropout The Doors - The Doors Axis Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix Abbey Road - The Beatles Thriller - Micheal Jackson 10) Cold Fact - Rodriguez 9) Illmatic - Nas 8) Led Zeppelin - IV 7) Igor - Tyler The Creator 6) 2 - Mac Demarco 5) To Pimp a Butterfly- Kendrick Lamar 4) Are you experienced - Jimi Hendrix 3) The queen is dead - The Smiths 2) Blonde - Frank Ocean 1) Sgt Pepper - The Beatles
Blood on the Tracks is truly amazing, but I equally rate Blonde on Blonde. I don't know if I can truly pick my top 10 albums. I'd end up forgetting an artist and be struck down with eternal guilt. I doubt I'll be able to name my top 10 meals. 🤔
Excellent post, Jon! Was waiting to see where Bowie would fall into place - great choice. Mike Garson is such a phenomenal player - his style is so immediately recognizable. Really enjoyed his playing on the Outside album as well. Very well done!
Ha, sorry it's taken so long to respond Bret - yep you can always expect a Bowie up there! Funny as when I first heard garson I thought it was off key - then I got it - I was only young! His playing on David "Live" is something else - amazing.
#9 Yes, it is indeed the best Bob Dylan album. Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours " is the only other album, that is addressing the topic of relationship troubles as beautiful as this Dylan record.
So profound what you said about albums, how it's more than just the music, and how sometimes we cant play albums when certain memories are attached... I havent listened to CCR's Pendulum for nearly a year. It's just too painful. I also agree with what you said about the cover art and the labels. The cover for Alice Cooper's Killer is one of the major reasons why I love it.
Nick wow can't believe I didn't respond. Yep I agree album cover art was a major thing. Reviewing my 10 here I'd probably make some changes a good 8 years on.
,,really enjoyed this! ..(Thank You Jon)... obviously a music lover who really enjoys his music... Bowie, yes... Pink Floyd, yes.... mine would include Zeppelin, PG... Japan TD (GTP) ... Nick Drake... but we're all prisoners of our own time slots..... but timeless music takes no prisoners.... if you take the time and the passion...
MrsFish7 thanks for the feedback. I would have included LZ as am a massive fan. So many others but when push comes to shove, these are the albums I always come back to. I might have to do a top 20
I found this really interesting as I started getting into music around 1970: 10. The Last Record Album - while I like the 70s stuff, to me the Craig Fuller albums were by far the best, especially SHAKE ME UP. 9. Blood on the Tracks - I have all his albums but have not played this one much so I will give it a go. 8. Exodus - I swapped this for a FACES album when I was young as I could not stand the repetitive beat - I will give it another listen. 7. Hotel California - I only ever play 2 tracks from this album - WASTED TIME & TRY AND LOVE AGAIN. DESPERADO album I play the most. 6.Brain Salad Surgery - I will have to start giving this a good listen as I only generally play the first album. 5.One World - I don't own any of his stuff so will have to give this a good listen. 4. Wind and Wuthering - This surprised me as TRICK OF THE TAIL is easily my favorite GENESIS album. 3. Wish You Were Here - I can't separate this , DSOFTM and ANIMALS. 2. Aladdin Zane - Have all his albums but not a big fan but I will give this another serious listen 1. Close To The Edge - Apart from Marillion, my favorite prog band - great album but hard to pick their best as there are so many great albums. THANKS JON FOR SHARING.
Thanks for your detailed reply Michael. We all have different tastes and even now I am playing the Floyd but Animals more than WYWH. Let me know how you get on with your reappraisal of these fab albums.
Thanks for watching this one - always great when someone comments and likes something in there. It's a very personal taste but that's what makes it fun. I would recommend listening so all on the list - try seeking them out on Spotify or UA-cam as they are all classic. Thanks Peter, regards Jon
Mate I really enjoyed your selections - It would seem have similar tastes to yours, but I’m a massive Steely Dan fan and I’d have to be brutal not to put about 4 of their albums in my top 10. I Remember nearly wearing out ‘Close to the Edge’ as I thought it was perfect. I heard Bill Bruford left Yes after that as he felt they could never top it. Also love Genesis and am also a big fan of Wind and Wuthering - I suspect what you love about it is that it is incredibly atmospheric.
