    I just added a pair of apistogramma macmasteri to my 50 gallon community tank. Very tempted to set up a breeding tank for them as they seem to be rather fond of each other. Thanks for the info!

    An operating nurse breeding and raising Apistogramma's (in the basement) and putting it on UA-cam just sounds funny, i don't know why. But you're doing 2 great jobs !

    Good video. Though to avoid pair or trio failure, you can just add some dithers (aka target fish) like poecilia spp., pencilfish, black neons, etc. Small fish that will not threaten the fry

      I tried dithers made no difference in fact the male hated them and always chased them away.so removed them.

    • @AquaticMaster
      @AquaticMaster Рік тому +1

      @@tinadoyle3803 they're supposed to hate them. Dithers (for breeding) are supposed to avert aggression from the mating partners towards the dither. Though if dithers are distracting too much that can certainly be a problem; I've only seen that issue with smaller aquaria but each fish is different.
      Did you find the dithers were adding too much stress to the male and distracting from courtship behaviors?

    Thanks for the informative video! Lots of breeding topics covered. I've got a female who is always black/yellow colored, so it's a little hard to tell if she's got a clutch of eggs. My other females color up just like your female shown. Can't wait to see your 6' tank. I'm thinking of doing some homemade 10 gallon long tanks for a rack I've got in the garage.

    If I can give advice, try vinager eels instead of micro worms. Almost impossible to crash, easy to gather (you can use a dropper with aquarium water and put a bit under the tip into the vinager). After like 30min or so, it will be filled with the eels. Then just release it inside the tank.
    One of the biggest advantages is the fact that they can be alive for days and weeks inside the tank before they die. They will be eaten long before that happen. They also swim all over the place, instead of just sink to the bottom.

    • @cleveraqua8507
      @cleveraqua8507 3 роки тому

    Hi
    My male has been hiding in the pot that I put in there for like 2-3days alrdy while the female swims around the whole tank.
    My tank only consists of 1 horn snail and 1male n female pisto.
    Any idea why my male is behaving this way??
    Pls advise!

    • @1deaver

      what type of apisto?sometimes if a pair aren't into each other forming a true pair then they become territorial towards the other fish. hense the male may be getting picked on by the female. I've had this happen recently with my aggazzii pair they bond, I think they're gonna spawn and only few a later they start a cycle of taking turns hiding. evenly I expect them to work it out. so my suggestions for you would be to try the the following. my first suggestion is a mirror in the tank to ignite the bond .or u can adding obstacles like more hiding spaces, ie caves and decorations/plants that reduce the line of sight. or u can get a breeder box and place the least timid fish in it with a small cave and some java fern. feed the female well where ever she is placed, live foods if you can got them. slowly remove the Java moss as the fish gets more comfortable in the breeding box. even simple the time away from each other can help reignite a bond. good luck and remember to sub and thumbs up. cheers

      +1deaver thks for the advise the male hides in the pot that i put in the tank.
      The tank is a planted tank.
      The male stays in the cave longer than the female.
      The female usually swims around the tank while the male is in the pot.
      The male only comes out sometimes.
      The female doesn't really peak on the male.
      There are the orange Colored ones pisto not really knw what kind but it is like double red but is orange.

    • @1deaver
      @1deaver  8 років тому

      +Monkey.D.Luffy Mugriwara definitely get a small mirror. either place it in the tank or even outside, as long as they can see it. but inside is best. I'm getting the impression they are not aggressive to each other. also that they are orange flash apistogramma cacatuoides but that's just based on your description and that they r very common. it also be possible u have 2 of the same sex.

    • @1deaver
      @1deaver  9 років тому +1

      you have a good while yet. 1st off get yourself some microworms way easier than brineshrimps. i start with fakes just as the majority of fry start to look more apisto-like. just a very little, don't allow it to float. do this 10 mins to 30mins before you give your live food. as u notice theyre starting to eat the flakes decrease the live food, till u no longer need it, then just now and as treats or fr he smaller frys.
