- Chanel denied Bethenny Frankel entry!? What's going on here? Today I'm giving my reaction as a Chicago Luxury Shopper and what could have actually happened. In any case, no one ever feels good when they're denied entry to something, so I understand where she's coming from in this case.

This year I'd love to add more pieces from Hermès like the Birkin size 40, Constance, 24/24 and Bolide. Maybe I'll be bad and get an Hermès Kelly 40! What’s your take on the situation? Have you ever been denied entry to a luxury store?
I wonder if something was left out cause we only know her side of the story but regardless it was good entertainment on TT.
It’s never fun to be denied at these stores so I totally understand the frustration.

Not being able to go into store an hour before closing ...is denying entry. No excuses.
I feel like the whole thing could have been avoided if the person at the door had just said “sorry, we’re booked with appointments for the rest of the day”. Just shutting the door in someone’s face leaves room for this exact kind of speculation.
She’s not wrong about the staffing, tho. I feel the same way about Target when they try to justify scaling back on Pride stuff for “security reasons.” You’re Target. Just spend some of your Target money on more security then. Chanel can clearly afford to do the same.
U clearly haven't seen the smash and grab videos at these luxury stores
These storss can only up security so much, these thugs are Higly organized and hit the stores up in large groups. I seen videos of thiefs driving a car tru the front door of a business
More and more stores are limiting the amount of people they allow in. As for the appointments, she didn’t have one and yes it sucks and he could have said, "entry by appt only, sorry." Still, who cares! It’s not enough to do a TikTok. Bethany loves whining and she probably thought she would receive special treatment and that’s what really has her arse itching. Not that I blame her, but I don’t blame Chanel either. No one died. 😂
I've been in plenty of high end designer stores and have treated me and my husband, friends great and we've gone in dress very casually and they're very friendly to us

Being a peasant i dress like a peasant and was treated like a princess at that store. Do you have an appointment is not the same as you cant come in.
I mean I agree with Bethenny. She’s a Chanel Client who spends a lot of money there through out the year. She has every right to walk in when ever she wants. Also if the store closes at 6 and they aren’t allowing me in 3:54pm I’d have a major problem with that still 2 full hours of shopping and for SA’s to make a sale.

It would be upsetting to not be in. The person at the door could have handled it better. Sometimes you can’t get in, but if handled, correctly it can be a lot less negative. True customer service is a dying art.

I’m a Chanel lover and I’m in the boutique often. I won’t lie, sometimes I feel like people just get out of the bed and decide to go shop luxury. I don’t get it, but you do you. And, they still receive a good service in the boutique. I never heard an employee telling them to go home.

My thoughts are maybe a vip client was in the store shopping and they were not letting the public in at that moment. You are correct, security is hired by a third party. I do not think Bethany was rejected due to her attire. 😊 I used to go into LV after work in my scrubs all the time and was treated extremely well, never mattered how I dressed.

She got there at 4pm and they close at 6pm, 2hrs? To me that's plenty of time for a person to look around and get what they need. Ridiculous......
What if there were other customers in there already and all SA’s busy and they had all appt’s filled up till 6 pm??

Thanks for catching us up to speed on this, Caleb. Feelings like Bethany came in super entitled to begin with. She’s not THAT recognizable even if she is wealthy. That security guard didn’t care who she was - he was just told not to let anyone in. Boutiques have been doing “appointment only” days mid-week these days, post COVID. Appointments are the best way to guarantee entry; which is why you need to have an SA. Chanel guest services is one call away, they can schedule for you.
I will say, you mentioned being “profiled” - white people can’t be profiled. That is a myth. Racial profiling/profiling is a component of systemic oppression. As anti-racist work defines; reverse racism does not exist. While your being followed in the store could’ve been something else- it can’t be profiling. To anyone disagreeing, do the research.
You made some great points regarding Bethenny. And as far as misusing the term "I kind of felt profiled." What word would you have used?

I know when the stores opened back after the height of the pandemic u had to have an appointment.... or they would give u time to come back..... not now tho....weird...and I'm always very casual when shopping...

I'm an European, so it is all very bizzare to me. Is it normal in U.S. not to allow customers to the shops??

I live in Chicago and that Chanel is fantastic. I’ve been to Chanel in many cities all over the world, and maybe other than Vegas, this one is the friendliest and nicest. Sometimes there is a line, in which case, I usually will not wait and just come another day. I’ve heard there was a VIP private event that night, hence why she was turned away. It was not personal nor did it have to do with her clothing. They were just prepping for the event!
I will also say that this Chicago store went above and beyond for me one time. I went about 5-6 years ago there with my vintage 1997 jumbo with gold plating inquiring if I could get the cc lock fixed as it had popped off when I snagged it. Totally my fault! I had heard that getting repairs at luxury stores was awful and often included sending to Paris waiting for months and sometimes outright refusal to fix. However, the gushed at how beautiful my bag was and said the repair guy was actually there today and could take a look as vintage is hard to repair. He took a look and said he’ll see what he can do and that they’d call me later to let me know if it would need to go to Paris. Lo and behold, 2 days later they called saying it was fixed and I could come pick up. When I arrived they didn’t even charge me and gave me a Chanel dust bag since I didn’t have one. I was amazed!
Another time I was in there and a mom was in there with her little girl running around and her small dog who peed on the floor. I thought the customers were extremely inconsiderate but the SA was polite and said no worries & cleaned it right up.
I honestly think this Bethany story is blown out of proportion. Oh yeah: one last thing, my husband is in law enforcement and he says LV, Gucci and Chanel hire off duty Chicago police to work security. So you are correct! They are not direct employees.
Very interesting. The customers in the luxury boutiques, especially at H., do dress up when they go into the shop. They make sure to wear H. products. Nowhere else do I see people wearing H. products. This is not necessary if you are known as a customer in the shop - also at the door. Otherwise, it definitely helps. 😉
Yes! Oprah wanted to buy an LV bag in Italy and was also treated like crap. She talked about it on UA-cam

Every privately owned store has the right to deny service to anyone at any time. There is no requirement to give a reason.
