It only had to be minimally functional for the staff. You can see his kitchens becoming more beautiful as the years went along.
That style kitchen was an integral part of the design offered by Mr. Wright! Changing it would change the design which something you would not want to do with that house!

Absolutely stunning building, I could in no way live there, but I can appreciate the design. It was lovely to hear an estate agent showing us around that seemed to understand some architectural history too.
According to Wright's autobiography, his mother declared when she was expecting that her first child would grow up to build beautiful buildings. She decorated his nursery with engravings of English cathedrals torn from a periodical to encourage the infant's ambition.
Living in LA and being a big Frank Lloyd Wright fan, I've been to the Ennis House many times, but I've never seen the inside, despite asking all the architects I know to help me get inside, because in the past they used to let architects in there. Well, I got to see the Hollyhock House and Taliesin West, and now at least I've gotten a tor of the Ennis at least virtually, so thank you!
I've been there and it feels even more amazing in person. What they don't have time to point out is that Wright designed EVERY detail, down to the hinges and toilet paper dispensers, all of which are better than anything I've ever seen.
It just too much CONCRETE. That and Wright was in mourning when he built this home. His wife had died. Just look for his Biography. Dude was obsessed with Mayan tombs. And then he built this house. #Creepy 😓😒😰
Americans love to live in tasteless unimaginative identical timber boxes with boring repulsive colors and identical tasteless unimaginative furniture for everyone.
I've been to a few of FLW houses , while he was an amazing architect none of this houses feel like you're in a house, they are more like offices.Another problem with his houses is that you can't change anything, you are living in a piece of artwork, and there is no place to hang any type of paintings, you're stuck with the furniture because no other style of furniture would work with that interior design.
You have to think about the times when he lived. A lot of bussiness men were looking for homes like these. Big and extravagant while also being able to have an office inside.
I wouldn’t feel obligated to not changing things but rather to occasionally make the changes I feel Flw would’ve done himself or at least approved of but I do think he’d have approved of bleeding edge, innovative and risky changes that were conscious of natural materials, artisanship and the site itself
Most of the houses FLLW designed are still used as private homes. Those that are owned by city governments or foundations kind of feel like offices because there's no personal stuff in them, like toothbrushes, cans of soup, kid's sneakers or cat boxes.
I seen several documentaries about this house, but this was the first inside tour (probably because of the condition prior to restoration. Frank Lloyd Wrights' interiors always feel a bit more like museums than homes. That's because he took the aesthetic to the Nth degree; the interior matches the exterior; the furniture matches everything else. Which is great for award winning innovative design, not so great on the tushy. Thx for sharing!
MP MP you’re exactly right. FLW is an icon and ppl will pay SO MUCH to have something with his name attached. It’s crazy! But I understand why! He was amazingly talented and creative.
The place has a lot of great ideas in there, love the logia, ponds, pools and private balcony. Not a fan of the compression & release especially with concrete. Love the terrasse and window glass corners. The Art Deco touches are also excellent.
What a stunning work of art. I can appreciate the beauty in the architecture, but also the way the landscape is incorporated into the design of the house. It's cozy, while also maintaining a very open structure. Truly inspiring. 🥰
The architectural teens are facinating... compression and release.... continual becoming....I just love the way he thought and coined words that still are used today... just wonderful ❤️♥️♥️

FLW was absolutely amazing. The only thing that I ever dislike about his homes are the kitchens but they were not deemed entertaining areas back then so my love of his homes stay consistently at about 98-99%. He was very ahead of his time and it makes my heart so happy that when people renovate, that they stay in line with the themes
Man.... Frank Lloyd Wright is one of my favorite architects; how I would love to own this house. Not to necessarily live in it, but to have at as a vacation home. It must be incredible to be able to live in a house designed by him, but also in a style I never even knew existed..... maybe one day...

Other property owners should look into hiring her to showcase their properties.... Apart from being well informed , she knows how to pass the core details.. Thanks to her for the beautiful presentation...
This has always been my favorite house for so many reasons. If I had it ,I would purchase it from you because you are so perfect to show and sell it. Best wishes to the potential buyer...
In 1999, I had the chance to spend a couple of days directing a music video here. At the time, one of the partners at the production company I was with owned the Millard House in Pasadena. I initially scouted it as a potential location, but it was far too small-there’s a reason it’s called “La Miniatura.” Besides, I couldn’t resist the chance to follow in Ridley Scott’s footsteps. The entryway in the Ennis Brown House truly showcases the home’s grandeur. You step through a small, low-ceilinged space, which then dramatically opens up into the breathtaking architecture that defines the house.
@B S it impacts me a lot less than my comment impacted you it would seem. has no one in your life ever made a casual observation? perhaps you should leave the house more, strike up a conversation, talk about the weather or something. your username is perfect.
One of my favorite homes of all time, I would design something similar but ancient Egyptian architecture for inspiration. This is an absolute win in my book.
It's extremely beautiful and I've always loved Frank Lloyd Wright's work though I don't think I would ever want to live in it personally. It would be like living in the Palace of Versailles, I wouldn't feel comfortable slouching around in such a formal, opulent environment with old artifacts and luxurious furniture everywhere. I view it more as a work of art to observe and admire rather than a home for me to live in.
This is probably the best video of the Ennis house to date. Comprehensive with detailed close-ups. Thanks for a phenomenal tour! (A little disconcerting that there are still cracked, chipped, disintegrating tiles. Will require constant ongoing maintenance. $$$.)
You have an Ennis collection too? I have a folder with 325 pictures. What are you using to download the vid? Free UA-cam Downloader isn't working for me anymore.
Wright was a genius designer and architect, but his buildings had some serious issues like Fallingwater and Ennis House and always were more difficult and expensive to build in reality. That house is for someone who has 23 Mill as play-money, and skipping a new private jet or McLaren F1 buy for this.
There is a very informative UA-cam video about Falling Water and the architectural problems. FW is beautiful but I agree...someone with tons of play money should own his homes because they always seem to need shoring up or something.

