Kat, women weren't owned property. They were the _wards_ of their parents or their husbands. This arrangement placed a set of rights and obligations on both parties. Married women, for instance, enjoyed the right to be financially supported by their husbands, dower rights, and rights of agency. Dower rights: if the couple owned a home, the husband could not sell it without the wife's permission. She had a right to live in that home, and he was legally prohibited from selling it out from under her. Rights of agency: this conferred the right to purchase necessaries like food, clothing and housewares on her husband's credit. She could pick out a bunch of stuff, tell the shopkeeper to put it on her husband's tab, and walk out with it. Incidentally, if the wife was overspending, the husband would have to go to each shop individually and notify the owners that he would no longer honor his wife's purchases. An ad in the local paper or a town crier announcement didn't hold water in court. Wives also enjoyed immunity from marital debt. The husband was the administrator of the marital estate, so if the couple fell into catastrophic debt, HE was the one who'd be sent to debtor's prison. Meanwhile, in the world of work, "sistren" have been recorded on the master rosters of various trade guilds going back to before the 1500s. In terms of trades, women (often single women with no prospects of marriage) dominated weaving, baking and brewing, leading to the feminized surnames Brewster, Baxter and Webster, which are common even today (passed down to unmarried tradeswomen's sons). And of course, the term "spinster" referred to the work commonly done by unmarried women who had no parents or husband to support them. That aside, women have been recorded as masters in ALL the trade guilds in Britain, including blacksmithing, going back to the 1400s and earlier. And women who married a tradesman had a cheat they could exploit. If he died, she could inherit his master status, hire journeymen and take on apprentices. It was _assumed_ that she had sufficiently learned the trade by being married to him and helping him run the business. Unmarried women earned income and owned property in their own names. There was no law forbidding lenders from extending credit to unmarried women, though lenders could exercise their own discretion. Young women had a tougher time getting loans than middle aged widows, for sure. Why? Because if that young woman subsequently got married, her husband would be the person responsible for repaying all her debts. Lenders kind of like to know who'll be on the hook for repayment so they can manage their risks. Widows were a different matter. First, they'd have a history of managing credit (rights of agency). Most wives behaved responsibly with their husband's credit reputation because not doing so hurt the entire family. Widows were also more likely than never-married women to remain unmarried. And an unmarried woman COULD be held accountable for her own debts. Marital coverture was a complex set of laws that bestowed rights, entitlements and responsibilities on both parties. But immunities? Those were for the wife alone. As for being "owned" by your parents, that's called children's privilege. The right to be fed, clothed and sheltered by your parents and to live under their protection and care. Women retained it in adulthood. Men did not.
Maybe if they call themselves the _Buck_ Skins? I mean, they're from _Washington D.C._ you know. 🤣 ... Of course, there's always the name "Pirates," assuming Pittsburgh doesn't have a problem with it. (Probably a more appropriate name too.) 🏴☠
I wanna know why not a single lawyer in Indiana will take a case against this corruption and tyranny by the Department of Justice. Take my money. It's literally your job.
If they are allowed to pick and choose what cases they take, that isn't very "enshrined right" of them. If people have a right to legal representation, their lawyer shouldn't be able to refuse a case. And if a Lawyer can't refuse a case, then they can't be held accountable if they lose, because they had no choice. Lawyers have a choice in who they represent, though, and chose to represent and win for people who are obviously guilty or who railroad people who are arguably innocent, or at least could be called "not guilty" Lawyers either shouldn't be able to choose who they represent or they should lose their immunity.

tyrus chiming in with "you all look alike" was the funniest thing i've heard all week...thanks tyrus
@4:28….. the quote St. Peter will play to her as she descends to hell
Greg you were on your game tonight, great show brother ❤!
Chaos creates cash that's why they all do it
This is old news. Don’t you remember Rachel Dolezal? No discussion about race grifting can take place without the grandmother of it all.
Well, unlike the Senator, he DOES HAVE native American ancestors 😅😂
Nice take on Haley from Tulsi. She walked the walk of the military. Thank you for your service.
Change starts in the heart ❤️
I thought we had a civil war. Everyone speaks so well on Gutfeld. Bravo.
See, I told she's looney! One of the most beautiful paintings in the Sistine Chapel! Only a heretic can bring such charges, the portrait represents the divinity of GOD over man, when Adam reaches out to touch the finger of GOD. This is just a portrait, because of the time Michelangelo was basically white and time gave way to the white man, was appropriate to paint. Truth, GOD is nether Black, White, Green, Orange, Yellow...Try pure brite white energy, like a ball of pure thought and potential!
Greg's opening was excellent. More of this, please!!!
The 15th century was absolutely great for women. Protected and cared for by their loving fathers in youth , protected and cared for by their loving husbands thru out their lives , protected and cared for by their respectful loving eldest son in their old age. And they did not have to expose themselves on Only Fans to come up with some money for survival. It is our age that is the worse age for women. Wake up Kat.
Oookaaay. Except for dying during childbirth, having no real rights, and pestilence. And no air conditioning, Or designer shoes.
That's great if you were a princess or lucky enough to be born into a rich man's home. Something tells me there weren't that many and may have had to do some rather disgusting things even if they were. So, imagine what it might have been like for a poor woman with no man in her life and no money as I'm sure there were a few of them also. Probably a few butt-ugly diseased ones too. It's not like there were very many laws that protected them from being treated like objects and sold into slavery by their own families (which absolutely happened and still happens in a countries like Somalia, Libya or North Korea).
@@mikeottersole Those poor women. It's a shame that only they had to deal with with pestilence and lack of air conditioning back then. Of course, your great-great-great-great-great-grandfather rocked those designer shoes.
Mike --- everyone back in those days had to deal with a different level of technology and medicine than we have now --- everyone --- wether male fo female. Most of the population lived an old fashion good active outdoor farming life tied to the land under the fuedal system in which they had to give a portion of their crops to the owner of the land , the fuedal lord every year -- a person they would actually know , talk with , and interact with. We still have fuedal lords here in this day as well ---- it is called the corporate CEO overlord . When was the last time you talked to the corporate CEO of the company you may work for ???? My guess is never. They at least could talk with their ""head"" boss directly and air the grievances --- us in this day and age --- not a chance. Do not fall into the trap that we have it ""better"" here in our age because of the babbles of technology , in a lot of ways , we have it worse -- much worse.@@mikeottersole
@@dner75-xh9le Apparently humour is wasted on you. Sorry, I refuse to romanticize the past. Things are so obviously better now, but of course could be better. We have huge problems. Your juvenile insults to my family history accomplish nothing.
sue them into bankruptcy
Pretty sure Robin hasn’t read the Bible. God made man in his own image it didn’t say his own color. Like to see her attack God and the Bible. She’ll have to stand on her own two feet when her time comes to have that conversation with Him.
True. His Ideals are what we are to mirror.
Her remarks are a denigration of Michaelangelo, the art world and the world at large. May she...
These race baiters have to be stopped.
They are Master baiters!
Excellent !! Sue the F out of them !
race baiters are like the elders in the movie The Village where "creatures are actually the elders disguised as the monsters to perpetuate the legend so they can scare and deter younger members from leaving"...
That sounds like a really _stupid_ movie. Thanks for the heads up.
@WXSEDY actually it wasn't bad. There was a reason for it. You may not like the film any way, but try it. Unusual ending.
You know all those grievance studies that started in '60s universities. What other job could they possibly do? It is all a make work project.
Nice sweater Mr. Rogers:)