What an excellent surprise! Absolutely love Wind and Wuthering. Genesis as a whole I love but, there is something about W&W that is just so appealing. I have a hard time deciding if I like One for the Vine or Blood on the Rooftops as my favorite track of the album.
I can't put them into any kind of order because it dpends so much upon my mood, but Tapestry, Blood on the Tracks, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, Revolver, Rubber Soul, The River, Hotel California, Exile on Main Street, I'm Your Man.
From 71-76 was an important era to my life, especially musically. Favs are in no particular order (only single studio albums) Mike Oldfield; Tubular Bells Deep Purple; Machine Head B. Sabbath; Master of Reality Genesis; Nursery Cryme P. Floyd; Dark Side of Moon Slade; Old New Borrowed & Blue 10cc; How Dare You P. MC/Wings; Band on the Run Slade; Old New Borrowed & Blue
.... Sorry posted too soon... ignore the duplication of Slade, as I was just reordering... The last 2 of my choices are.... E. John; Captain Fantastic & .. S/tramp; Crime of the Century
Interesting list....I'm a big John Martyn fan too, and am planning a VC video on him. A while ago I filmed my own top 20 albums of all time video, and put Bless the Weather at number 20, but I wasn't able to upload it because I'd used needle drops that were too long. I must be telepathic as somehow I knew you were going to say Aladdin Sane was your favourite Bowie album. It may well be mine too, but that's another project in hand. My dad is a classical music buff who's particularly fond of the piano, and when I played him the track Aladdin Sane some years ago I remember this look of barely suppressed horror on his face. I have all the albums in your list apart from Hotel California which has eluded me over the years. Cheers for now.
When I first got Aladdin Sane on its release I couldn’t understand the atonal Mike Garson piano. It took me David alive before I realised how amazing Garson was. This album for me has so many memories and today stands as one of the most iconic covers and collection of music ever made. There will never be another Bowie I like be his chameleon persona and always pushing the boundaries. I’m sad he’s gone but then he has a left an amazing legacy of great albums and I was privileged enough to work in the studio where Bowie history was made.
What's your opinion of Queen btw? I've recorded a Queen video (won't be uploading it for quite a while as I'm about to take a VC break), and in that I mention the great Trident drum sound they got on their second album.
I like Queen especially the early albums up to Night at the Opera. Trouble for me is that they have become commodity - so when a song comes over the radio we all sing along but would I take out the album and play it? Unlikely.
My 10. This is in no particular order because I love them all. Metallica - ...And Justice For All Green Day - Nimrod Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique AC/DC - Highway to Hell Goo Goo Dolls - A Boy Named Goo Son Volt - Okemah and the Melody of Riot Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live at Radio City (This is a live album so does it count? I hope so.) Fuel - Sunburn Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime I know it's mostly rock but that kind of music clicked with me in a way to other type of music did, minus some rap. I'm also younger than most of the people here.
I'll keep this to my Top 10 70s albums: 10. The Stranger - Billy Joel 9. The Cars - The Cars 8. Layla &... - D & Dominos 7. Stainless Class - J Priest 6. Who's Next - The Who 5. 2112 - Rush 4. Animals - Pink Floyds 3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 2. LZ IV 1. Houses of Holy - LZ
INPO: U2/The Joshua Tree, Beatles/Abbey Road, Who/Who’s Next, Springsteen/Born to Run, Steely Dan/Aja, ELP/Brain Salad Surgery, Cars/The Cars, Dire Straits/Making Movies, Queen/A Night at the Opera, Peter Gabriel/So
I couldn't choose a top 10 from these: Pink Floyd, The Wall, Animals, WYWH, DSOTM King Crimson, ITCOTCK, Larks Tongues in Aspic, Red, Discipline, Thrak, The Power to Believe Moody Blues, all the main 7 Yes, Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Close to the Edge Marillion, Marbles, Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, Sounds that can't be made, FEAR Camel, Moonmadness Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn, Incantations Jethro Tull, Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, A Passion Play, Minstrel in the Gallery, Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses, Stormwatch Van Der Graaf Generator, Pawn Hearts, Godbluff, Still Life Tangerine Dream, Pheadra, Rubycon, Ricochet Klaus Schulze, Timewind, X Caravan, In the Land of Grey and Pink, for girl's who grow plump in the night Wishbone Ash, Argus, There's the Rub, New England, No Smoke without Fire Led Zeppelin, 2,3,4, Physical Graffiti Pearl Jam, Vs, Yield Pain of Salvation, In the Passing Light of Day The Orb, UFOrb I could go on and on, there are just too many great albums.
10. Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs 9. To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar 8. Sketches of Spain - Miles Davis 7. Graceland - Paul Simon 6. To Our Children’s Children’s children - Moody Blues 5. London Calling - The Clash 4. Flowers in the Valley - The Clancy Brothers 3. Paul Simon - Paul Simon 2. Days of Future Passed - Moody Blues 1. Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
Love Dark Side and probably play it more often, but if forced to choose one or the other as my luxury on a desert island, it would be Wish You Were Here, good to hear someone else of similar persuasion...
Wish You Were Here is my favorite Floyd album but sometimes it is Meddle. Either Meddle or Wish You Were Here depends on my mood. DSOTM is only my third favorite and The Wall ranks 4th.
So many folks gravitate to the pop Lp's their brain chemistry was impregnated with in their teens, I know lots of folks who get 'stuck' there. I've a hunch a couple of yours would be contenders in a top 1000 20th century list. 70's was a magical time not just for pop/rock efforts, arguably the best decade for Jazz, Classical, Ambient, Soul. Your 1st choice would not be, partly due to the singing, or lack of it, same with Dylan.
"Tea for the Tillerman" by Cat Stevens before his Islamic musical-suicide. "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits", "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye, "Any Album" by the Moody Blues, Cast Album for the Movie: "Hair". "Lonely Bull" by Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass. "Crazy Love" by Michael Buble, Barbra Streisand "The Broadway Album". "Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits" Andrea Bocelli "Christmas Album. Interesting not one overlap!

Jon Pickles just a quick question. Do you enjoy 90215 or is it too commercial and not enough like early Yes? I enjoy half of it but can see both the praise and the criticism for it. Your list was interesting and I’m glad you didn’t sacrifice your true feelings so as to line up with so many tired reviewers picking predictably the same dozen of picks on most countdowns.
John, go on-line and listen to ALL STEELY DAN and BEATLE records. You might want to then re-think your list. And yes, it’s Dark Side of the Moon and Animals are 1 and 2 Floyd records in that order.
Interesting you say Bowie's musicians were pissed off at their level of payment..he apparently offered SRV £200 a night and he told him to piss off...SRV imo a greater natural talent than Bowie by far.....
+Jon Pickles I respect everybody's taste it's all opinion of course but imo Bowie was a con artist who convinced everybody he was a musician.. He wasn't...he was a lousy guitarist, pianist and an even worse saxophonist, his songs are of course 'blues based' and simple 4-6 chord progressions over, for the most basic 'blues' ' rock n roll' rhythms...his genius? Was in surrounding himself in far far superior musicians who padded out and exemplified his very basic songs (would you like a list of those musicians?)..the music actually belongs to them not him...clever clever man..he was an actor after all?
@@andyowen7636 - how can you be a con artist if (at the end of the day) you personally construct a frighteningly complete assemblage of some of the greatest /songs/recordings known to mankind?... with a little help from your friends... we're not all Bob Dylan!...
SRV was fairly unknown at the time. He was part of the band on a Bowie tour, but made special demands. He didn't do too bad anyway after the exposure. Unsure about the 200 quid you mention. The key word used appears to be "apparently". Better guitarist?....without a doubt. All round talent?.....no contest.
