I am not a musician, I'm not a musical expert, I'm a huge fan and I just want to share my experience. I grew up watching Depeche Mode videos, I wished so badly that I could someday go to one of their concerts, I watched the Devotional tour and the tour of the masses videos so many times on TV and I finally got to see them in November 2023. From the beginning of the concert with My Cosmos is Mine I went into a trance, I remember all my interactions with the people around me but I remember only bits and pieces of the concert. I completely lost it during Martin's set, I remember seeing him and my heart dropping and then I felt like I was floating, I remember the beginning of Strange Love and A Question of Lust I don't remember anything else but on the video on my phone you can see how badly I'm shaking and I hear myself half screaming and trying to sing but just a complete out of body experience, completely hypnotized. It took me weeks to recover, I still get chills when I listen to A Question of Lust or any song sung by Martin, yes I have had a big crush on him but still I have never, ever, ever, ever experienced this with any other band.
Thank you Vaughn for your videos. Yes it may be their last tour but I hope it isn't. Best wishes to you.

I see them in Budapest near the end of the tour and it wasn't until after the gig that I realised it wasn't played.
It was played in Birmingham at the beginning of the second European leg and since found out it was dropped quite late into the leg after the first Madrid gig.
All I will add, really enjoyed the tour this time after the very lacklustre Spirit tour, which by the time I see them in Poland in 2018, was boring.

This is the first tour that I've missed since Songs of Faith and Devotion. I've in the last 5 years lost a significant amount of vision so I can't just get up and go to a concert and couldn't find anyone willing to lock down a definite yes to go with me. I'm absolutely heart broken that I couldn't go to any of the shows here in California or some of the last few in Europe (I was visiting my best friend in the Netherlands during all of March). Their shows have always meant so much to me and missing them this time around has not only gutted me, but has also shown me how much my "normal" life has changed and how much my reliance on others has increased. It's depressing as hell, but on the bright side, I have memories of all the other shows, DVDs of them, live albums and of course UA-cam shows. I'm like 99% sure they aren't done and I hope with all my little fan boy heart that I'll get to "see" them again 🤞. Thanks for your wrap up of your experiences of their shows and I definitely look forward to what you've got coming up and as always... What the boys have coming in the future... Solo and otherwise 🤘😎👍

VG, you are wrong, because every concert promoting an album started with the first song from a given album, so in this case, Memento Mori had to start with the song "My cosmos is my", because it is the first song on the album.

Ok so I'm a 17y.o. and I've been enjoying the DM music for a while now, I mean i first heard the entire singles compilations when I was what, like 3 years old in my father's car? He's a part of the generation that was discovering Depeche Mode in the post-soviet countries in the 1990s, and me I grew up fascinated with the music that he had on his imported cd's: DM, The Cure, Sting, etc. Due to some circumstances, he wasn't able to leave the country and attend any of the shows, but he gave me the chance to go to Berlin and see them live.. what an experience.. like even considering that the sound of Behind the Wheel isn't quite the same, to have a chance to hear my favourite song of all time live is just.. something extraordinary

Love that you are taking the time for the new channel! I went to four shows this time, the most I have ever done, and it wasn't enough as I am feeling "Memento Mori" more than ever these days.
Agree with you: I don't dislike the songs from PtA (in fact I love that album), but I can do without the songs being done live, over and over again.
I may be one of the only people who loves Cosmos, and I prefer it over People are Good. But I do think that would have been a good change up later in the tour, and definitely has a more optimistic tone.
I was happy to get Strangelove, but would have preferred to hear But Not Tonight (which I have never heard live). I was grateful for Soul with Me, Question of Lust, and I died when I got Home at my last show. Being a Martin girl, we were disappointed in Edmonton as we only got one Martin song.
I was also at the Vegas show where Dave sang Happy Birthday, and told people to put their "f*cking phones away" or something along those lines. What a fantastic time that was.
Been suffering post-tour depression since December! I was so envious of the European audiences, especially the ones who got Before we Drown.

Great summary! Agree with most of it, I went to 4 shows different legs; and one highlight was black celebration, that intro and the drums was awesome, much better than the downbeat version from the past tours, also the new songs were great to hear live, the album is becoming better as time goes by. Set list could have been better; to me none negotiable songs are People are People, Photographic, Shake the disease, Blasphemous rumors all electronic versions, not the a capella crap, without these songs it is not the Depeche I grew up loving, and would have been nice to hear some other old songs as well.

I personally do not like Wrong, but loooove BC :) And that was the time when Dave said "Thank you, that's for Alan". And I agree about the drumming - it's too much for me, but still way better than on the previous tour.

And if they'd have wanted to get the fans going, perhaps do an abbreviated Cosmos mashed into Pimpf to open.

