    Hi, very nice Doc.
    The problem with trash/littering is present in many countries without collection by the community. We have it in Ghana, too. The traditional lifestyle has sustained a long time without knowing plastic waste etc. Now we are overwhelmed with cheap plastic and electric goods and have no place to dump those special wastes.
    It might be the same problem in India. And I assume, that your hosts where shy to talk about it.
    Anyway, thanks for this one, nice and informative

    • @wickysmall8607
      @wickysmall8607 11 місяців тому +1

      It reminded me of the trash accumulated at the different camps on Mount Everest, the difficulty of access makes it very difficult but mostly very expensive. Companies are charging their clients a fortune for an attempt at K2, I wish the local government would impose tougher restrictions and make these Cies responsible for cleaning the mess after the season ended.

    • @ProfUPS
      @ProfUPS 5 місяців тому +1

      You have no place to dump those special wastes. Ok. So what do you do in this case? Right, you just dump all the thrash EVERYWHERE in nature, instead of organizing your communities to collect their thrash and at least dump it in one place.

      As appalled as we might be of the garbage, we have to keep in mind that they don't have garbage services out there. No one to teach them the long-term effect of rubbish in their environment because the non-biodegradable packaging is probably relatively new to them (last 10-20 years). If their government only lets them have electricity 1-2 a year, I can't imagine there are services to haul their garbage up/down a day's trek through the mountains.

      This is something that has come down through generations....It doesnt make sense in todays world but this was a reality in India 20 years ago....its just that Malana and its people stuck to their traditions, could be because of lack of exposure...but you cannot blame them for what they have seen all there life.
      And a lot have changed in the recent past..if you have been there and if you visit places like these regularly you woyld never say that.

    I had visited this place way back in 1982, though we were were told well before we reached the village about their taboo culture. However, we were surprised, we could move around the village freely and I remember we had spoken to two villagers and asked them about the reason why they did not want to touch us. To our suprise, to demonstrate there was no such practice, they handed over their little baby in our arms to hold. They sighted their own reason which is related to old Indian caste system, that I won't like to mention here . Otherwise, there were no restrictions as such. Recently, I learnt they follow taboo culture very strictly, and I guess that is mainly because they have learnt a new means to make extra bucks from visitors.
    In 80s, we had climbed Rasol Pass from Kasol and decended on the other side into Malana Valley. Rasol village on the way was one more such village which also had similar practice, but tourists hardly go there because it is situated on the edge of mountain slope and relatiely difficult to climb up. For Malana, it is now very easy to reach from Jari via road upto recently constructed power generation station but Rasol still remains out of easy reach.

    Regarding the trash.... when you eat coconut, shellfish, fruit, most natural food comes in its own natural packaging, which, when discarded the 'packaging' becomes food for something else and biodegrades. This habit has continued and now the synthetic packaging replaces the fruit skin.

    Charas is not Hashish. Charas is made by hand rubbing the resin (tricromes) off the flowers of living plants while hashish is made by drying the flowers then breaking them apart and shaking the tricromes off through a fine cloth, This leaves the plant material seperate from the resin. The clean resin can then be hot or cold pressed. Hot pressing fuses the resin globules together and seals the outside of the product making it more plyable and less prone to drying out
    If there was a global legal trade in Hashish, Charas would not be allowed because of impurities from peoples sweat and other unwanted materials from production.

      acts 2
      36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
      37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
      41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
      44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

    The not touching the outsiders part could be from the idea that outsiders bring all kinds of diseases. Like for example, what happened to all the Indigenous People in the Americas when the Europeans reached there. And then of course the culture and the people were completely massacred.
    And secondly theres so much trash because, Indians (especially the ones living in rural areas and in nature,) grew up with natural things only. Like the food would be wrapped in banana leaves or some other edible leaves. The little plates and containers would also be made of leaves and other natural material. So the idea was use it and it would then become part of nature. We didn't have some chips sold in Plastic packets. We didn't have drinking water sold in Plastic bottles. We didn't have the absolute poisonous Coca cola sold in Plastic or glass bottles. The cups and utensils were made of Terracotta. So if it broke, it just became part of the earth. No paper cups or plastic cups. This absolute Trash mainly is a product of the west. Western trash. Capitalism. Which has actually ruined the entire world.
