I need to play this on a monitor in front of my Concept 2 as a motivational tool! Accompanied by Little River Band's "Cool Change" for the music. Well done, Cameron. Thanks for taking us along.
@@CameronBuchan Definitely a no on the music please! I just enjoyed this as my very first ever rowing machine row as a 50 year old on Christmas day! Enjoyed it a lot :)
In a former life (about 18 years ago) I have walked this whole stretch with a trundle wheel and marked it out in 500m stretches- Its still a lovely place to row. and lovely memories of the 500m inlet, 1km clump, Pylons, metal fence at about 2500m etc.
@@CameronBuchan maybe with talking it could be hard, but with a silent video like that the wind even gives it a little atmosphere, love that you respond to the community you created 👍
Hi Cameron Thanks man! This video has been helping me to get into rowing. I set up the water rower in front of the tv and get into sync mode. I get more out of the work out and am rowing more in general. Continuously rewinding it after 1500m but the little pause is welcome. Can I persuade you in making more of these vids, with different stroke rates?
Hello! That's awesome to hear. Glad you've found use in the videos. Since I'm training full time I don't go out really to film for UA-cam so if the stats align and I am doing different rates and filming I'll see what I can do! #yamsquad
Not 100% of the time but most people scull left over right I'm pretty sure. In my boat the right rigger is lower than the left to compensate slightly for this
There was a time, as far as I know, when every club could choose whether they rowed left over right or vice versa. In Germany most clubs in the west would do left over right and in the east the other way round. But my club in the west was doing right over left (my dad told me that). After the reunion of the two Germanies it was standardized to left over right. So that's the story for Germany, maybe it was similar in other countries?
Excellent video! It would be nice if it’s not to much trouble for you to combine recordings like this for 60 minutes to be used for erg workouts. Perhaps start with 30 minutes. For those of you asking why Cam doesn’t have a better launch platform, you should see my club. I have to be away from the dock in less than 45 seconds or risk flipping or damaging the boat. Now with COVID I do a beach launch which requires me to be in the water up to my ass. Some days I have 2 to 3 foot surfs, which means I have to time the waves to not wipe out. Thanks again, please keep those videos coming!
You have inspired me. A friend and I have chosen to purchase am oar boat. However we are not seeing Amy available online on ebay or amazon. Can you guide us to would appreciate it
Much better - knees are not moving sideways. Closest I've been to there is Balfour's Fish and Chip shop in Falkirk - my daughter had trouble understanding what the people were saying.
I have never experienced much of a difference. The movement may be covering more difference but I'd hope Polar can calculate the actual difference covered. The same logic would apply to runners and wearing it on their wrists no?
@@WickedG5150 nice choice! I have known many people who have raced Hudsons in the past, and they all love the durability and the stiffness. IMHO, best single to buy for personal use in 2020
I'm strictly an indoor rower at this point, but would love to get out on actual water. Basic question: How can you possibly do this without some sort of mirror (or camera/monitor) to tell you if you're about to collide with something, for example another boat? I can't imagine having to look over my shoulder often enough.
You're right. On busy water it can be a real pain! Where I am rowing just now there are only a few people on the water at the same time. On top of that there is the water traffic pattern just like a road so you have to trust people to stick to that!
@@CameronBuchan Thanks for the reply! I'm wondering if anyone uses the little rear view mirrors some cyclists clip to their sunglasses. But I'm going to watch your video again during my erg workout this evening, secure in the knowledge that the only think I might run into is my dimwitted cat.
lol, are you entirely alone on that canal? i would get anxiety to run into a incoming rower from the other direction - so I turn around and check every so often.

Ethan is spot on! It's not a rowing centre, it's a canal that's usually quite busy with other boats. Not so much currently though. Where we boat isn't that bad and you get used to it pretty quick!
That narrow bridge... Directly at the beginning... Can ruin the whole training.... Otherwise this is a dreamy, windless smooth water.... Great perspective, as well.

I'm sure there will be one soon, maybe even something like a 3x10!
Nice video. Great conditions. Seeing you sculling brings me good memories. Thank you.
Thanks for this video that demonstrates so well the catch-recovery ratio, and the head cam is perfect to focus on hand position.
Splendid. Thanks for doing a video like this. No words, nothing to read.
Hopefully be able to do a few more over time!
how tall are you, also, that is a niiiiiice boat! love the red!

It is standard to row left over right, there are poppers the change the height of the oar locks so the oars are even when your hands are staggered
In croatia we row left over right too