I believe it was stated by Dave (can't find the link at the moment) that
    1. This was going to be their biggest tour
    2. There were plans for Asia and Australia concerts
Neither happened. Global Spirit Tour had about 20 more concerts than Memento Mori and they did not play Asia or Australia.
Thankfully, I saw them live this tour, BUT in general, they should not speak unless they are 100% certain.
These kind of statements can cost fans a lot of money and most fans dont "work" only 2 hours every other day every 4 years.
On the positive side, they sounded incredibly good, and Dave really moved around putting in the effort.

DM setlists are always frustrating because there are so many excellent tracks that it would take 5 hours to perform all of them ( but let’s not forget all the strength Dave deploys for 2 hours, we can not ask him for more)
I was at Paris show on March 3, it was great, we had happy birthday to Christian but we unfortunately didn’t have World in my eyes and I would have preferred to have Waiting for the night instead of Condemnation (they played Waiting for the night at the second Parisian show)
Vaughn, I fully agree with you about Photographic and I would not be upset if they didn’t play Just can’t get enough
Anyway this will remain a great memory

I've been a fan since 1986 and have seen them on every tour starting with MFTM. I was able to see them three times on this tour. I live in Sacramento, Ca...and they opened up here. So, I saw them in Sacramento, Las Vegas and San Diego. Overall, the tour was fantastic. While their shows are dynamic, their setlist historically isn't. My gripes are the same as yours... APTIUT needed to be dropped almost immediately. I was hoping for an extending version of Ghosts Again...maybe a remixed version...but no, we got the album version. Everything Counts was the same version as the Spirits version. But very thankful that they toured and that I was able to see them.

I was fortunate enough to see 7 shows on this tour.
I walked away from that first night in Sacramento thinking the set list was too retrospective.
By the time I saw them again 6 months later in Orlando, the show was dialed in and Martin and Dave seemed to be enjoying themselves.
3 months later I saw them in San Diego and Los Angeles. Major set list changes and the show now had the tone of a greatest hits/farewell tour.
I walked out of the last LA convinced I had seen DM for the last time.
    Now to the set list.
I can’t remember the last time a DM tour set list featured at least one song from so many albums. By the time the tour ended only A Broken Frame, Exciter and Spirt failed to have a song performed on this tour.
I agree with VG that the arrangements are beyond stale. While the “non negotiable” songs pretty much can’t be touched, DM seems content to just keep playing the same back catalogue songs every tour with what seems to be the same arrangements from 1998’s Singles Tour.
Songs such as I Feel Loved, When The Body Speaks from Exciter, Soothe My Soul and Should Be Higher from Delta Machine would have fit perfectly into this setlist.
I feel that they play it safe with the live show now.

