The government of India, in its attempt to increase efforts to reduce pollution, is slowly phasing out diesel vehicles. Recently, the government of Himachal Pradesh joined the list of governments that have implemented the vehicle scrappage policy. Due to this, 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles will be scrapped. Now, due to this rule, the lifespan of diesel cars has been severely reduced. So this begs the question: does it even make sense to buy a diesel car anymore in India?

My indica 20 years old, i have maintained such a way that, the pollution level is less than 8. Without knowing this, if the minister want to scrap citizens cars and promote automobile manufacturer, than know that minister is not for the people, only for the richest car manufacturers.

Vikram Bhai the government of the day wants to push the sales of more new vehicles. They want to earn taxes on a regular basis by introducing this policy. In case if they want these norms to be introduced, then they should atleast give a good/ proper value for the scrapped vehicle during new vehicle purchase.
There are a lot of polluting government vehicles which are plying on the roads which are completely damaging the environment. No one is bothered about these.

Excellent point made and it’s absurd how we are ok with this policy. Infact, it will cause more environmental damage (carbon emissions) to manufacture a new car than buy used or maintain an old vehicle. This policy is really bad. We the people must do something about it.

First everyone had to blame those judges who gave this order and had to educate them on technical things (of course we all know most will not care ) what u say.

They tried it in Delhi, people conformed. Thats the biggest mistake. Delhi has pollution issues but there are other measures to control pollution. Not this extreme BS. All car manufacturers publish their engines CO2 emissions data. They should bring in registration tax according to emissions. Low emissions = Lower registration tax. This will also give incentive to people to keep their car serviced and buy low emission cars. For people who absolutely need big cars need to pay higher registration costs. Thats the right way to do it. People should unite against this BS law. If people keep conforming to these extreme laws, it’s only going to get worse. Just hunger for more tax and they want people to keep buying new cars. What will happen to these old cars that will be deemed unusable? What a waste of money.

The other problem with scrapping 10 year old vehicle is people stop maintaing the car after say 7 or 8 years and they start poluting for the next 2 -3 years.Since any how you need to scrap a vehicle after 10 years no point in maintaing it well after 7 years.

This rule is not fair for old people- suppose a person of 60 years buys a new car at retirement then after 10/15 yrs, at 70/75 yrs their car would be scrapped by govt. when they only use it for small trips in old age, and why would they buy another new car in old age. This is very wrong
