  • If you are looking for zero drop, wide toe box shoes, you've undoubtedly comes across these as options. But how wide is "wide"? I'll answer that and more by measuring the insoles and giving them a try.

Hey thanks! I was feeling the same about the Inov-8 g 270. My wider right foot was feeling pressure spots around the heel area. I sent them back, but I felt like I was being crazy and all I needed was to run a few miles with them. I'm glad you confirmed to me I'm not crazy and they are actually too slim at the back.
    Thanks for the video

I really like the Superiors and I just take out the insole completely - maybe that can help you too.
    Thanks for the video!

I take out the insole and it works great.

Thank you, I did take the insoles out when I had them and it did help with that issue, but then I didn't love how hard they felt, so I spent them back. If you are good with a firmer feel though, then it's a great solution!

Inov8 fits me in the heel and toebox but way too narrow in the midfoot. Shame as it is a great feeling shoe in all other areas for me.

Thanks for the video. I think too that it's important the toebox construction. Xero's and minimalist models of Camper's always give me the feeling of more room for the same insole measurement. If any insole has preformed arch support I remove it inmediatly.

I like the superiors and I'm glad on version 6 they got rid of the rock plate. These are designed for packed dirt or sand and maybe light gravel. Any situations you need a rock plate for, the lone peaks would be a better pick than the superiors. I've always wanted to like the Topo shoes but I've had issues with all three that I've tried. Either the heel rubbed me wrong, or the toe box had a stitch that rubbed my toes weird or on the specters I had hot spots in my forefoot and heel. And its not even worth it to try Inov 8 for me. I can tell my heel won't fit in those.

100% on your take with the Inov8s, if Topos gave you heel issues, the Inov8s will very likely be worse.

I run in the superior 5. They are sort of tight in midfoot.
With insole the "burito" tongue barely overlaps.
But since i dont use the insole its not an issue for me. 100km so far and i like them better then my old superior 2.5 with about 1500km on them. :p

I had the lone peak 7 and dislike them very much. After 200km there done. I loved the toe box though and even got them in wider version. I feel when running through water they stay heavy for longer and clunky on trail. I had a Xero Mesa shoe and I have now returned two of the shoes. The sole actually fell off during a race and have bad quality control. I liked the superior 5 even though it was small through the foot and toe box. It was a fast shoe for me.. the Superior 6 has changed though. Good luck on your hunt and great review!!

Really great video alsomeasuring the soles. I really wonder how you squeeze your foot in any of these shoes. Your midfoot looks much wider than pretty much any insole.

My foot feels very free in my Prios, and fine enough in Altras. Clearly, not in much else though haha.

Have you thought of trying like a sandal? I run some check trails in Shamma sandals the model is called a Mountain go to see a thicker one, and with the power straps and everything especially if I’m gonna be wearing a pair of socks with it toe socks no things I can get them locked in and they feel great home because it seems like you have a really wide fitness sandal you can have as wide as you want I guess

I tried 2 sandals, one was super hard, the other I just couldn't keep the heel strap in place. What has helped me was walking barefoot on gravel, my body had to adjust my form automatically and it helped my knee and ankle issues go away, and for now, until this magic middle ground shoe appears, I'll just use normal altras for long times on my feet, and xeros for anything else and barefoot to help keep my form in check. Thanks for the the suggestion though!

Surprised to see how narrow the Inov8's are in comparison. Regardless, I like them so far & they've got quite a bit of praise. Just sucks for the wider foot folk, theyre a bit too narrow.

They've remodeled the Trailfly to be more "footshaped" (hopefully) and now also offers a wide option as well. I haven't tried it yet but it looks promising!

What sizes were you comparing? I wear a 12 in the line peaks, and recently got a 12.5 of the run ventures and feel a bit constrained on my left foot (width), so am considering going up to a 13. Seeing which sizes you are comparing could be helpful!

These are all size 10 shoes (except the nikes, which are 10.5)
