    Haven't really been able to get into a 4x since Civ4, and i finally did with Old World. I'd really suggest any 4x player give it a try, or anybody thinking of getting into 4x too. It really is a special game.
    Great video.

    Great video, I agree with all your points.
    Just to expand on one that I find especially helpful with the games replayability is the random tech pool that you get. A big thing that can change from game to game is how soon the technology that comes up that allows you to gather wood. Some games it comes up fairly quickly, but other games it comes up later, either through tech draws or your own choice. In those instances you have to purchase wood through trade, and in some games where no one has the tech the price can reach astounding heights, often changing my strategy up.
    Great video!

      I didn't go deep into the tech approach in the vid - but I really love how they do it. As you said, you get some interesting shake ups as people miss 'key' techs, but also those decisions here and there to skip out on the tech you wanted to get the bonus card that's going to give you a big immediate boost. Another feature that's unorthodox - but really refreshing and well implemented.

    I play Civilization since the first version and for me Old World is the best 4X game. I love this game.

    I totally agree with you. I remember this game came out close to Humanity. And I was expecting Humanity more than any else. But I played this game, and fell in love. I t's curious how many things in this game make me feel like I was playing Civ 4, and then I realized the main designer is Soren Johnson. There so many things I want to talk about this masterpiece, (yes, it is a masterpiece for me) but I think one important thing is the orders system you mentioned. It feels restrictive at first, but then you see that it is actually a flexible and fun system that really makes this game outshines other strategy games. And there are others things too that made me feel the same, like the trade system and the tech tree. Oh, And developers update this game constantly, and really , I get really excited each time they make an update. I'm glad this game is gaining more and more apraise from gamers, and wish developers are cooking on their next project. What you think it could be? Romance of the three kingdoms? Medieval World? Game of thrones?

      Civ IV was such a huge jump forward for the franchise, and I have the upmost respect for Soren Johnson for his role in that game. I feel like he has all the ability to make a real contender to Civilization, but he just didn't. He and his team made something mad and unorthodox - a game that really does feel unique and special in the space.
      I've been really impressed with the studio over the past couple of years. Their constant updates improvements to content, QOL, the AI - I think Old World still has a few more years left in it - but I cannot wait to see where they go next.

    Great video!!! Thank you for this. I really wish we had more content creators for Old World. I really love this kind of videos and wished there was more play through video that explains the thought process, especially when they are well edited and narrated.

      Thank you - glad you enjoyed it! I will certainly be returning to Old World - I always have fun making videos on it so hopefully there's a content release around the corner to give me an excuse to make another one!

    Great review , Old World is my favourite CIV-like game. I enjoy playing it more than Civilization 6 and 5. 👍

      It's definitely overtaken Civ for me too lately, though we'll see if VII changes that

    No, combat is rather broken. All advantage is on the attacker, turning warfare into a game of checkers, add to that that snowballing is too easy, and you win as soon as you have 2x the victory points, and it is a flat and silly game.

    • @ginxtv
      @ginxtv  12 днів тому

      I can see where you're coming from, but I can't say I agree on those points. Defender can absolutely gain advantage from terrain and fortify. Combine that with good order management and force-march, and the defender can easily turn the tide on their follow up turn.
      As for the snowballing, honestly, I've found Old World to be one of the closest games between player and AI. Maybe I'm missing something, but playing on The Magnificent / The Great - I never feel like I can win a game by just getting ahead and snowballing. It feels pretty tense and games always push into the endgame.

      @@ginxtv Defender advantage does nothing, because the attacker takes 10x less damage on the attack compared to being on the offense. If it was 1/1 or close to it, it would matter, as is defender bonuses are a player trap that does nothing.
