    A bit of trivia:
For MANY decades we did not have the F# to G# change on PSG's, or the D# to E. However, Jimmy Crawford and Buddy Emmons had tried it, but they didn't use it much. But later Paul Franklin did it on several recordings and it drove us crazy.
And as always, we just HAD to have it. Now it is "standard" on E9th tunings on PSG's. I could not do without it. I feel that MOST players would agree.
Note: Most do not raise the F# to G# on the 7th string. Rather they lower the G# 6th string to F# on that lever; which Buddy Emmons created when the famous song "Yesterday" came out by the Beatles. You can hear this on an album "Suite Steel" at the END of "Yesterday". As far as I know, that was the first recording using the 6th string G# to F# lick. If I am incorrect, please forgive me.
The following is a link to the album:

Thanks, Aaron. I've been working this video all week- nice to have early access through Patreon. That pedals down 5th fret move at 5:10 sounds great.

Hello Aaron. Super great as always. Who said an old dog (like me) can’t gleen some new ideas from your teachings! Your licks really do open up a lot of new ideas. Thanks again my friend. Tim

Really nice sounds. My vertical lever only raises 1 & 7 a half step from F# to G. I don't use it much but does it also make a 7th with pedals down? Thanks Aaron

Brian, you will get a Maj.7 with this knee and A,B pedals down. Open you would have an A Maj7 that is with A,B, and this knee.
      Keep picking!

If it only raises it a half step, you will have a dominant seventh chord, not a major seventh.

So I have a starter pedal steel with only 3 pedals and one knee lever (E to Eb) if I was to add a couple knee levers, which ones should I add? like which ones would be most useful?
and thanks for doing all these videos for us! I’m not sure how i would learn steel without having such a wide selection of your instructional videos !

Micah, thanks. I would add the E to F knee next. That raises your 4th and 8th strings from E to F or a 1/2 tone. I also have a video on the B to Bb knee. Just Goggle best knee lever to add to your steel guitar and it will come up. Thanks!

Hi Aaron, what exactly did you glue on the two L-705 pickups and why?

    • @SteelPicking
      @SteelPicking  5 років тому +1

Knut, you have a good eye. The pickup is really hot so on the E9th neck I put a piece of black electrical tape under the 1st or F# string to tone the note down a little bit. On the C neck I placed the tape under the 3rd and fourth strings. Hey I might be crazy but it seems to have taken a little of the high edge off. Also to balance the volume from string to string.
      Keep Picking!

Hi Aaron, thanks for answering my question. At the moment I'm experimenting with different string diameters to get a well balanced loundness for all strings, but I'll give your taping method also a try. :-)
      Best .. Knut