I've been there and it feels even more amazing in person. What they don't have time to point out is that Wright designed EVERY detail, down to the hinges and toilet paper dispensers, all of which are better than anything I've ever seen.
What a bargain, this is pure art. Insane property.
Horrible
It doesn't feel liveable though
Every single comment on this channel is “ yea but it doesn’t feel hOmEy”
I don't get where people aren't seeing the homely-ness, it seems super homely to me
It just too much CONCRETE.
Boring stuck in a box traditional value warriors
@@mmtcar accept when Americans build houses like this.... It's in America
I really like her job, she does great explanaition.
I've been in this one. It's surprising bright on the inside. Looking out through the original stain glass windows is awesome.
You have to think about the times when he lived. A lot of bussiness men were looking for homes like these. Big and extravagant while also being able to have an office inside.
You say all that like they're bad things. ;-)
7:31 The six people in the mirror tho
It takes a village...
Good eye!
Ghosts from the past :D
ahahahah
I only see 5
I seen several documentaries about this house, but this was the first inside tour (probably because of the condition prior to restoration. Frank Lloyd Wrights' interiors always feel a bit more like museums than homes. That's because he took the aesthetic to the Nth degree; the interior matches the exterior; the furniture matches everything else. Which is great for award winning innovative design, not so great on the tushy. Thx for sharing!
TWENTY THREE MILLION DOLLARS..
*_for three (3) bedrooms..._*
what's not clicking, los angeles...
A house made by one of the most important architects of the XX cent. that's why the price is so high (Plus where's located, the house itself...)
MP MP you’re exactly right. FLW is an icon and ppl will pay SO MUCH to have something with his name attached. It’s crazy! But I understand why! He was amazingly talented and creative.
I know right. You should watch Zedd's house. 16Mil and so dmn huge big
cameron alexander it’s designed by Frank Lloyd Wright! Pretty much the only reason it’s that much money
@@concreteunicorn1607 Also, he added 17. million to restore the house. I would have modernize the kitchen. But, it's a museum now.
This is the best showing of this property I've seen so far. Beautiful home.
Yes.

