Having drinks on a Friday night with wife and she was like.....and I quote "Does your bass video guy play the doobie brothers what a fool believe" and BAM here it is she loves this song!!!!!!
Def "The Power of Love" :) And btw thanks for all you do on here. I'm a non-music reading, late 40s female who wanted to learn bass age 14 - but was told at school, "girls don't play bass." Finding your channel last year inspired me to prove them wrong (albeit 32 years late!) So I bought an Ibanez SR500 a few months ago (to a few smirks from friends), started lessons, and am just focusing on enjoying it and being the best I can. I'll never be gigging or get back the 30+ years I lost - but every time I pick my bass up, it makes me smile. So cheers, Troy :)
Happy Birthday Michael McDonald. The guy is such a genious. Anything he puts his vocals to is simply amazing. And plays some mean keys as well. Excellent cover Troy, & tribute 🇺🇸
Doobies were my 2nd concert (Kiss was 1st, AC/DC opened) 1978, possibly 79. Night opened for them, had Nicky Hopkins on keys, if memory serves. Mike McDonald still had dark hair, remember that clearly, don’t remember a dude in a chair, so Skunk Baxter prob had left by then. anyhow, great vid, as always 👍🏻
I've learned my lesson and will hold on to it for a while. Every time I get rid of a Ric, I wind up forgetting how much I don't really care for them and get another...and then the process starts all over again. Thanks Jennifer.
TJH3113 There is no way that you’re old enough to be so familiar with “What’s Happening”!! If you are, you have aged VERY well!!! You’re absolutely adorable. Your Lynn is a lucky lady!! I feel free to say that as a grandma all the way from Texas😇
Sure I am. If I look any younger than 53 it's only because I rarely leave the house and keep my stress level to a minimum. Haha, I'll have to remind Lynn just how lucky she is.
There you go again being awesome. 🤣🤣🤣 One of my favorite songs from 7th grade. I still love Michael McDonald so much. Saw the Doobies summer after 6th grade with Boston and Poco. I was in the front row. Nice bass line! Thanks for the video. ❤🖒🖒🖒
Your Rickenbacker sound is so great! And "The Power of Love" is definitely my pick. Back to the Future is such a good movie, and that's where us young Europeans got introduced to that song
What a nicely written bassline this is, genius!! its great you post these covers, and highlight them for us mortals who don't listen to basslines usually
Casting my vote for Power of Love. That's one of my favorite bass lines ever, and I'd love to see you play that! Great cover by the way. This bass line has a funny way of stabbing the notes. It made for an interesting cover.
The Power of Love gets my vote. Good playing on this one Troy even though I'm not a fan of Michael McDonald's stint with the Doobie's. Bad memories of a.m. radio "yacht rock" songs that saturated the airwaves in the '70's. :-)
Omg dude! You’re on an Easter egg roll! You keep outdoing yourself with these killer tunes highlighting the bass parts ... which we wouldn’t know about due to being buried in the mix. Entertaining sh*t fo sho!
Great cover Troy as always. He was supposed to play along a parade route in Metairie La. last weekend called Family Gras but cancelled do to rain . Shame but I don’t blame him. Thanks for the great posting. ✌🏻
Amazing cover Troy! You should definitely post The Origin of Love! I'd love to see you cover Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan sometime. Keep the covers coming :-)
So crisp and well accented. That face in the beginning lmao as if you were dreading it. I don't know if you are aware but you were recently mentioned on the Official Geddy Lee fan page on Face Book lol. They love you over there as well. 😁🤘
Thanks. I think I'd done a few takes before this one. There wasn't much room for error in this one, it's such a tight line. I only belong to 2 Rush groups on Facebook (people get crazy) but it's nice to hear that people are talking nicely behind my back. Thanks for letting me know.
Hey Troy great job love Tiran Porter so underrated...btw I've said this before and I'll say it again those 70's arena bands set up the pop rock era and when Mr McDonald joined the doobies they literally took that next step and transformed a song into a number one hit(or close to it) and if I'm correct this song won grammys for record and song of the year in 1979 also those two doobie albums w/Mr McDonald were really good albums "takin it to the streets" then "minute by minute" ......and for a valentines day song although I'm not a fan of the holiday you can't go wrong with "power of love" because as you know it's a "curious thing"....lol
Excellent job as usual! I love watching your vids. I like your technique and how it shows how complex certain basslines can be, and how import to the songs they really are. especially when half the time they get lost in the mix. ( have you ever thought of doing "Slow Ride" ?)
If you haven’t done a song for Valentine’s Day can I add one to the list Stone in love by Journey. Get bass lines and all round get song. Just a shot .. lol
This song has a great bass line. I love it! Another gem Troy!! Huey gets my vote. Mario Cipollina is such an underrated bassist, anchoring the low end for Huey Lewis and the News all these years. Check out his cool bass solo on UA-cam: Mario's bass solo Japan.
To say I am "not a fan" of McDonald is an understatement, but killer cover as usual! I've seen the Doobie Brother's live several times and yeah - they never fail to disappoint. Power of Love please - so strange you mention this, as the wife & I were just listening to some old Huey Lewis.
Hi Troy, any chance you could share your stock sansAmp settings? I can seem to dial in that sparkling top you seem to get on all your basses. Thanks :)
I'd be happy to, this just isn't the best venue to do it in. Perhaps I'll make a video or something. There's no great secret though. For my active basses, the Wal, Spectors, MusicMan, as well as, the Ric, I use a Para-Driver. For most of the other basses, I find that the standard Bass-Driver ver. 1 or 2 work best. Most of the time the bass and treble controls are at 25% or a bit higher...never more than halfway up though. A lot of the "shimmer" comes from the Drive function. I'm not a fan of distortion on bass, so what I do is turn up the Drive until I can just start hearing a touch of distortion, then back it off a bit until it's gone. If that helps at all.
One of the best bass lines of all time, so groovy
It is, isn't it?
Having drinks on a Friday night with wife and she was like.....and I quote "Does your bass video guy play the doobie brothers what a fool believe" and BAM here it is she loves this song!!!!!!
A bit of "Troy-Flix and chill"?😂 I hope you liked it. Take care.