I have loved DM since I was very young, and I have seen them as a band in concert 8 times, and once for Dave’s Paper Monsters tour. I have never seen a bad show. They are amazing live! I do think Dave is tied with Freddie Mercury for the best front man of all time. I grew up with very little money so being able to save for tickets and any merch was difficult but so worth it. Even though they were crumbling as a band during SOFAD neither of the shows I saw showed any of the behind the scenes turmoil. We did notice Dave was far too thin, and guessed something was wrong, but he did not miss a step at either of the shows. Which knowing what we know now is awe inspiring. This may sound dumb, but I cry at every show and feel so privileged to see them. Because I always remember that Michael Hutchence, the lead singer of INXS, died under some similar circumstances the year after Dave’s overdose, and his temporary death and was revived. With every album and at every concert, I think if they had not revived Dave we would have been deprived of him and the bands music for many years. With Fletch’s passing it sank home even more, that one day, we will not have the privilege of hearing anything new or seeing them live again. So, I cherish every moment. Additionally, I had a very serious health issue two years ago. There were many moments we actually thought I might die. I lost my job, and then a family member’s health issue got much worse, and now I take care of them full time. It has been a long recovery for me, and when the tickets for this concert went on sale, I was not sure if I would be able to afford it, but we worked it out so I could buy a ticket. However, we were still not sure if I would be healthy enough to attend. I pushed hard to strengthen myself, and even up to the week of the concert, we were still not sure. So, when I walked into that arena my heart was full, and when Dave’s vocals rang out, I cannot express the joy I felt at being able to be there! Honestly, it was amazing as always. Dave has maybe lost a step or two, but I could not believe the effort he put in at his age. Dave is more than 16 years older than me, and I was exhausted halfway through. That man is the energizer bunny. Marty, was awesome as always, and I consider Peter and Christian as full members of the band. I can understand why Vaughn and others might take issue with certain parts of the songs, and performances, I have no issue with those opinions. However, most of it does not bother me. I actually think John the Revelator is great live, but I would not object to them switching it up. I thought I would not like Marty’s Strange Love, but it was kind of fun. I do think that if they felt they must include My Cosmos is Mine, that doing it first was the better idea. That way they started out slow, and built up. I think if they had put that song anywhere else in the set list it would have dragged the pace way down. I would not have cared if they left it out though, it is an okay track, but it is definitely a so-so song on this album. My only real beef is that they did not play my top favorite song Always You, and my second favorite Don’t Say You Love Me. I have listened to Always you at least 1000 times. I think it is one of my favorites of all time. I feel like it blends their old sound and new sound perfectly. The drums, the ethereal sounds, Dave’s vocals, perfection! I have not heard of it being sung anywhere live. I will say I am thankful that they did not sing Carolyn’s Monkey. I am not entirely sure why, but it just rubs me the wrong way. I feel like their encore set, was astounding. I mean, I was so tired, and was in the stands. I have no idea how in their 60s, they rocked as hard as they did, then took a quick break, and then came back even stronger. Waiting For The Night was so up close and personal, and haunting, even at the back of our huge arena. Marty and Dave’s hug at the end was so touching. It felt like two brother’s clinging to each other for support after years of going through so many ups and downs in their lives, and that they were aware they had lost one brother, Alan, due to mistakes on everybody’s part, and another brother, Fletch, to death. I will also say that Vaughn is correct, Fletch’s absence was noticeable, and I loved how they did the tribute to him, and then when into Black Celebration. After Waiting For The Night. It was a guess as to which of the “non-negotiable” songs they would do. For some reason I did not expect Just Can’t Get Enough. It was a nice call back. I have seen Never Let Me Down at every concert I have been to, and it is so cool and never gets old. When all of the hands start waving and the lights go up, you think “does it get any better than this”! I had some new people near me, and it was so fun to see them watch it and participate in it for the first time. The hand waves always remind me of the wind blowing through A Broken Frame, the wheat/corn field Brian photographed for that cover, the wheat or corn field they run through in It’s Called A Heart and in Never Let Me Down, and the blowing Violator Rose at the end of the Clean video. So, much nostalgia. Just when you think “I can’t take anymore”, and I don’t think they can take anymore. Personal Jesus kicks in, and you can feel it in your bones. You cannot help but jump and scream and dance. I would swear the bass sound and stomping of the fans could rock the building right off of its very solid foundation. You want to “reach out and touch faith” (or reach out and touch Dave, depending on your preferences 😉) all night long. It was unforgettable! It is always sad to see them bow and leave on such a high. Again, I don’t know how they keep it up every other night. I do think they are doing more simple set ups and performances, because they are getting tired. I think the changes to things are part of that. I think Dave and Martin are trying to protect their voices and their health. Hence Dave singing an octave lower, etc. From the moment the album and then the tour was announced I was pretty sure that this would be their last tour. I felt it in my gut. Even though they put on many fantastic shows this tour, I think it took a greater toll on all them than ever before. They are in their early 60s, they have had major health issues, they have lost Andy, and I think this might be it. The next tour would put them in their mid to late 60s. I think the strain might just be too much. I know The Rolling Stones and a few others do it, but it is only a few of them. I think Vaughn might be right that Dave will move into the Soul Savers stuff, and slow down. I think Marty might do a gig here and there, but again I think he will slow down as well. I hope I am wrong. I would love to see them again. I would probably go with a walker if they were still performing in 20 or more years. I always love your insets Vaughn, and I would never want you to lie or curb your opinions. We have come to trust what you say because we know you are sincere. If people don’t like it, they can ignore it, or move on.

I was there in 5 gigs in this tour : Antwerpen, Budapest, Bilbao, Barcelona, Primavera Sound and I agree with you. For me there are 3 songs not to be played : it's no good ( once again , always... too boring ) , a paint that I'm..., strangelove Martin version. And why not again ? sister of night , photographic (as you said), Wrong very nice in Budapest I think, a question of time.
They performed great, outstanding, I'm sure better than the last Spirit Tour. However, once I missed, It was a reversion of some songs, some changes in the intros or in the rhythm. Too similar version songs during the last tours, maybe a little lazy trying to improve new sounds intros.

I attended two concercts in germany, the last one in cologne included. I have kept Depeche Mode in my heart for 20 years at least now. I am 34 and was mentally not able to attend a concerct earlier in my life. I really hope for one last tour and I am optimistic they will eventually decide towards it. For the last concerct I can just tell you, that it didn't feel like goodbye or a last show of a megaband like depeche mode. Of course, Dave spoke to the audience for about 2 minutes, which is kinda unusual, but since it was the last concert, it adds up fine. Dave spoke out his gratitude for the years of support. Sure, he also mentioned, that they needed to decide to carry on as Fletch passed. But they did so. Therefore I did not experienced it at as a final goodbye. However, I don't know how Martin and Dave, of course very individual personalities, feel about a real "goodybe tour". If they don't like it to be melancholic in any way, they would be doing good with just stopping now. But like I said, for me, personally, I lacked to see the signs of them quitting for good.

It sounded really good but I can’t help but imagine how much better the songs would be with Alan . Everyone should listen to the Violator demos and then listen to the final product. Alan made it so much better. Sometimes I wonder if he was ostracized for being the only classically trained musician.
