It's Scorsese's best since Casino. I've been watching his films since the early 80s, the first one I saw in theater was After Hours in 1985. It's funny how huge a meme Taxi Driver was before internet, people would just act "Are you talking to me?"

When I saw Killers of the Flower Moon, the 3 hours and 26 minutes went by so fast that I decided to see a "Monday Mystery Movie" after. It's A Wonderful Knife was the movie and it was bad. Basically a sold out crowd sitting in silence thru every joke. It made me mad that they weren't all in the auditorium for Killers. When the other movie started it had a company logo "Divide/Conquer" so I thought that was the title and even though the movie was bad, it had almost the same plot of trying to take over a town by killing residents only it was Justin Long doing it.

Tepid praise from Spielberg, complimenting the aspect that hurt the film the most! In forcing the focus from the FBI investigation to the Osage, the entire thrust of the book is lost and the mystery is gone. We are told within the first 20 minutes of the movie who the bad guys are, and so the film takes on a dirge-like feeling of torture/misery porn. Since we know who the bad guys are.thenentire time, the feelings of discovery and mounting dread one feels from the book is gone.

That was a good movie. But it's politically problematic. The film acts as if the Federal government had no responsibility or share in the massacre of the Osage indians. To each their own, but I thought this movie was exceptional. I was engaged every minute of it, which can be hard with a movie of this running time.

It really will. Its incredibly flawed across several metrics including the acting.

It honestly was an overlong, miscast, underwritten mess that is held up by the reputation of its director.
It had such thought provoking history to work with and he just ended up making another mob movie where the focus was on the two white actors who were way outside of their otherwise very wide ranges.
He couldn’t pick a tone for Leo’s character and for some reason continued to try to make him somewhat sympathetic when he was clearly a villain.
Deniros character had such little nuance and subtlety that it made the Osage look like naive fools the whole movie when this clearly evil character was taking advantage of them.
And it was just. Too. Long. The plot was not intriguing enough to even begin to warrant the runtime. Which sucks because the investigation part was actually an interesting segment but you were so deep in the movie it was difficult to give it any sort of emotional investment.

@@Joshuanyc73 i agree with you on that. but race has played a factor before in awards you would agree; and i do think this is a unique contemporary example to consider; given shes native American. i think some of the voters chose a white actress over her because native american history and culture is so "fictional" to them. i feel like she was robbed. and it wasnt like with denzel for malcolm x when pacino won and it was "his turn"... emma stone already has an oscar and shes young. i just feel like Lily gave a timeless performance that will last forever and she deserved the award. and a native american has never won. why?

In ways, scorsese is awlays gonna make a good film from a filmmakers perspective...but Killers had virtually no plot, was way too long and missed the opportunity to create a film more closely aligned with the book where the full horror of what is going on is reveled through examining this world more through the story of the fbi rather than through ernest.
