- How To Add Cursor Effects In Camtasia 9
Camtasia is a powerful video editing app that lets you add cursor effects to your videos. Once you've recorded your video, add it to the timeline and choose one of the following effects:
Cursor Highlight
Cursor Magnify
Cursor Spotlight
Within the Camtasia 9 cursor settings, you can change variables like color, size, blur, and even fade in and fade out the effect.
Use cursor effects so your viewer can easily follow along with your tutorial or training.

Thanks for the video. I am not sure if the smart focus effect has changed since Camtasia 9. Still, after watching this video, I decided to look into it (I am a new user here, so I am still exploring the features list), and it's now my favourite feature by far in Camtasia! The only requirement for it to work is the canvas size needs to be smaller than the recorded screen size. I record in 1920x1080, but I set the project canvas size to 1080x720 because when I zoom into a section of the screen (which I've been doing manually using a custom animation effect), the recording screen won't get pixelated. But now, I drop the smart focus effect to the timeline, and most of the work is done for me! If needed, I can remove part of the effect I don't want and voila!
Hi Stephen. Thank you for your video. It explained exactly what I needed! Really spot on! :) All the best!
You're very welcome, happy to help!!
Thank you so much!! Exactly what I needed!!
Thanks Steve... this really helped me a lot! Cheers! Greetings from Dubai!
You're welcome! Hello from Chicago, IL, USA!
Tx Stephen, so clear explanation. I'm on 9.0.5 ,followed your steps , but could not add any cursor effect into timeline, no any indications happened. @4.19 your said "applied immediately", anybody knows what could be wrong. I have single Track1
Thanks Stephen- it was really helpful. YOU ! save my day.
You're welcome!
hi, Stephen, thx for this tutorial, and here's an issue I have, I recorded a video from my iPhone, and try to add the cursor effect in Camtasia (MacOs), but I found I can drag cursor Highlight to Track2, but it just cannot get applied on the video, did u have this issue before? thanks!
Nice, it helped me a lot.
Very Nice Video
Thanks! Happy to help. Do you use Camtasia to make teaching videos?
Thank you!
You bet!
ty :)
np :)
gracias!
De nada!
I recorded on SnagIt and opened up Camtasia for editing but it won't let me drop the cursor option onto the timeline. I came here to find out what I did wrong but you did exactly what I thought I should do. =( Great clean video though.
Hi Linh - I answered this for you on my LIVE STREAM (Sundays at 5pm US Central Time): ua-cam.com/video/A5YTNiNUHZM/v-deo.html
It sounds like SnagIt and Camtasia work a little differently - unfortunately, I do not have a workaround for you at this time, but I will look into the issue a little more for you.
It only works for laptop recorded videos ?
Correct, you have to use Camtasia when recording your videos in order to use the cursor effects.
what is your patch version?
I'm using version 9.1.2 (Build 3011).
Camtesia 9 dont have smoothing efect ?!

Hi does this feature only work when the content is recorded with camtasia?
Hi Tameka - yes, this only works for videos recorded with Camtasia (the program records mouse tracking data to make it possible).
How can I save the cursor to the video. I CAN NOT see the cursor in saved file, however i can see it in timeline video.
Hey Mehdi - if you didn't record the video with Camtasia, the cursor will not show up. You have to record your screen using the Camtasia recorder.
If you're having trouble seeing it after you export the file but can see it when you edit, there might be an issue with the file - contact TechSmith customer support so they can work it out for you.
Hope this helps!
Hi: I applied that but it appears at the right bottom corner and doesn't move with the mouse pointer. what is wrong?
please replay to me
thanks
Hi Rabab- sounds like a computer problem. Have you tried restarting your computer and trying again?
i want to ask how to add mouse shape to the left of the screen and when i press left button or right or middle it shows the effect on the mouse at the corner of the screen
or
the following mouse to my pointer showing the clicks
Good question, Yasser- you would have to create this manually since there is no option in Camtasia to do this for you.