It's never too late. So happy you've arrived and I hope you derive as much enjoyment from playing as I have.
Shelsight 👍👍🇩🇪
Shelsight Good for you and the supporters are here to support you as well. Cheers
What a charming bass part. Cant believe Im missing Doobie Bros with Michael Mcdonald tour this summer.
I'm glad you liked it.
I'm sorry to hear that. It should be a good show.
Such a funky bass line. Sounds great with that Rick. Great job!!
Thanks.
Happy Birthday Michael McDonald. The guy is such a genious. Anything he puts his vocals to is simply amazing. And plays some mean keys as well. Excellent cover Troy, & tribute 🇺🇸
Thanks.
I love jamming this bassline. Well done playing it
Very cool! Thank you.
Great Job on one of my Favorite songs...
Thank you.
I was just singing this in the car on the way to work this morning... thank you for yet another awesome rendition of a timeless classic.
Awesome. Glad that you liked it.
You and the big guy, probably the two best bass players on youtube! Awesome......
Thanks.
Great song ... reminds me of high school days!
Cool.
🎸Great song, choice and cover🎙
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
This has been on my recent play list.
Very cool! It's a fun one.
Beautifully done. Bravo.

Gotto love you r Rick, man!
Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Power of love for sure!
This just came on the radio at work, and I'm thinking "I bet Todd has a video of this one." A PERFECT bass line!
Awesome, I hope you like it!

Yes!
thanks for doing all these. i really appreciate them!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
If you ever tire of your Ricky, send it my way... Signed, if you please! LOL. Seriously, though, excellent bass cover. More Doobs! 😜
I've learned my lesson and will hold on to it for a while. Every time I get rid of a Ric, I wind up forgetting how much I don't really care for them and get another...and then the process starts all over again. Thanks Jennifer.
Yet another awesome choice. Well done
Thanks.
When I was in middle school, my mom used to have this song playing on repeat in the car.
It could have been worse.
Lovely!
Thank you.
smooth!!! I remember when they appeared on the television show What's Happening.....
Haha. Never forget when Rerun dropped the tape recorder out of his coat.

Enhorabuena! Gran bajista, ahora con la cuarentena estoy practicando con tus videos , me encantan. Gracias desde España.
Muchas gracias. ¡Mantente seguro y saludable!
Very nice playing, love the Rickenbacker too.
Thanks.
Your videos are brilliant, thanks for taking the time to post and make them
Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
The origin of love.... the reason fod this choice is i don't think ive ever heard it... this cove is excellent as all your covers are ☺
Origin of Love would be amazing, that's also a favorite of mine. Love Hedwig!
Your Rickenbacker sound is so great! And "The Power of Love" is definitely my pick. Back to the Future is such a good movie, and that's where us young Europeans got introduced to that song
Thanks.
Love the doobie Brothers! Great base line Troy!!!!!!
Me too!
It is, isn't it?
Nice playing, that Rickenbacker sounds very good too!
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

Amazing! Congratulations Troy. Greetings from Diego Nascimento, Brazil!
Thanks and greetings from the once great country of the USA.
Tiran Porter is one of my favorite bassists (in my top 10 classic rock bass players). Love to hear your covers!
Very cool. I think he's great too. Thanks.
Power of Love, please. Thanks as always.
O cara é fera bom no que faz.
Muchas gracias.
One of my favorite Doobies tunes.. Great cover and I love the tone you have with the Rick.. Well done.
Thanks a lot.
Great job Troy as always.
Thank you.

