Skydiving Review | How does it Compare to Roller Coasters and Amusement Rides?

  • Skydiving was a bucket list activity for me. As an avid roller coaster and amusement park enthusiast, I thought skydiving would have similarities to the thrill rides I had previously experienced across the world. It did not. In this video, I will review my experience skydiving!
    I went skydiving at Skydive Pepperell in northern Massachusetts in fall 2019. It was a tandem jump from 10,500 feet!

    I did a tandem skydive for the first time yesterday, and this video was really useful for understanding what to expect. Like you say, the rush really comes from the flight up and going out of the door, a plane is the ultimate lift hill. For me, it really just felt like I moved towards the door and then I was out, I didn't really "jump" or even wait to be pushed, the whole thing was just one smooth motion from the instructor. If I'm honest, I love coaster airtime, and I was kind of sold on the idea of "40 seconds of airtime". That's not what you get... freefall is, like you say, more just a feeling of floating with the wind rushing past at 120mph. But the views are incredible, and of course there is the release because the waiting and the anticipation are over. And the parachute opens and gliding back down is peaceful, but also very mild (even milder than a Star Flyer, say). All in all, I enjoyed it a lot, but I think I'd like to do another tandem where I could just focus on the experience without the anticipation of jumping out of a plane for the first time. For me it feels like a very good coaster, probably even the best coaster I've ever ridden (because of the views and the duration of freefall), but also very expensive for a single "ride" and I doubt the actual experience changes much each time you do it. I think I will do 2-3 tandems per year, maybe even do some introductory classes, but I will still visit parks and ride more coasters. I don't feel like skydiving "ruined" coasters for me - I'm still excited to try new rides - but it does feel like it's a great occasional, if expensive, option for a day.

    Nice video! I completely agree with your review. I did find the SkyJump off the Stratosphere to be more intimidating. I had no time to worry jumping out of the plane as like you said, the instructor had control. Did you get to pull both steer handles together? Nice pops of floater airtime, while floating in the air!

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 роки тому +2

      I think skydiving was more intimidating since there was more build-up with the safety video, training, and plane ride. Skyjump was a shorter overall process even if you had to jump off on that one.

    i really enjoyed watching you talk about your experience with skydiving i myself have gone twice and its interesting because i feel like i might be the only person who made this "mistake" but the first time i sort forgot to arch my feet up many times and my insturctor had to tap my feet to remind me more then once. and its rather funny but the second time i went i think i sort of forgot to breathe because i was slightly more freaked out for some reason. but overall i had really positive experience both times i went :)

    I have a question that you might know, if drop towers are free falling and skydiving is free falling, how do you get airtime on a drop tower but no sort of weightlessness while skydiving?

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 роки тому +2

      Have you ridden Falcon's Fury? I don't really feel weightless on that ride either. I think it's the position you ride in.

    • @maxhagenauer24
      @maxhagenauer24 3 роки тому +1

      @@CanobieCoaster Yeah maybe, cause when you are in a sitting position facing out, I think you can get a red out after a while. So if drop towers were much longer of a fall, you might get a red out eventually but other factors probably play in like the weight and shape of the gondala as that might effect your speed. Idk though, I am no physics nerd.

    • @ronnieroberts7414
      @ronnieroberts7414 3 роки тому +1

      It has to do with max velocity in free fall. On a drop tower you are much closer to the ground so you feel the acceleration of gravity that gives you the airtime feeling. In skydiving the air rushing past you quickly matches the speed of your fall and prevents you from accelerating (terminal velocity) so you dont get the airtime feeling only for maybe the first 2 or 3 secs after you leave the plane

    • @maxhagenauer24
      @maxhagenauer24 3 роки тому +1

      @@ronnieroberts7414 So if drop towers were a lot taller like let's pretend thousands of feet, you would eventually not feel weightless anymore as your falling?