This started out so promising Not Little Feat's best imo but at least they're included But then to go from Blood on the Tracks and Exodus...two top drawer choices To the fucking Eagles?! What a spectacular plunge They've got all the integrity of a used car salesman And Genesis post Peter Gabriel? I couldn't go on But I get that he's passionate so whatever works for ya right? Cheers
Interesting because my favourites probably don't get played much because im afraid I'll overexposed them and I'll begin to not like them so much. I know, it's weird
I really enjoyed this list but I disagree with a few things: first you overplayed Wish by pink Floyd, Its a fine album but with only 5 songs and drawn out guitar solos I never really loved it, I'm more of a Final Cut sort of guy. I'm sad there was no queen on this list!!! and NO led zeppelin!!! and no beatles!!! in my opinion Abbey Road is the greatest album of all time.
Jean-Marie Boucherit even after all this time I go back to my favourite albums of all time. I don’t get your comment and if you dont like my choice that’s fine. It’s about my favorite of all time, no one else’s
Jon Pickles maybe but are you teaching us something about good albums or is your only criterion the fact that you loved them when you were fourteen? I think it’s important when you post something and I think you should add something to,our understanding of music.
This is not a teaching exercise but a list of personal favorites. If you can't acknowledge an individual's right to their own choices and emotions . . . that's your issue, not Jon's.
Jean-Marie Boucherit do I need to be objective? Reliable for what? these are and still remain my all time fave albums that I go back to time and time again. It’s not a review it’s a list of “my” top 10 shares with everyone who cares to be interested. I’m sort of glad it’s inspired you to comment so it’s had some reaction my friend.
Jon Pickles fair enough Jon. I understand. It’s just that subjectivity cannot be the alpha and omega of musical thinking. I like. Is not the answer. With due respect .
I have many albums by black artists and was heavily into the dub scene for most of the 80’s. I ha e many albums by Yellowman, Augustus Pavlovic, Eek a Mouse, and I could go on. Unfortunately the time I grew up in and access to music by black artists was difficult. This list is influenced by my formative years in the early 70’s
I mainly listen to classical music, as you can tell from my channel name. However, I like other kinds of music. Some of my favourites:
Straight Life - Freddie Hubbard
Structures From Silence - Steve Roach
Greetings From L.A. - Tim Buckley
Time Out of Mind - Bob Dylan
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
West Side Soul - Magic Sam
Computer World - Kraftwerk

Good choices from yourself, Jon. Cheers!

Can’t deny all in your list could have made mine so you really have to pair them down and think “what albums might I take in a desert island?”
Close to the Edge? You're goddamn right!
This is the 1st video I've seen of yours. I really didn't expect CttE to be number one. Fantastic album, just an amazing synthesis, fusing elements into something unique.

Hello Jon,
Just hearing the notes to Tubular Bells still gets to me.
They were all essential albums to anyone's collection ~
Rob/Boston

I love ll those but I had to draw the line somewhere

5) Duran Duran Rio
6) Frankie Goes to Hollywood Welcome to the Pleasuredome
7) Sting Nothing Like the Sun
8) U 2 Joshua Tree

10) Led Zeppelin IV
@Grant Sherrill I know everyone likes Brothers in Arms but Making Movies is by far and away their best album

Wow, this video picked up a lot of hits Jon. Will come back to this later...already love your first choice.
Blood on the Tracks is truly amazing, but I equally rate Blonde on Blonde. I don't know if I can truly pick my top 10 albums. I'd end up forgetting an artist and be struck down with eternal guilt. I doubt I'll be able to name my top 10 meals. 🤔
DYLAN IS GOD AND UNIQUE
OTHERS DEMENT ALIENS …. HO HO HO
Great list... I think :)... It troubles me, that I only know 5 of the albums. But then again, I have something to discover.
#9 Yes, it is indeed the best Bob Dylan album. Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours
" is the only other album, that is addressing the topic of relationship troubles as beautiful as this Dylan record.