Troy, dude your the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot. Would you mind telling my wife that?
@@TJH3113 sure but only if you will tell mine the same thing but they both would say you and I are nuts!
I really like the Kenny Loggins version as well ... nudge , nudge ... Love to hear you play that.
I'll check it out...didn't know he did a version.
Love all your covers 🙌🏻❤️ amor hacia el bajo!!!
Thank you very much.
Tiran Porter could kick that funky bass like a mule
No doubt.
"The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis & The News is perfect for Valentine's Day!
I've heard it and it brings tears to my eyes. Love the way you play this as well. Beautiful!!!!!! :-)
Thanks so much.
Thanks TJ. Amazing version. So fresh and perfect. 🖖🏻
Thank you very much.
Fantastic Troy!!! As always.
Would love to see "Come and Get Your Love" it's one of my 70's guilty pleasures.
Thanks a lot.
Well done bass cover, Troy... as usual.
Thanks.
Great cover Troy as always. He was supposed to play along a parade route in Metairie La. last weekend called Family Gras but cancelled do to rain . Shame but I don’t blame him. Thanks for the great posting. ✌🏻
Thanks. Very cool. I'd have cancelled as well.
If ever it were needed to show how, sometimes, less is more......bravo sir, bravo.
Canihavesome my exact thoughts; no BS, no pretentiousness... just straight to the point, clean, crisp and effective playing.
I know this response is late but I would play We're All Alone. I think that would be so great for you and Lynn. I also like The Power of Love. :-)
Do you mean "We're All Alone" by Boz Scaggs? I've done that one. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.
Amazing cover Troy! You should definitely post The Origin of Love!
I'd love to see you cover Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan sometime. Keep the covers coming :-)
+1 to Kid Charlemagne. One of my favorite Steely Dan bass lines.
It's great! I wish I could play it. It is almost definitely my favourite, closely followed by The Fez and Home at Last.
Exquisite tone and as ever sweet performance.
Come & Get Your Love - Classic!
Hope you liked it.
Superb Troy.
Thank you.

Hey man, been subbed a long time now. I just have to say your technique is absolutely perfect. You're a joy to watch and learn from.
Thank a lot.
They certainly don't write them like they used to anymore. Great job!
Since you got me in this AM Radio state of mind, my pick is Redbone.
No, they don't. Thanks.
You're the man!
If you say so. Thanks!
My man you a legend
Haha.
I vote for Come and Get Your Love by Redbone.
thank you
Thank "you".
Come and get your love
Very nice my friend 😍🎸
Thank you.
🎸😍
Redbone for sure!
Come and Get Your Love....would be my first choice...
Power of Love! Please!

"a superlative piece of skill"

I really like this channel
Thank you. That's great to hear.
Nice
Thanks
I love the fact i can actually hear the bass. you play wonderfully . can i get TABs or do just have to fake ?
That's great to hear. Thank you very much. I'm sorry, but I do not have tabs. I play by ear and memory.

Power of Love please - so strange you mention this, as the wife & I were just listening to some old Huey Lewis.
I'm a much bigger fan of the Tom Johnston era Doobies.
Any cover you do will be great. I'd vote for a surprise.
Rebone!
Love the Doobie! And I have to go with Huey Lewis, but damn if I don't need to see a Hedwig song!
Thanks.
“It’s My Life”, by Talk Talk, is a great bass line and song. You nailed this one!
I'll check it out.
I vote for Huey Lewis
Go ahead and post all three.
This song has always been a beautiful mess to me. It's the incredible bass line that's the thread that holds it all together. Well done.
Yeah, it wasn't as simple as I thought it would be, if I remember correctly.
Can you Another Park Another Sunday
I will check it out.
“The Origin of Love” (Hedwig is a good movie).
“Come and Get Your Love” would be my second choice.
And that is the glossiest fretboard I think I've ever seen. Pledge?
Probably just the way the light is hitting it. No, I never really polish my basses, just wipe them down after I play them.
Hi Troy, any chance you could share your stock sansAmp settings? I can seem to dial in that sparkling top you seem to get on all your basses. Thanks :)

Thanks, that's helpful info. I only have the Para-driver v2. How do you have the blend knob, dry or wet? Thanks again I'm still getting used to it,
I always have the blend on full SansAmp. I just looked at my Para-Driver and noticed that it doesn't have a blend. Hah.
Could you please cover healer by the sweet, I can't figure out how to play it correctly
I'll check it out.
TJH3113 thank you, as a bass player who just started I love your videos, they give a good idea how to play certain songs... And the masks are epic :p
Nothing beats a Ric tone, hey may i ask what kind of bass is the black one in the background? an Ibanez? is that what im reading?
They definitely have their own sound, that's for sure. Yes, that bass is an Ibanez Roadstar II RB-750??? I believe.
Hipnótico
Thank you.
