Very nice Maria, The Arches 400 rough looks very enjoyable to paint on. For me I think neutral tint is a great addition to watercolor paint, it looks great on the feathers. PS I always get a kick out of seeing what tape you will be using to tape down the paper. Take care, and thank you for all the wonderful tutorials and your time. ❣️
Hi Essie☺️💕thank you so much!! yes, rough 300lb or 400lb have been my favorites for a while now... love the texture and the thickness of the paper😀and lol for the tape haha you just reminded me I need to order more☺️

sorry MARIA i m late i was in great problem that's why i didn't see but when i see today it's gorgeous, amazing, wonderful, beautiful, creative ,and of course in hindi we say kamal dhamal
Oh yes I usually always use arches too which I love but I was just doing an experiment. They have these new boards for watercolor called Aquabord:. They r like those panels people use for acrylic paint which is what they remind me of. You wouldn’t have to use glass when you frame your picture. Look them up on google. Anyway, I’d been looking at Daniel smith grounds u. Paint on canvas so u can watercolor on it and came across these so was just giving it a try. Wanted to let u all know what my feelings were about them. Definitely would turn out much better with the paper you suggested and think I might do it over on that because I really love that picture.
Hi :) thank you for sharing all this info. I have tried wooden boards before, they were specially "grounded" for watercolors.. it's interesting... because the water doesn't really have a way to absorb in it, you can definitely paint but more in an acrylic style because you just can't use much water. I have done quite few paintings like that few years back when I first started. I am curious about the grounds you are talking about.. it would be fun to experiment again ;))) thank you so much.
Yes it seems to work well if you paint like acrylic style but then I figure I might as well just paint acrylic, but I’m gonna try the canvas I painted with Daniel Smith Ground for watercolor. Let you know what I find out!
Great work, it looks so beautiful Maria ! Thanks for uploading your work so frequently and all of them look great 👍 By the way do you have all the colours from Holbein ? And is that palette you used while painting the stork(yellow ochre and gold) from Holbein ?
Hi Celes :) Thank you so much☺️I have almost all Holbein's watercolors, I am missing maybe 8 colors from the entire selection ;o)😄and yes, all colors including Yellow Ochre and Gold are by Holbein as well!🤗
Wow again, Maria!! Just out of curiosity, when you use the white gouache for your highlights do you dilute it with water or do you use it "straight out of the tube"? Keep up the great work!!
Thank you Kevin :) always dilute it with water otherwise it's too dry/thick... it's like your regular watercolor but instead of being transparent, gouache is opaque :)
I just did this on one of those boards for watercolor. Boy was that different! Didn’t like it at all....not like paper. Doesn’t want to soak in or flow. Started to learn how to work with it toward the end but don’t know if I would do it again. Easy to wipe off though!
Hi :) what paper did you use? I pretty much only paint on Arches, this one was Arches Rough 400lb, was it Arches as well? it does take practice and you need to wait for the layers to dry in between, the paper is also thirsty because it's thick :)
amazing painting .. I love all your works .. keep on !

I love your work, question for you, Holbein neutral is that equivalent to Paynes gray or something else?
Thank you so much Donna🌸🌸🌸and yes! It's a dark grayish color very similar to Payne's Gray, although it has a different shade.
