Definitely a GADA watch. I remember visiting a doctor’s office while on vacation in Hawaii. I was wearing my Sinn 104, which the doctor quickly recognized and asked to see. I indulged him, and he admitted that the 104 was on his short list. So fun running into fellow enthusiasts in the wild!
About the bezel: The screws are to create a captive bezel that won’t come off when knocked. It’s 60-click, bi-directional, with countdown markings rather than elapsed time. Other cool fact: Not only is it rated to 200m, but it’s also low pressure resistant to prevent the crystal popping off during flight. This watch may look simple, but it has more tricks up its sleeve than meets the eye.
The screws do keep the bezel in place, but also allow you to remove the bezel and manipulate the bezel alignment using the now uncovered triplets of holes revealed.
That’s a beautiful watch! Although a fully polished tool watch seems to defeat the toolish nature of it. Kind of like a metal G Shock with a polished face. Wait a second, I have a metal G Shock with a polished face, and I love it!
James, I was looking & have been looking at Sinn for some 3 years. Actually I was on the Sinn site this morning! In particular the 556. Having said that as yet I have not bought one because the 104 is on my radar!😵💫🥰🤣
The prices on Sinn watches Have gone through the roof in the last 5 years. I own a Laco flieger, and it's my only German watch to date. I am kicking myself for not buying one when they were more affordable. This one is certainly a looker. Thanks James!
..... thanks for a good look at the Sinn canvas/leather strap ..... I've just ordered a new 356 pilot ( with acrylic crystal ) on bracelet ( plus a black leather strap ) and have been wondering about this canvas strap .... love the way it is fraying and has a slightly ragged look , others have mentioned the way the strap frays in negative terms but I think it is a bonus , will be a perfect contrast to the 356 ....... so thanks
I appreciate your objections to the 104. I like the day/date execution, guess that’s just a matter of taste. As for the finish, keep in mind it’s also a pilot watch. Airline pilots’ uniforms are on the same level of formality as a business suit; so making the watch less “tooley”makes sense. Also I think the steel used has a high Vicker’s hardness, making it less likely to scratch.
Technically it isn't a dive watch. It is a pilot watch that happens to be rated to 200 meters. I know its a little like splitting hairs. Surely you can use it on dives but if it had to classified its a pilot.
Interestingly, the Tudor Pelagos MN FXD has a bidirectional, countdown bezel like the Sinn 104. Apparently, French Navy divers used such a bezel for navigational purposes. That said, the Sinn 104 is definitely a capable dive watch with its 200m water-resistant rating.

Agree about the day/date complication. The day positioned at 3 o'clock just makes too big of a block. Seiko does this too much.

I’ve heard great things about them.

The 104 is not tegimented and, therefore, does not have the increased Vickers hardness rating.
