Interesting! So the landsknecht came about because Maximilian I lacked a base of vassals. Like you mentioned in your Swiss mercenaries videos, even the smallest kingdoms (in terms of land and population) could become formidable powers if they could leverage trade and amass the capital to purchase mercenaries. So the processes that gave birth to the Swiss mercenaries were the same that gave birth to the landsknechte. Almost like younger siblings.