1) Tom Waits Swordfishtrombones
2) Eugene McDaniels Headless Horsemen
3) Joni Mitchel Hissing of Summer Lawns
4) Little Feat - Dixie Chicken
5) Henrix - Are You Experienced
6) Prince Purple Rain
7) Stevie Wonder Superstition
8)Beatles Abbey Road
9) Captain Beefheart Trout
10) American Gypsy American Gypsy (Dutch band)
For me...
Great vid.
I found this really interesting as I started getting into music around 1970:
2. Aladdin Zane - Have all his albums but not a big fan but I will give this another serious listen
My two favorite prog bands as well! Actually, Yes and Marillion are just my two favorite bands.
Some fantastic and timeless music there. Very nice choices.
Number 10 little feet I think I will keep watching
I hope you enjoy some of them
Great list. Have not heard some of them. Pink Floyd's Wish you were here is my favourite by them. The Yes album Close to the edge is great as well.
Thanks for watching this one - always great when someone comments and likes something in there. It's a very personal taste but that's what makes it fun. I would recommend listening so all on the list - try seeking them out on Spotify or UA-cam as they are all classic. Thanks Peter, regards Jon
FANTASTIC John and yes little feat....the tightest album still in that list.... .a gem
Thanks Steve. Yeah Long a distance Love. So good!
All that you dream runs it close though....thanks John for your response
Top 10 albums of all time I will either shut this off after the first one or watch the whole thing
And?
Mate I really enjoyed your selections - It would seem have similar tastes to yours, but I’m a massive Steely Dan fan and I’d have to be brutal not to put about 4 of their albums in my top 10. I Remember nearly wearing out ‘Close to the Edge’ as I thought it was perfect. I heard Bill Bruford left Yes after that as he felt they could never top it. Also love Genesis and am also a big fan of Wind and Wuthering - I suspect what you love about it is that it is incredibly atmospheric.
Sorry I am so late in responding. I have all Steely Dans albums. My fave of the theirs is Pretzel Logic or Goucho but all fab.
What an excellent surprise! Absolutely love Wind and Wuthering. Genesis as a whole I love but, there is something about W&W that is just so appealing. I have a hard time deciding if I like One for the Vine or Blood on the Rooftops as my favorite track of the album.
Rad Dudeski Right now for me it’s Blood on the Rooftops
Nice mix Jon!! .. Thanks!! ..
Leonard Cohen, hell yeah!
From 71-76 was an important era to my life, especially musically. Favs are in no particular order (only single studio albums)
Mike Oldfield; Tubular Bells
Deep Purple; Machine Head
B. Sabbath; Master of Reality
Genesis; Nursery Cryme
P. Floyd; Dark Side of Moon
Slade; Old New Borrowed & Blue
10cc; How Dare You
P. MC/Wings; Band on the Run
Slade; Old New Borrowed & Blue
.... Sorry posted too soon... ignore the duplication of Slade, as I was just reordering... The last 2 of my choices are....
E. John; Captain Fantastic & ..
S/tramp; Crime of the Century
Back when I was just getting started buying records, a mate from high school recommended Brain Salad Surgery AND Close to the Edge to me.
Albums and songs etc it’s all about the memories the time the place. This guy is so spot on.
Great list, well done! I am transfixed by the pic of the three women.
Ha that picture is called back catalogue. It’s pink Floyd albums painted on women’s backs courtesy of Storm studios who did the album cover art
Metallica - ...And Justice For All
Green Day - Nimrod
Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Goo Goo Dolls - A Boy Named Goo
Son Volt - Okemah and the Melody of Riot
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live at Radio City (This is a live album so does it count? I hope so.)
Fuel - Sunburn
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
I know it's mostly rock but that kind of music clicked with me in a way to other type of music did, minus some rap. I'm also younger than most of the people here.
I'll keep this to my Top 10 70s albums:
10. The Stranger - Billy Joel
9. The Cars - The Cars
8. Layla &... - D & Dominos
7. Stainless Class - J Priest
6. Who's Next - The Who
5. 2112 - Rush
4. Animals - Pink Floyds
3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
2. LZ IV
1. Houses of Holy - LZ
Bob Bryans great list
Great picks I also have high regard for all those albums but 1, not sure about your first pick now I want to listen to it.
