    This fallen Lady got 31 years of my life, I got out in 2001 before the fall. The roads and highways still don't seem the same after 14 years of not seeing trucks out there. RIP CF, you may be gone, but not yet forgotten. I would gladly live those 31 years again.

      I was there 22 years until her demise in 2002.. I was fortunate to be among the few who continued with Conway until the beginning of it’s end in 2010. Though I retired from Conway, I will ALWAYS consider myself an “ExCon”. CF’ers were family.

    My dad worked out of their Cincinnati terminal, for 30 plus years, had a wife and 6 children, as small children he would often take us to his work on the weekend, we loved what our dad did, taught us a lot of morals about life, being the sons and daughters of a dock worker & trucker, and on Sundays he drove a full size church bus for Land Mark Baptist Temple. Daddy loved being a trucker. RIP Dad & Corn flake.

    I remember the day it happened as I was in a truck stop that Labor Day. Someone on the CB late at night said that CF had shut down and I didn't believe it. The next morning before leaving out I went inside and it was on the TV news. Sad so many good paying jobs went extinct.
    As of a few years ago there are a few of their terminals, mostly smaller ones that are sitting derelict and rotting away. Such a sad site.
    A few of their trucks have since been bought by collectors. I saw one, a cabover Freightliner that ran the I-80 route from Chicago to California at a show. The owner said he got it cheap and was going to find a set of doubles with the con gear. That would be neat.

    Frame number 0:54-0:55 This is my Dad and this picture was taken around 1960 at C/F's terminal in Springfield, Illinois. Dad started driving for C/F as an "over the road" driver with C/F around 1947 when Knaus Truck lines got bought out by Consolidated Freightways. He drove for 33 years, first out of C/F's terminal in Kansas City, Mo, then out of Springfield, IL and his final years out of Chicago until he retired in 1980. Sadly, he died of cancer just two years later. RIP Dad. Drove thirty-three years without a chargeable accident. (I might also mention that this picture is being used WITHOUT my permission.)

    • @biggmike8275
      @biggmike8275 6 років тому +2

      they called it a west-coast mirror. that's what I was told. it was easier to see the whole unit front to back..and top of trailers. only bad part was trying to keep it clean and snow would lay on it..
      But that is a good question!!! nobody's ever asked me that in 15 yrs of driving for them..mike t Richfield ohio line haul

      a big blind spot was eliminated with the driver being able to see over the mirror. Any pics on the "mickey mouse" doubles we had in PA? York terminal had a few. The legalization in PA of double trailers (wiggle wagons) made them unnecessary. They were unique, to say the least! Pocono to Akron 6 years...good bid thanks
