Sorry to those who got hit. Broke my arm helping my neighbours evacuate their valuables after jasper last year. Cut off by flood water, no painkillers but panadol, ambulance came through on day 5 to let me know water was down, gave me some endone and let me drive myself to hospital so I would have a way to get home. Had the neighbours in my spare room for 4 months. insurance refused to pay them. Highway was cut in a few places then, 13 months later it's still 1 lane in 2 places, trips to town are an extra 30 minutes. But there's billions for highways and stadiums and all the rest of it in Brisbane. We can't even get a highway that stays off the flood plains. If only every town on the coast had a port supplies could come in through. Oh wait they do.

Something is up in the Southern Hemisphere for sure. In South Africa, we had continuous rains through December into Jan. We have shortages on veggies now because they rotted from the rain. We feel you guys, it is crazy.
All of north qld is almost out of food and fuel. No trucks can get in as bridges washed out. How are things going to be resolved. I feel so devastated for every one affected and pray everyone is safe.
part of the problem is developers keep buying up floodplains and building them up to build houses on them. then the water has nowhere to go because what used to be a low paddock or scrub/bushland is now 1-2 meters higher. so the water has to go elsewhere.
The elevation and flood resistance is a by product of design, the elevation was to allow air flow to the sub floor to aid with cooling during the warmer seasons.
It was a desperate flood in Brisbane twice in the last decade, no road in or out up North. Hope you guys can hold it together but probably have no internet. A land of floods and drought!
Since i worked on a drill rig in North Western QLD in the mid 80,s there would have to been at least 3 cyclone events and another 3 flooding events. Just go to show the spirit of the North Queenslander.
And here I am at South Mission Beach. Flooded and stuck on my island bed. Water is touching the bottom of the mattress. It's off the floor. Seems no SES assistance for us, besides offers of a ride up the street to where it's dry.
Thing is, volunteers need resources that the locals need too, food, water, a place to sleep. so going there to help isn't as helpful as you think. collecting things to donate is helpful, but you still have to use transport to get the donations there. Seriously the best thing you can do to help is contact people via social media who are there and ask what you can do. we got 800mm in ONE HOUR in December last year. I was stranded behind flood waters with a broken arm last year for 5 days. drove myself to hospital when I could. the donations you send never get through to us. they couldn't even send a rescue chopper for me it was raining that hard. highway is STILL one lane in two places. But there's billions for highways in brisbane.
So nice t see they allowed comments on this one

Kuranda range is a prime example. 12 months and nothing has changed. Feeling gutted for everyone affected.
So sad this happened to you. Willow bark tea is a natural pain medicine. The LORD bless and protect you!

Terrible news 😢prayers ❤
Great to see the QLD premier on the scene, being his family town👍
AusAID needs to be investigated immediately
Probably the same as USAid. Money going into the pockets instead of helping people.
Repeated same news about floodings each year in Australia....Why not relocate to other better areas???

QLD infrastructure and toads are the worst in the country
You’d think knowing what the weather is like in summer they’d start making changes
Hello! I'm a French bearded guy from France. It's in Europe. I'm watching this TV channel each day. See you at the Eurovision, Australia! 😁😃
Good luck to all effected. I hope you get help both financial and physical with the clean up. Aussie come together in times of need.
This is why they live in elevated homes called Queenslader.., but property damage 💔 😢

Sucks to be you! Best wishes from French Canada 🇨🇦! Get serious, save whatever species you have left and stop denying climate change. 😊

I'm so sorry for what you are going thru.
How can we volunteer to help

floods arent a terrible thing. there part of mother natures ecosystem. Without them thered be problems
Sure but they are getting worse.
Or do we just drive there and just help
There's no food, fuel getting in. Where would you stay. You need to wait untill water has gone and things are set in place.
