  • A bit on fine drafting for lace to fingering weight at a consistent thickness. I have been working on making fingering weight yarn for my antique sock knitting machine. The goal is to make a fine suitable yarn so I can make some socks with my machine with my own spun yarn. I think I have it down and I will test some shortly on my machine. I had found a nice little video on how to spin a consistent size and how to change the size either thicker or thinner. I gave it a spin and it works. I like learning new techniques that help my spinning. Check it out if you have not done so already. She is using the drop spindle but the method works even on the wheel. • Drafting: achieving co...

Hi, thanks for this, really enjoyed the tips and commentary. ARe you going to ply this or use it as a singke on the sock machine? Can I ask what you are spinning is that from hand carded rolag? Thanks for this :- (I have a sock machine too, but haven't used hand spun on it yet!

Im thinking I was using combed top for this video. Hard to tell. I do both combed top and carded wool from the hand carder.

@@abittwisted Thanks! For your sock machine are you using singles? I may try this if I get enough yarn spun soon!

@@anepictree No singles unless you set your twist first so it won't wrinkle up. I used unset singles and it wanted to twist and wrinkle up and it was not easy. Frankly Im not liking the finicky sock machine. Im considering selling mine. I have so much other stuff to do besides trying to fight this darn machine. My thin two ply worked fine. Thread needs to be thin. I even have the large opening hooks too and they were too small on some of my thin (or so I thought) two ply.

@@abittwisted Thanks! Yes I now what you mean about the CSM, it is a steep learning curve, I have had mine a year nw and am just getting comfortable with it, it does take a lot of work but it does pay off in the long run! I guess it depends on priorities and other projects too.. I'm having fun being able to spend some time spinning at the moment and am enjoying getting better at that! Thanks for the information and the videos. Regards - Peter

What kind of WPI gauge do you use? Do you have a link where to get it or did you make it yourself? :)
