Thank you very much for this fantastic music.
Amazing band.
wunderbar!
Terje probably also playing string ensemble, based on the "Odyssey" liner notes and some of the playing in the previous three sections...the electronics/keyboards are a real highlight of the concert...we really need to hear more from this group - anything that can be found would be much appreciated. ..
Super Stuff !!!
danke!!!
I'd be interested in finding out the influence Manfred Eicher might have had on the recording of the "Odyssey" album, which occurred in August 1975, or whether the band themselves changed/finalized some of this music between March and August...no electric piano or electronic 'effects', just organ, on the ECM sessions and no percussion textures either i.e. just a drum kit...the band seems to be playing more freely in this concert, more willing to experiment/improvise...the ECM sessions are relatively sedate ("Over Birkerot" being the exception) compared with the music here...
The guys in the band wanted to blow more, and they did live, but Terje was very dedicated on a kind of symphonic kind of approach, to differ from the mainstream jazzrock. In the studio when they recorded "Odyssey", Manfred Eicher kept nagging "more cymbals", and a couple of years later Terje wrote a tune named "More cymbals" for his friend Manfred (Terje humor, its on "No time for time" (1977)
Wonderfull musician this "Terje Rypdal" !.. Alas ... american has always been promoting the american first ... english later and nothing for the rest of the worl which doesn't even exist !..
I am sure that Terje Rypdal is not the only very nice musician in ALL OVER THE WORLD !..
IT'S A PITY !..
Terje on sax, notice no guitar when sax is playing. Thanks Bibi- great recording too for '75!
