The Problem is their Midfield and their offensive playstyle in general. Kimmich Gündogan, Goretzka, Musiala, Wirtz and all their wing backs think offensive. There is always so much space between the Midfield and the Defenders, thats what makes the Center Backs look so weak... Hummels has always been that slow, but back in the Day he had Schweinsteiger, Kroos and Khedira infront of them. Only one of Goretzka, Gündogan and Kimmich should play. They are all the same type of Player. Bayern has the same Issues, thats why Tuchel wants a real number 6.
Germany looked way better with Groß behind Gündogan.Other than that there is only Emre Can with Class, but hes way too inconsistent. They need to change their Style if they want to succeed. On Paper they still have an Elite Level Squad. Kimmich needs to start as a Right Back and Henrichs on the left!!

Yeah, for the first time in almost 50 years Austria fields a side, that has both quality, motivation and a manager that effectively introduced the playstyle most Austrian players grew up with in the past 12 years through Red Bull into the league. Alaba is a once every few generations player for Austria, Arnautovic is a mad lad who still is great and apart from the two the rest of the team are mostly solid above average players in their respective clubs (of whom many are in top leagues). That is an outstanding generation for Austria, a team that is solid B tier in Europe and can challenge one of the big ones on a good day and beat them when the other team has a bad day. And they have had the experience of how not to play at a big tournament twice now. Maybe they can surprise at next years Euro, upset the odds in a knock out game or two.

As a mexican , I can´t understand the Germany crisis .In 2014 they looked so invincible with a powerful generation that could go for 2018 and so on, with names like Howedes, Schurrle, Gotze and even Kroos, It's a crisis that's been around for the last 5 years. I think their first big mistake in the last 6 years came from Low, refreshing the team so early. That generation of 2014 could have supported at least 4 more years. I really hope they resurface in the future , as well as Italy. It's a shame that both teams have not been able to be in the top anymore for the last 6 years. I'm really having a hard time watching international soccer with this fad of Messi era.
Holding that 2014 generation for 4 more years isn't really sustainable though. The old guard like Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker, and Khedira would be already in their twilight at that time. Players like Ozil was also falling out of favor since early 2010s. Gotze was also injured a lot since that 2014 season that could cost the team in tournaments where fitness is very crucial.
If you take a look at the last World Cup, it's quite obvious that aging legs, especially at the midfield would be a detriment to the team. Even the hard-working midfield like Modric got swallowed by Argentina's youthful midfield and put into stalemate by Japan.
The real problem with them is probably more on how they play and the lack of quality in the backrow players and CF. Their flanks are exceptionally weak on the defensive side.

Germany’s defence system gone with winds since a long time. It was one of their strong factors. Now it is an obvious weakness.
The biggest problem is the construction phase and pass play. It still looks better now than it did in the Flick era. But in the matches with USA and Mexico, Gündogan played much higher and the link-up play went way better. Now in these two matches, they played with two number 6s like they did with Flick. It just doesn't work. Gündogan was completely absent. And if you want to play with two number 6s, play with Groß and Andrich. It's so stupid because they have such good midfield options with Musiala, Wirtz, Gündogan, Havertz, Groß, Andrich, but they still struggle. And I don't understand why would you play Gnabry over Hofmann, when Gnabry barely played in the last months, and Hofmann is in top form. The attack is not the problem, Füllkrug has 10 goals in 13 games for die Mannschaft. But I can't say the same thing about the defence, the situation is bad there. All in all, I watched both games and I can't say that either Turkiye or Austria played well, it's just that die Mannschaft has no chemistry, it's easy to play them. Sané should check his ego.
Those of you who criticise Nagelsmann for putting Havertz at left back have no football knowledge whatsoever, sad haters. But as Nagelsmann said, no point in being pessimistic, let's hope they'll figure it out. If not, it's not the end of the world, stop being so dramatic.

I am really baffled, as Germany Mannschaft's tactics seem to be the same, regardless of who the coach is! I think Hummels, Tah are rather slow for today's international football, while Rudiger shows shocking concentration lapses from time to time. Even if there are no better defenders in Germany at the moment, the coach should change the system to rectify these problems; having at least a dedicated defensive midfielder, with good mobility, in front of the back line would help compensate for the lack of speed and concentration. Germany has enough offensive midfielders and forwards and now with Fullkrug a decent striker to create chances and score goals. Games within the last 2 years have shown Germany struggling to score against teams that have good organization and defend in numbers (compress the space in front of their goal). Some of these teams (such as Japan) have quick and skillful forwards that could cause big problems for Germany; often with just one outlet pass to these quick forwards and the ball is in the Germany net. I wonder if the DFB is partly the problem here, as it decides all Germany teams (including the U-17, U-19, U-21 to the national team) to play attacking football. Shouldn't there be diversity in the playing styles, and Bundesliga teams be allowed to have their own systems, that suit their players? In this case, teams would look for and develop speedy defenders more focused on defending their goals than reacting with panic from a stray pass up field.
Tah is one of the fastest defender they have with a top speed of nearly 36km/h

The 2014 team was far superior and they had less quality players. Neuer, Klose and Lahm were the core.
Look at defence, this is absolute shambles.Their defence looks so shaky,even with Rudiger and Sùle.No proper fullbacks, no decent forwards.I think Germany Youth teams have to work so hard to produce promising defenders, Forwards, and midfielders.The generation of Lahm, Özil, Bastian,Klose,Podolski and Kroos is long gone..

Germany’s defense is a mess. Too often Germany gets stuck with only 3 CB’s on a counter, a CB marks players too tightly and getting exposed, and CM’s are playing too high and not getting back quickly enough. Also, Sané should start improving his crosses, because he seems to only assist on ground balls, eliminating many opportunities.
We should drop Jonathan Tah and place Hoffmann instead
@@VDSBB not a bad idea, honestly. Also, on a separate note, I feel that Sané should be benched more often. I think that his attitude is often demotivating, and yes, while he does produce moments of magic, he makes too many errors and too often sets a slow pace, always playing back and making failed passes in the final 3rd. He is much different for Bayern than he is for Germany.
It's quite possible that Nagelsmann will be replaced before the tournament.
