My dad’s first car, MYW 826D. He hated driving, as he learned to drive, reluctantly, too late in life. I watched it decay and die after being sold to our neighbour; it just dissolved on his drive. It’s end was the beginning for me, though. I love old cars and now earn a most enjoyable living through old Fords. Thanks, Dad, thanks MYW 826D. Sadly now both departed but both a huge influence on my life to this day.

grew up during the 90s riding my dads anglia estate in Zimbabwe! every one knew someone who had one (although station wagons were rare) so it soon became apparent that when the country was still called Rhodesia during the 60s, that there must have been thousands of them imported as well as in southafrica too! the car had soul, it was as solid as a rock and it went everywhere...our family still talks about it to this day!

I had one. In the winter the door buttons used to freeze up - I carried a cigarette lighter to unfreeze them. When I went into an explosive building at work somebody asked me did I smoke. I said no. He didn't ask did I have matches or a lighter! I took mine from London to Newcastle on the M1 back in 1972. A beautiful simple little car.

My Grandad bought one-second hand, it was a 1964 B reg and he kept it till his death in 1994. Painted it with gloss paint from the doing up the house in the end. WHo else has a matching house and car? Amazing memories. It was ludicrously out of date by the end of the 70s but incredible in its own way.

My mum passed her test in our Ford Anglia in 1966 when I was 5 years of age. She primarily started to drive to participate in the school run shared by a group of young mums at my new school. Happy days. Going to school, being picked up and being dropped off at home by a Ford Anglia. a Hillman Imp and a Mini, depending on which mum was driving. She's 86 years of age now and has long since hung up her driving keys.

Watching all the videos on YT about these old Brit cars and a few Yank barges, I would never have believed I could live long enough to see them being thought off as anything desirable or ever worth more than about 50 quid - which is about what I used to pay (or less!) for them, running, taxed with MOT!
It also strikes me that I have owned or driven just about every British car of the mid-late 1960s and 1970s, which is not a thought which I have previously consciously harboured!
Most videos lauding stuff like the Anglia, Mini, Cortina, Austin/Morris/Wolseley/MG 1100, Austin Cambridge, Westminster, Humber Snipe, Sunbeam Rapier etc. etc. etc. would have been unimagineable back in the day. These were all such "run of the mill" cars with, as we thought then, absolutely nothing worth raving about, so ordinary and mundane were they!
Of course seeing the prices they can fetch today, it would have been worth buying 100 at less than 50 quid each and storing them for 50 years!
    But who knew?

If that car is totally original and has crossply tyres that would be the reason for the steering problem you have (assuming all the ball joints and t.c.a.'s and shock absorbers are in good condition. Those old crossply tyres follow all the little ridges and bumps in the road. A good set of radials will make it drive a lot better although you may have to have a different set of wheels or have tubes put in as I cannot remember if the original wheels are suitable for tubeless tyres.
    Nice car :)

Standard 105E was maybe 75 mph tops, 0-60 eventually..which made them very popular as a '70s hot rod. add a cortina 1500GT engine, corsair 2000E gearbox, classic front struts and they went like hell by comparison. all bolt in swaps too

Is the car on crossply tyres? If it is then change them to modern radials and that "drifting" about you were talking about will improve dramatically. I had a Cortina MK1 on crossplys and them changed to radials... massive improvement! Crossplys tend to pick up on any imperfections in the road and their sidewalls aren't as supple making for an erratic ride.

It's funny, most of the things that she doesn't like about new cars, i.e. chunky steering wheels and thicker pillars, are all there to reduce the risk of injury in an collision. I reckon if she was to watch a Ford Anglia smash into a tree at 60mph and, let's say, a Renault Modus smash into the same tree at the same speed, she would probably still drive the Anglia because Modus' are about as cool as sleeping with your friend's great-grandmother. Yeah.

Your babbling chipmunk voice is obscured by the stupid muzak. Did you think putting music on your video would make us admire how talented you are? Whenever anyone uses background music, it means they are lying, that's why they use background music in advertizing and drama.

Yes, sorry about that, we were young and foolish. Making the same video now if we had music at all it would probably be more contextual and certainly quieter - you live and learn. Not sure how helpful negative comments are, but it's good to have feedback nevertheless so thanks for that. We stopped making the videos in the end because we were getting quite a lot of hate and it wasn't worth the grief! They're only meant to be fun and we never even monetised them.

Yes, as I've said many times before it was a bit of a mistake, but you live and learn. And nobody actually has to watch the video of course. And nobody has to comment either, can't see the point myself, doesn't achieve anything. I lie, I have commented on other videos but only positively because I appreciate the effort people go to making them, usually for no reward.