I remember when Song Gene Genie came out, another band ,the Sweet brought out a single with an identical intro to Gene Genie.Think it was Blockbuster.
Great choice for number 1. I concur!
INPO: U2/The Joshua Tree, Beatles/Abbey Road, Who/Who’s Next, Springsteen/Born to Run, Steely Dan/Aja, ELP/Brain Salad Surgery, Cars/The Cars, Dire Straits/Making Movies, Queen/A Night at the Opera, Peter Gabriel/So
I couldn't choose a top 10 from these:
Pink Floyd, The Wall, Animals, WYWH, DSOTM
King Crimson, ITCOTCK, Larks Tongues in Aspic, Red, Discipline, Thrak, The Power to Believe
Moody Blues, all the main 7
Yes, Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Close to the Edge
Marillion, Marbles, Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, Sounds that can't be made, FEAR
Camel, Moonmadness
Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn, Incantations
Jethro Tull, Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, A Passion Play, Minstrel in the Gallery, Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses, Stormwatch

Wishbone Ash, Argus, There's the Rub, New England, No Smoke without Fire
Led Zeppelin, 2,3,4, Physical Graffiti
Pearl Jam, Vs, Yield
Pain of Salvation, In the Passing Light of Day
The Orb, UFOrb
I could go on and on, there are just too many great albums.
10. Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs
9. To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
8. Sketches of Spain - Miles Davis
7. Graceland - Paul Simon
6. To Our Children’s Children’s children - Moody Blues
5. London Calling - The Clash
4. Flowers in the Valley - The Clancy Brothers
3. Paul Simon - Paul Simon
2. Days of Future Passed - Moody Blues
1. Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
YES Astral Weeks.
I’ll make a different list every week, but Astral Weeks would always be on it
Love Dark Side and probably play it more often, but if forced to choose one or the other as my luxury on a desert island, it would be Wish You Were Here, good to hear someone else of similar persuasion...
Wish You Were Here is my favorite Floyd album but sometimes it is Meddle. Either Meddle or Wish You Were Here depends on my mood. DSOTM is only my third favorite and The Wall ranks 4th.
Nice list i definitely would have BSS on mine.
Thank you for sharing, Jon
Thanks for listening
Love this
So many folks gravitate to the pop Lp's their brain chemistry was impregnated with in their teens, I know lots of folks who get 'stuck' there.
Wind and Wuthering my favorite post Gabriel .
People miss out without album covers these days. And isn't it so that we are inevitably tied to the music that we were young and growing with?
impeccable taste
I love your #1 by yes.to me the title is what happen to the band.they fell from the edge.remb.I love the early YES.the first 5 great.seen them 1972 first row.opening song roundabout.new album.
great video again!
Thanks appreciate you spending time to watch it. Regards, Jon
Summer of 76 in England being hot . Check out Damon Albarn`s song from his solo album everyday robots called Hollow ponds .
Some great choices. I'm surprised you chose Wish You Were Here instead of The Wall but it's still a great album
For me WYWH came out when I was 16 and it was a time that was good for me. I guess that's why. The Wall just didn't do it for me
What is that poster behind you? I like it alot.
Jens Noname it’s called “back catalogue” and each girl has a pink Floyd album cover painted on her back. It’s widely available
@@JonPickles Thank you!
ELO Out Of The Blue
What dit you find ,Pictures and Exebition van ELP?
Ones, i have this album when i was sixteen, best life album always, sorry my englisch is not so good, i'm from holland i hope you like my awnser, have a nice time.
Great!!!!
All mod cons the jam great song writing from 20 year old Paul Weller
Mick Mcgowan there are so many classics I live that didn’t make it. If I did this again I’m sure it might change
No Zappa no party!
Great watch although your list is a little too prog for my liking (im more psych/garage)..........im gunna try (again!!) to get into brain salad on watching this
Thats the easiest pink Floyd to get "
Kurt Geiger makes shoes - H R Geiger did the ELP cover :)
You are closer. It`s Giger.
