Zhongruan Rock was written in 1993. The piece combines the slow strumming of the zhongruan with intense hard rock to bring out the skills of a zhongruan expert. The striking contrast between the simple and complicated tempos is the most distinctive feature of this piece. Together with its accompaniments, the zhongruan player simulates the tempo unique to traditional Chinese opera, allowing the audience to experience the different speeds and intensities of the combination of different parts.
“Dew on plants as clear as the moon, moving ever so slightly in the morning mist.” White Dew, the fifteenth solar term of the 24 solar terms that marks the change of temperature as it becomes colder in autumn. “Moisture in the air condenses into dew. Autumn is the season of metal, and metal is described as white, which is also the color of dew. It is a time when the temperature begins to drop.” As the cold winds blow and the autumnal mood thickens, let’s warm up with the colorful traditional Chinese music and enjoy the beautiful White Dew.
