Very helpful! Just got a new job assisted families through the EHCP process & it’s great to see this from the parents side so thanks for sharing your story. Really helped me out 😀
My sons ehcp was under semh but on his my story he put the people most important was his xbox his phone and play station was so funny but shows the level he’s at, he’s not in mainstrem highschool but he’s struggling massively so we are now looking at sen school, well done for getting his support and his ehcp
We received our EHCP about 9 months ago and i was not sure what i was expecting. Lots of stuff about our son which we already knew. The key thing will be in the schools report and that is the funding. We got 20 hours of 121 support paid for and that's made a massive difference. Son has masive progress in the last 9 months. So reach out to your school asap to see how they will be enacting the plan.
As an on and off follower of this story, pleased to see things appear like they are improving. EHCP seems good, feel free to suggest tweaks and liase with others who wrote it though. This can be taken into account before the EHCP is finalised. Altering it to ensure the use of visual aids for learning is stated more explicitly may be a start. 👍 My only concern is the funding and levels of hours being vague. Local authority need to give the school a decent amount of additional funding to make it work. Employing an Autism specialist LSA part-time/using a local special school to share best practice will mean teaching and support staff can be made more aware of the different approaches required to support someone with a possible autism diagnosis in their class. Significant needs cannot be run on a shoestring. Mainstream methods that most school staff are taught do not always work with everyone.

That’s great! Good luck in your job. We’ve reviewed ours a few times since this.