And I have some of those shoes

Who’s the photo of behind your left shouldef
Photos of Led Zeppelin middle one signed
Jon Pickles just a quick question. Do you enjoy 90215 or is it too commercial and not enough like early Yes? I enjoy half of it but can see both the praise and the criticism for it. Your list was interesting and I’m glad you didn’t sacrifice your true feelings so as to line up with so many tired reviewers picking predictably the same dozen of picks on most countdowns.
wait, of ALL time ?????????????
Share your top fifty.
I might do that one fine day
John, go on-line and listen to ALL STEELY DAN and BEATLE records. You might want to then re-think your list. And yes, it’s Dark Side of the Moon and Animals are 1 and 2 Floyd records in that order.
Believe me when I say I love all the SD and Beatles it’s just about the albums that mean something to me and are part of my life
Interesting you say Bowie's musicians were pissed off at their level of payment..he apparently offered SRV £200 a night and he told him to piss off...SRV imo a greater natural talent than Bowie by far.....
+andy owen SRV vs Bowie no contest. Bowie the Chameleon by far - SRV just the blues!
+Jon Pickles extremely simple deduction that 'only the blues' ....
Ha oh dear, you've got the naked women pink floyd covers poster. An embarrassing student poster.
Which I had when I was a student. It’s not embarrassing to me it’s part of the PF legacy entitled “back catalogue”.
This started out so promising
Not Little Feat's best imo but at least they're included
But then to go from Blood on the Tracks and Exodus...two top drawer choices
To the fucking Eagles?! What a spectacular plunge
They've got all the integrity of a used car salesman
And Genesis post Peter Gabriel?
I couldn't go on
But I get that he's passionate so
whatever works for ya right?
Cheers
ELP: BSS album is the absolut best.
All the albums more ör less the same (60s-70s-80s)
mehmet yüksel ues we all have a favourite era I’m sure
@@JonPickles I have the same taste as you have. Sometime I feel to stuck too much in those decades. I think the young ones today don't feel the same
Interesting because my favourites probably don't get played much because im afraid I'll overexposed them and I'll begin to not like them so much. I know, it's weird
Same here over familiarisation - doing my top ten made me play them all and I realised what I was missing.
No Cockney Rejects, then?
Tony Bates I quite liked Oi Oi Oi
Nah mate.. Too posh to push.
Blimey, Jon, you've only just given a ♥️ to a comment I made five years ago! Where ya been? 😉
Master of Reality Black Sabbath
TUBULAR BELLS, HERGEST RIDGE, OMMADAWN!!!
try polish best niemen enigmatic , brekaut and dzem
I really enjoyed this list but I disagree with a few things: first you overplayed Wish by pink Floyd, Its a fine album but with only 5 songs and drawn out guitar solos I never really loved it, I'm more of a Final Cut sort of guy. I'm sad there was no queen on this list!!! and NO led zeppelin!!! and no beatles!!! in my opinion Abbey Road is the greatest album of all time.
They are his favorites not the bests
If they’re all from the seventies you are neither objective nor reliable.
What's the point of background music?...so annoying and intrusive
Too main stream for my liking - nothing 8unexpected really.
If you knew my tastes and what I okay i.e. VDGG this is for some a surprising list
how suprising white boy doesnt know any black artist
I have many albums by black artists and was heavily into the dub scene for most of the 80’s. I ha e many albums by Yellowman, Augustus Pavlovic, Eek a Mouse, and I could go on. Unfortunately the time I grew up in and access to music by black artists was difficult. This list is influenced by my formative years in the early 70’s
What makes people think that we care?
ass hole alert, whats the frequency kenneth.
Well you watched it didn’t you in order to comment?
prog rock crap. yes ha ha i gave that album away
If you don't like a genre maybe I suggest you don't comment?
if you don't like feedback may i suggest you post videos
No that's not feedback it's pointless criticism
;-)
+Paul Wilkinson not angry at all mate. I like what I like and constructive criticism is great. But hey ho. Whatever you want to say all good.