Sounds great! I connect with nature looking out my window at the Virgin Mountains, and the Flat Top Mesa.
@@jeffchastain2977 nice! I connect with nature through remote access via youtube videos.
The architectural teens are facinating... compression and release.... continual becoming....I just love the way he thought and coined words that still are used today... just wonderful ❤️♥️♥️
this is perfection, the design and architecture is beyond this world. For 23 Mil, that's a hell of a deal too! i'm so in awe with this house! the design is timeless and so perfect, i can talk bout it for hours lol so beautiful 😍
I've seen alot of luxury home videos before around here but this is one of the most unique and beautiful houses I've seen so far
It's awesome can understand why it is so iconic and also restored with real passion and commitment
I feel like if Lucifer were to buy a house in the Netflix show this would be it
His style is more modern tho, isnt it?
What is your deepest darkest desires?
WHY WOULD YOU WATCH THAT TRASH
Mr. Chapo Martinez don’t diss lucifer is one of the better shows on Netflix
This is incredibly cool, stunning and a true masterpiece, but I could never, ever live there. I would feel like I was living in "Night at the Museum".
*THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND CREATIVE HOUSES I'VE SEEN*
Beautiful but creepy feeling to stay here
Because of Twin Peaks.
This reminds me of a pyramid you have to escape
Temple Run?
Yesss!
This house should be purchased by the state and used as a museum
so true
They can't, they wasted like $5billion on building a high speed rail system that never got finished.
Man.... Frank Lloyd Wright is one of my favorite architects; how I would love to own this house. Not to necessarily live in it, but to have at as a vacation home. It must be incredible to be able to live in a house designed by him, but also in a style I never even knew existed..... maybe one day...
Air B&B it for $4500/night.
Apart from the beautiful house, Im impressed by the host / presenter.. In fact after having watched several shows / presentations showcasing properties beautiful lady has truly impressed. Other property owners should look into hiring her to showcase their properties.... Apart from being well informed , she knows how to pass the core details..
Thanks to her for the beautiful presentation...
As an architect, this is my dream house!
This has always been my favorite house for so many reasons. If I had it ,I would purchase it from you because you are so perfect to show and sell it. Best wishes to the potential buyer...
it hasn't even been a minute into the video and i already love the house !
I love it! You don’t even see the furniture. It’s all about the stunning space ❤
Just wanna let the host know that she's beautiful and don't need to adjust her clothes a lot. You go girl!
Wrong choice of footwear though 😜
It seems art deco to me
she was struggling on those pathways. :)
@B S it impacts me a lot less than my comment impacted you it would seem. has no one in your life ever made a casual observation? perhaps you should leave the house more, strike up a conversation, talk about the weather or something. your username is perfect.
@B S i will not shhh. i will blah blah blah.
@B S blah blah blah
Frank Lloyd Wright was like a century ahead of his time.
I view it more as a work of art to observe and admire rather than a home for me to live in.
this looks like a place an HP lovecraft character would lose his mind in as he slowly discovers the dark secrets of his ancestry
Shadow over Innsmouth intensifies
Pedantically pointing out that ... you mentioned a rose garden twice while showing camellias. Thank you for share this iconic property.
This is probably the best video of the Ennis house to date. Comprehensive with detailed close-ups. Thanks for a phenomenal tour! (A little disconcerting that there are still cracked, chipped, disintegrating tiles. Will require constant ongoing maintenance. $$$.)
It looked like a box fort on the thumbnail.
looks like a retirement home
This agent / presenter is amazing. Great tour.
The house and the agent are too much georgeous I can't handle
How is she walking around that massive house in those shoes
ikr, that's what I said
I thought for sure she was going to fall.
@Top Ten she probably had, but they cut it out from this video
.. very cautiously, I especially noticed that when she's around those flagstones on the long narrow path ..
There's a lot more green space then I ever thought there was. I've just added the video to my "Ennis House" collection.
You have an Ennis collection too? I have a folder with 325 pictures.
What are you using to download the vid? Free UA-cam Downloader isn't working for me anymore.
"You have multiple varieties of roses"... but shows camellias and zero roses.
And when she passed the beautiful white rose bushes she referred to them as flowers. 😆
😂😂😂😂
Omg thank you for noticing! It's not just me 😂

"Frank Lloyd Wright loved water" 😂😂 same here
What a beautifully done video, doing justice both to Lloyd Wright and to the customary excellence of Architectural Digest. MAGNIFICENT.
Stunning and extraordinary. Thanks AD.
It’s amazing how something built pretty much 100 years ago can still feel futuristic.
I've decided Frank Lloyd Wright was high af all the time
yes otherwise he would not be able to do such masterpieces ...
This home is so awesome 👏🏻
Wright was a genius designer and architect, but his buildings had some serious issues like Fallingwater and Ennis House and always were more difficult and expensive to build in reality.
That house is for someone who has 23 Mill as play-money, and skipping a new private jet or McLaren F1 buy for this.
There is a very informative UA-cam video about Falling Water and the architectural problems. FW is beautiful but I agree...someone with tons of play money should own his homes because they always seem to need shoring up or something.
@@WakandaBabe That's what you get when your architect pushes the envelope. I'd rather have one of Frank's houses than most of that bulky junk they're putting up in Beverly Hills & Bel Air these days.
I'd take the house!
While covering the garden you mention the rose garden. The shrub that’s photographed and in multiple shots is a Camellia
it's quite different to see this building in a closer look with more details rather than just the images i have searched before, very interesting, thanks
Fast forward to 9:46 little man was 🏃 fast across the loggia lol
what a keen observation
At 6:57, I am particularly alarmed at the state of the concrete blocks above the gate , they appear to be somewhat damaged .
They are originals that the owner decided not to replace. They are reinforced, but have their aged look.
Several instances of cracked, chipped, or disintegrating tiles. House will require nearly constant repairs and maintenance. $23 mil is just the starting cost.
Hopefully one day I can design my own house inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright designs and not have to settle in some cookie cutter suburbia hell house. This house is so important to architectural history
I love his designs! I stayed in one of his apprentices homes and I can’t view other houses the same way!
Beatiful scenery surrounding this awesome home
"better than new" condition and yet there's chunks missing from the concrete blocks all over the place.
We a time line to restore it and budget
Aforgamon .. Good eyes man! I never noticed ..
It feels like when you sleep in the masters bedroom at night you'll end up in a secret room in the morning. It seems like it's a labyrinth machine and it's quite eerie to live in.
Although I've never been in it, I have so many pictures of this house, exterior and interior, and have "built" it several time for The Sims games, I could probably make my way through it blindfolded.
