You can never go wrong with Sleep Token man. The lyrics are always so deep, raw and makes you think beyond just words. Vessel has some intense writing.
You should just do a deep dive and listen to all three of their albums. There seems to be a story about a toxic relationship that spans all of the albums.
Could the pain be the desire to wholeheartedly give yourself to another person, to go sooooo deep into the other person; so that you become one, yes, that all consuming desire, that tears at your soul, the heart of your soul, ever ripping, torturing your very being until the day you are in your person's arms and feeling that sensation of ones, absolutely consumed and sitting in complete peace, as the two hearts become one 🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
My headcannon is that the entity he often sings to is expert at keeping Vessel at a distance. There’s a desperate pain at the lack of connection, to the point where being consumed seems like it might be a relief/release. It really is Vessel’s low point before the story starts to turn around.

On the album, which is part of greater story told beginning to end of this trilogy of albums, Vore is preceded by Aqua Regia and followed by Ascensionism. That's not by coincidence. Go back and look at the lyrics of Aqua Regia and Ascensionism, the lyrics of this one will start coming together. I'm still waiting for the album title track Take Me Back To Eden, as well as Granite and Rain off this album. What I would really like to see though is to go through the journey of Sleep Token from beginning to end. I'd be here for every one of them as you follow the story. There's so much depth to the storyline that reacting to random singles here and there won't get the full context.
My interpretation: (and all songs are about the same person, in my view) All that we once were, when together, is gone...dead...and all that remains, I surround myself in it; in memories, in dreams. It hurts with such beauty I can't describe it. Does it hurt you as well? Do you suffer because we broke apart? All the things that remind us of one another, just hurting us more? If we lose ourselves to these fantasies, will it make the pain go away? Just let me have this pain, because it reminds me of the good I can never have again... But maybe that's the only way I ever had you in the first place, your heart never belonged to me unless I was suffering within your embrace. Maybe if we die together, I'll finally have you.
IMO the "thing" doing the swallowing is different in the two different contexts of the lyrics: one is the ex he misses, the other is a metaphor for the toxic relationship itself. The key to really getting it is not just paying attention to the lyrics, but paying attention to how each section is sung. Overall, it sounds like someone so messed up that they're aching, SCREAMING for somebody who understands them. It's such a quiet plea when he first whispers "Are you in pain like I am?" But then the song ends with him screaming it over and over, desperate as he fades with the noise. So initially, when it talks about "your viscera welcomes me in," it's using the metaphor of the body opening up to him as her emotionally opening up to him. They've connected on this visceral level, which IMO sounds like trauma bonding. I've experienced this, especially younger; forming such an intense connection with someone who understands your pain and having that pain be the basis of your relationship can be extremely toxic. But "you have become the voice in my head" feels like he's let himself obsess so much that he no longer sees himself as a fully separate entity from her. It's severe codependency. And then when it hits the chorus and talks about "let's get swallowed whole," the "beast" is the pain and this toxic relationship. It's something that only they understand about each other, so even if the relationship is destroying both of them, the only way he sees out is through. The only way to make "the pain stop" is if they "go deeper," and even if he has no idea if they'll survive, he wants to "go where nobody else will ever go." It's so precious to him that he needs it to be special. He needs it (and her) to belong to him; maybe it's out of fear of losing her, maybe it's out of sheer possessiveness, but does it ultimately matter? It's toxic codependency to a T, and the fact that his pain and need for love is so genuine makes it heartbreaking without excusing how irredeemable his obsession is. He's a monster and he knows no other way to be, but we all know that the only real option for whoever the song is about is to run like fucking hell. As someone who's been both parties in that relationship in the past and done a lot of work to grow as a person, this song hits me on a LOT of different levels. The metaphor of being consumed by pain or a toxic relationship is way too fucking real, and the intensity of the singing on this track in particular really drives it home. Personally, this song can be really emotionally harrowing if I'm not careful. It touches on a very specific kind of emotional spiral in a way that I've never heard before.

With the abstract concept of Take me Back to Eden being a desire to get back into paradise or innocence, I interpret this song to be more of a desire to be welcomed back in. Of course, the song is a metaphor using consuming as a description of how overpowering this person is, while Vessel is describing wanting to give in to all of it. It's painful not in his best interest, but he's so enamored that he wants it. It's just a more graphic. And yes, vote is a fetish that some people have, so it's probably borrowing from that idea to describe this feeling the "main character" is feeling. The lyrics do make this one of the harder songs to latch onto, but once you get past that, the emotion makes a bit more sense. It's being devoted to someone or something you know isn't good for you, but love it/them so much that you'll let it "consume" you.
Definitely no expert, but I like to think they have this sort of Pantheon that Vessel speaks about in the songs, so in that aspect I sort of think of this song as some kind of herculean feat where he's (the character) engaging perhaps an actual deity or guardian of some sort. I like to think they've got this entire mythology going on and I'm only catching a glimpse of it, only hints. And its just like any other mythology, full of lust and betrayal, power dynamics, rituals and beliefs. I could be way off but I enjoy thinking about it this way!

I agree that Sleep Token is very lyrically strong. That's one of the reasons I love this band. But if you want another band with lyrical skill (as well as excellent vocals), check out Bad Omens.
The want to be immersed fully in the essence of another, for that act to stop any and all loneliness and mental and physical anguish. To completely join and be the only person/being/ thought that consumes the other as well. It's glorious and euphoric and exceedingly painful at the same time. I love how this band/man conveys emotions through this artistic medium and leaves it just open enough for us to project our own selves into the situation allowing us to go on this journey.
