I also like this truck combo too. I think the Pete suits this truck nicely. The blue color choice looks good with it too. This actually has a pretty fast arm. It' seems much faster than when first videos of these came out. Fantastic video! Hope we can see
I've been waiting for the day when you would come out with a video of one of these. It's a fantastic video! I like how the arm works a little different compared to a Rapid Rail. I like how you got some shots right next to the bin but some shots far away! Makes for a great video!
Light stuff like dirt falls out pretty easy through the brushes, which, look pretty odd on the truck. The strobe lights on the front are really neat. Not a horrible truck, but not one I'd want to drive. Awesome footage!
Another thing that crossed my mind as a solution to the arm needing to extend, would be to lift the pivot of the arm a small amount. Sure it'll cause a minimal amount of swing-out while lifting, but if done right it could allow for a full width hopper still. And allowing all functions to be used at any time is essential. Makes it faster and more versatile too. Theres plenty of potential, and I'd like to see a few reach to west coast when the problems are worked out. Could give Heil a good run.
Glad to see another proper video of one of these on here. Still have my concerns with the arm needing to be extended slightly. Wouldnt want to be doing any close grabs with this truck if theres mailboxes, poles or even curbs behind them, as Scott pointed out. They really should tighten the belts too, it makes the carts dump onto the brushes even more than usual since the grippers always slide up to the top of the carts gripping area. (1/2)
I always come back and watch this video. Whether it be the truck itself, the FA Duracast bins, or the in depth description. I will 100% agree with you on the fact that the hopper brushes are a terrible improvisation to a terrible packer. I think that my Advanced Disposal yard is on the right track by replacing all the RR arms with Python ones. The Python arms may be less sturdy, but the dumping angle and displacement of the trash is apparently phenomenal, according to the drivers. And seeing from personal experience, the packers on these things are slow as hell. Sometimes the driver will rev it, but it will just end up doing a little bit. Once again this video is all around a good video.
Excellent footage! Yeah a lot of potential indeed. A few minor adjustments and the truck should be good to go. Enjoyed the manual packing, great roar to this Pete! Doesn't help with the loose grip on those smaller containers because then the face almost right on the brush opening in the hopper. Those massive cylinders explain why the driver put the truck in neutral and revved a bit lol, I was wondering why haha. Great angles also!
In addition to the MultiPacks they have some AutoReaches and Automizers, along with an older F7000 that I think just sits in the yard. I'm almost sure this is their only EZ Pack. I do hope they revise this design, the Hercules ASL has some real potential do do very well. The grip is another problem, but I think the pressure might just be set too low/belts need adjusting. The grippers work fine with the other types of carts on route.
That's initially how I thought how this arm worked before seeing it in person, just assumed the pivot point was higher than a RR. It would be an easier fix, but I would rather a narrower hopper so the truck could handle alleys no problem. Body would end up ligher too. Throw in some smaller, faster cylinders and a decent set of controls and you have yourself a RR killer.
An interesting read in the description about this truck's flaws; interesting to also get a visual on what you were saying. I figured they've gone with a uniform approach to keep things alike between the FL and ASL, but sounds like they need to make some change. I was watching how slow the packer cycle is... probably not so good for 300g at the moment. One thing that struck me the first time I saw a picture of this truck was the enormous hopper on it, but I can see why only so much of the capacity is actually utilised at the moment. A nice looking machine though!
MitchellM15 Nice looking and a blast to watch in action but a fail of a truck to run. The crazy thing is Heil has just adopted their Rapid Rail arm to the DuraPack body in the same way. Even if their execution of the concept is better it's still a half-baked compromise of a design at best. And with all of Heil's quality issues as of late it's only a matter of time before a sensor fails and the arm plows straight into the hopper. Same goes for the E-Z Pack, though at least those are screwed together properly.
georgewuzheer That would make for a pretty mean video showing the arm on one of these or a Heil smashing straight into the side of the hopper lol Really is a crap function requirement, both critical for operation and also catastrophic in the event of a malfunction. Just takes that sensor to stuff up like you said. Haven't seen too many of those DP RRs around too; must not be popular.
EZ Pack has some basic specs on their website. 6yd hopper, 3.5yd swept per cycle. Nothing detailed on the cylinders and hydraulic system, only that they're the same as the ones in one of the Hercules front loaders.
yea, the grip problem (which makes the carts dump on the brushes even worse) is just because the belts arent pulled tight enough. They shouldnt be dangling like that at all. Its an easy fix, but one that is often overlooked. And the arm having to be out that extra distance in one thats always bugged me for a coupe reasons. I'm wondering what happenes the first time it has a "glitch" and doesnt automatically extend that extra foot or so.. boom the arm crashes into the hopper.
Really love Hercules SL's, I've always wondered if the brushes on the hopper were better than most rubber ones..It seems like the carts kind of rub against them alot harder than it would a small rubber strip on a Heil or something.. Great footage!
Great video George! Slow arm though. That would drive me insane if I had to drive that truck haha. Any idea on when the Waste Pro Recycle Bank video will be uploaded?
I really don't mind the loose grip, it's more fun to watch than carts getting crushed. Never seen Snyder carts outside of AZ either. Nice that the Pete has some kick to it. Never really was a huge fan of this side loader, although I like how it models a rapid rail, in a way. But like you said, a few fixes and it could be a contender one day. The arm really pissed me off how it would always stick out. What if you grabbed a cart without the arm, would it just extend on the way up?
I forgot to mention the beeps in the description lol, I have no idea really, I'll have to ask around. Another thing I was curious about is the tubing going to the follower panel rollers, you can see it well at 3:51 at 4:21. IDK might be part of an auto lube system...

Today, sadly the truck got retired. Replaced With a Curbtender.

Thanks! I agree, all it's problems aside the truck looks great on camera and is fun as hell to watch.

Some Garbage truck manufacturers have some issues with any products but mostly cheap parts they get what they pay for

Thanks! It's pretty quick as long as the packer isn't running, but that isn't very often lol. Not sure, but probably soon.
Good call, curbs would trip this thing up too.

Thanks! Yea the arm will extend automatically if the cart is grabbed too close.
