  • They had already served time for their crimes. Now with Donald Trump as president, these US permanent residents of Cambodian origin are getting deported, leaving behind loved ones and barred from the country they call home.
Under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act enacted by ex-President Bill Clinton in 1996, any legal immigrant in the United States who has committed a crime can be deported back to their home countries.
More recently, the number of deportations of Cambodians surged due to Trump's aggressive anti-immigrant policies.
What happens when these immigrants get removed from their families to live in a country they hardly know?

My god the media is corrupt. Non-stop pro-"minority" propaganda. The MSM is determined to destroy this country by turning it into a third world hellhole. Not a word from them about the rampant crime wave that follows blacks and Muslims everywhere. Not a word about the trillions of dollars in real estate destroyed by "people of color." Not a word about the inefficiency of businesses who are forced to hire lazy, inept "minorities" to satisfy quotas. Just endless bleeding heart stories designed to inflame the public and make them think we're "bad" if we don't hand over our country, our money and our jobs to the enemy. SICK!

@@hillarybarrie7548 My God. What's wrong with this comments section? I can understand if we're deporting criminals for things like robbery, assault, money laundering, and other serious crimes. But what kind of conscientious human being wants to exile someone like Sothy (the first man) who was charged with nothing more than intent to distribute marijuana, a relatively harmless substance that's already legal in some states anyway?
So what if he's technically a criminal? Should we go after the 57 million Americans who illegally download music? That's technically a crime worth millions of dollars.
Sothy committed a relatively trivial crime and paid his dues. He's a LEGAL immigrant who pays his taxes. He's a changed family man. I have to question the humanity of anyone so eager to separate a man from his wife and baby for something so insignificant as marijuana possession.

@@khmer5591 Before 1989, Green Card doesn’t have expiration date and the stamped on the Green Card says “Permanent Resident.” In 1996 Congress passed the IIRIRA Act and signed by President Clinton which in plain English reversed the word “permanent” to “Temporary.” I, like most Cambodians never ever thought in a million years that the US would expelled or repatriated us back to Cambodia. The only thing that set me apart is I wanted a job and that job required that I’d be a citizens of the US. With that being said, those who judged these deportees haven’t got the slightest ideas what they went through. These kids are a products of an Americans. People are so quick to judge about the man living in the US for 37 years and yet failed to get his citizenship. Did they also know that Trump even deported a Native American woman to Columbia? She was 25 years old and were deported. Also there was a captain of police department that were detained and deported he was an American citizen. Trump and his goons didn’t care. He and his family should be deported back to his mother land of Germany. Oh wait I forgot, his motherlands kicked his grandfather out because like Donald Trump, his grandfather ran away during the First World War came to America made a fortune and tries to go back to Germany and began bribing German government officials and caught as well and was deported back to the US. Donny learned quite well from his grandfather. A draft dodger. I went through similar situation with this man here. You can say I committed a crime, but what crime did I really commit? Here is one example, a white teenage boy rode his bike and slammed into my parked car. When I saw what happened I yelled for him to stop because he broke my left side rear view mirror, but he kept running so I took off and followed him with my car. I caught up to him and he said follow him to his house so that his parents can pay for the damages. When I got to his house, there six police officers waiting for me and arrested me. They took me into custody for threatening to harm a teenager. I showed the officers damages that boy did to my car. The officers asked me why I was going to do with the baseball bat inside the trunk of my vehicle if I didn’t planned on harming the kid. I was charged for possession of a deadly weapon and threatening the teenager. I was released from jail after one week than the immigration picked me up and I was arrested and sent to immigration holding for 1 year. Even when I told the immigration officers that I’m a naturalized citizen. Where is justice? My vehicle was damaged and I was sent to jail. They never paid for the damages.

Deportation should be illegal. Separating anyone from their family is inhuman. If they served time, they reformed, they deserve a second chance. Cambodia accepting deportation is at fault. Everything is about money. United States should be a country to unite people not separate them from their country and their family. How evil to
send any human being to a place they never been to and have no one or no place to go to for help. Bottom line we need to ban deportation. It doesn’t make any sense.

Back in 1986, I was standing in a room with a bunch of other Cambodians (and Mexicans) with our hands on our hearts saying the pledge of allegiance. Everyone walked out of that room as an American citizen.
They tell you straight up when you enter this country as a refugee, you have permanent residence and the right to work but you are not granted all the rights of an American citizen unless you become one. I know plenty of people who never bothered getting citizenship because they either didn't want to pay the fees or they were too lazy to study for it.
Bill Clinton opened up the floodgates for deportation and the first deportees started leaving nearly 20 years ago. These people were in the country for 20 years and never bothered getting citizenship. After the first wave of deportees in 2002, they understood the importance of getting citizenship, yet here we are 18 years later for a grand total of 38 years and thousands upon thousands of them still have not applied for citizenship. At some point they're going to have to stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility for their own actions or lack thereof.

Some Vietnamese are being deported too for the same reason as in this video and I don't sympathize with them either because I know plenty who have succeeded by working hard instead of being lazy and going the criminal route. It's possible to start from scratch and remain productive citizens. Judgmental people out there. Sorry that people made mistakes for not being a U.S. citizen, but there are many Americans who killed their own kind who are able to stay in the United States and committed more crimes. Are able to stay in the states vs an immigrant who did not kill any one but served their full term in prison and now having to face deportation. It is unfair. I have seen many families suffered. Every situations are different. People need to stop judging. No one is perfect. And Unless you have gone threw the same situations as these people , then you truly know how they feel. My daughter will probably never see her grandfather. We will have to live with it and deal with it. But I believed in karma. Those who judge another human being due to their privilege. I pray to god that one day you know how it feels to be separated from a love one.
