- Now back in Colombia, We sit down for a Conversation with Señor Rio, who was Drugged and Robbed in 2022, but he Surprised everyone by tracking down the Girls who did it and making them pay. I brought a Colombian girl I met in a club back to my AirBnB in Cartagena late last year. Next day, I left her at mine and went to buy food for us at a nearby food place and came back with the food. Thankfully she was cool and took nothing (and I had my passport/cards/cash in a backpack which had been locked with a padlock), she was still there when I returned. I had met her group of friends which included numerous foreigner backpackers, so I had let my guard down.
But seeing all these horror stories, I realize how stupid I was to even take that risk. I was lucky she wasn’t a bad person, but i took such a big risk there bringing her back and then leaving her there alone. She could have easily taken off with my padlocked backpack and my laptop

Bruh as a dual citizen American and Colombian that has lived half his life in both countries and has been to New York several times, I can tell anyone that Colombia is way more dangerous than New York. Matter fact I live in New Orleans and it's pretty much the most dangerous city in America and I can tell you that here I feel a lot safer than Colombia, even in the good neighborhoods in Colombia something can happen. If this guys keeps downplaying Colombia something might happen to him again. In Colombia you gotta stay humble, you can't have that attitude of "I'm from New York"

I've been visiting Medellín Colombia since August 2021. Statistically speaking and from what I've witnessed, New Orleans is MORE DANGEROUS than Medellín, plain and simple.

I totally relate to what he was saying about putting on the weight in a country that has nothing exciting to offer. I live in Canada and all I do here is work, eat, sleep. Whenever I visit Colombia I lose weight because there is so much to see walking around and interacting with people. Today it's -29 degrees celsius where I live, which is -20.2°F for you Americans. What can a person possibly do under these weather conditions besides stay home and watch youtube or tv and eat? In Medellin I am out walking around every day. It's a whole different culture and a large part has to do with weather.

Hi. I want to first say thank you for doing this. I was also victim to these drugs and abuse for years continuously being used to assist in adultery. Had prescription meds used along with the high dose cbd oil and scopolamine and am currently researching the long term effects of exposure due to abuse etc. and have been in and out of the hospital with very uncommon medical issues and worry they be related.
Question, if they use devils breath on you and you have a two bedroom rental, can’t they just ask you where your stuff is and get you to open the room?
Next time I go to Medellin, I’ll stay in a Airbnb with 24 hours security., I’ll slip $10 to the security to make sure no one leaves the property if I’m not there escorting them out. If they’re trying to leave without me there, something is wrong and to go to my apartment to check on me. When the girl leave I’ll slip another $10.

I moved to Queretaro, Mexico in 2021, but you still must be ALERT, and I was 79.
I have hot water, no bugs or mice, and it is about 6 years old. I only have one neighbor next door, because it is an Airbnb, where I have a private monthly basis with owner.70% of the time next door is empty. I did not buy in Mexico, but I did have a time share in Acapulco for 6 years.I had a house in the USA and a condo. I stopped driving at 75, for I do have visual problems. I married twice and had one daughter in 1980.

First off, I’m a 47-year-old, black man from the projects of uptown New Orleans. I have four boys over the age of 18. I’ve been in the military (Air National Guard) for almost 29 years now and also did 19 years of civilian law enforcement. Twice divorced and currently have a fiancée in Medellin. We’ve been dating for well over a year and a half now. She’s 40 years old with three kids and is gainfully employed. I’ve been visiting Medellin since I came back from one of many deployments in August of 2021. Upon my second trip to Medellin (November of 2021), I fell in love with the place and knew that would be my retirement place. I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs, or frequent clubs.
I give the gentleman props for being honest and upfront. He’s right about the Colombian culture: the ‘working women’ are not the culture of Colombia or Medellin in particular. The Colombian people look down on them, true. The paisas (that’s what they call themselves) are LOVING. I ask older people for directions or general questions I have. I stay in Envigado, Laureles, Belen, or places like that. When I first got there, I stayed in El Poblado because I didn’t know anywhere else and I was just learning the city. Now that I’ve frequented more, I go further out and visit other places like Sabaneta. Those places don’t have many gringos there and not much foot traffic, but they are nice locations. I love those places because they are quiet, but have some of the city ambiance.
Also, he said it; LEARN SOME SPANISH. I still use Google Translate, but I can go get my groceries and place an order without it. I am learning from talking to my fiancée every day. We been kicking it since I first told her that I wanted to be serious. She doesn’t ask me for money often and I do give her money- that’s my woman. When I was dating in the states and married, my women asked me for money and I gave it to them, so that’s NO DIFFERENT than what we would do at home, so we need to stop the cap on that.
Also, the statistics show that the major cities in Colombia have less crime than the major cities in Colombia, that is facts. Colombians are hard working people and are genuinely caring.
I have to clear up some things he said: you CAN find love in Colombia, it just depends on what YOU are looking for. Love is rarely found in the clubs or the working houses. You can’t be flashing your money around and flashing jewelry. Just like back at home, all women WANT SOMETHING, but it depends on what kind of woman the man is dealing with and what they want. Some women want nothing but money while others want your time. STAY OF THE DA-TING APPS!! I met my girl through another Colombian woman that was at work. Meet women organically (at the store, mall, park, et cetera). I know seven men, four are married and the other three are engaged, who have women that are making a range of salaries. Our women treat us all the same- loving, caring, and wholesome. They’re not gold-diggers or money hungry. They’re out there, but we weeded them out. Also, we don’t go to the places that have the plethora of ‘working women’ or desperate women like that. We are not looking for drugs or any illicit stuff. That environment attracts the negative things.
I love Medellin and will retire around the end of this year. I cannot wait. I find solace and peace there and most importantly, a peace of mind. My woman takes care of me and I take care of her as well.

@@29thizzlein terms of crimes against tourists though, how do they compare? I'm struggling to recall frequent serious crimes directly targeted at tourists in the UK where I live. I follow US news daily and certainly don't believe the same tourist crimes we're hearing about in Medellin are happening in the US. The context of crime statistics are critical when making comparisons.

Leave the high-priced phone locked up and use an inexpensive burner phone. Leave the bank cards locked up and operate with just enough cash for the day. Keep the cash and your ID securely hidden on yourself (not in a wallet carried in your hip pocket).

What he's saying is true because most of the women in Colombia are accustomed to dealing with foreign guys who give them money. But I still think you can find love in Colombia. I think these are the same girls, but I figured Part 3 would pick back up in the living room with the 2 girls on the couch like Part 2 did, when he first confronted them and got his phone back, (the cubby girl with long, straight, dark hair in the yellow outfit and baseball hat, and the skinnier girl with shorter dark hair in the black).
