BAND-MAID A band with many different charms, all songs in the 9-point range. And don't forget to say that for me, a song that was in the 7-point range at first will rise to 9-point range after 10 listens. ★They are still changing and evolving.

Perfect example of how Band Maid makes songs unique and great. Kanami could just easily strum chords with Miku during the verses and it would still be a good song. But she doesn’t! Instead, she does these extended blazing leads throughout that completely elevate the musicality of the composition and is so much more enjoyable for the listener.💪🏻🤘🏻

So much detail in the Band My-ko version. Dialect: they translated the words to the dialect specific to the Maiko culture of Kyoto, and dressed appropriately. They even gave specific Geisha apprentice names, Po!

Thanks BG. If you go back and listen to Band-Maiko (you are saying it right; a Maiko is an apprentice Geisha fyi) you will hear all the subtle traditional Japanese instruments that really make it unique.
Also notice the different Japanese dialect. Pretty cool

I believe this is studio audio over a live performance. If you get a chance to check out the live version from the 2017 Shinkiba concert it is well worth it, slightly heavier mainly due to some extra crunch from Miku and a bit more oomph from Misa, also it was the penultimate song so they seemed to be really going for it. Non Fiction Days that followed they really were all in.
I will second this. Heck I'd love it if BG would take about 90 minutes and do the whole concert itself. I think his hat would catch on fire though if he did that.

Another great band from Japan is Glim Spanky. They do a cover of Janis Joplin’s ‘Move Over’ that is freakin’ amazing.
This is the studio version over a live performance taken from their concert at Akasaka Blitz when they were promoting their Just Bring It album. There is a 36 minute video of songs taken from the same concert floating around. A LOT of Band-Maid's sound is the interplay between MISA and Akane coupled with Kanami's guitar. Since Miku didn't play guitar when the band started MISA's bass licks were used to help fill in the music, and have become the Ladies "Signature", especially when you add in how tight Kanami and Akane are to what MISA plays. Since Miku doesn't just play Rhythm, but also does a LOT of singing, there are times where her playing gets "Simple" and easy for her to play while she takes care of her vocal duties. Sometimes while singing she won't even be playing, so MISA fills in the sound. THAT is the Band-Maid Sound.
Akasaka Blitz is also where LOVEBITES recorded their "Daughters of the Dawn" and where Babymetal performed the Red, Black, and Gold Fox Festivals. Unfortunately, that venue is now closed.
They can even make the same song twice and make people like them both,
And Akane went totally primate shit on that song!

I listen to a TON of j-rock and Band-Maid is in my personal top 3 along with Girugamesh and ONEOKROCK. Also if you're into anime they did openings for Log Horizon and Platinum End, as well as an ending for YU-GI-OH! Vrains and they all slap just as hard as this. 🤘

This video is always weird to me, since it’s the studio audio and concert video. It makes it feel “off” to me. Great song, and it is great when actually performed live, but to mix the 2 is an odd choice. Don’t know what you mean about the Band Maiko version, though… it rocks just as hard, only with some extra traditional elements mixed in.
Yes, it was wrong. Maiko (MY-CO), not Mako. A Mako is a type of shark, not an apprentice Geisha. Hence the Play-On-Words. 'Secret My Lips' becomes 'Secret Maiko Lips'. Perhaps you were a little too smoked out to catch that one.
Perhaps 🤷♂️😈 I also don’t speak Japanese either 🤣
