    Things to know about Al Wakrah Pet friendly dog beach, how to get to Al Wakrah DOG beach , what is it like? is it safe for my dog? Can you let your dog off the leash or lead and run free?
    Finding places to walk your dog in Qatar is relatively easy, given that there are so many vacant lots of dusty land dotted around all over the city, but also quite challenging, as you may often encounter piles of waste and litter and also get hassle from people who fear or dislike dogs. The ground can be rough and difficult to walk on and nowhere is completely traffic free, as empty land is often used as a short cut, given that most people have 4WD vehicles.
    The small town of Al Wakra is about 20km south of the city, and there are a number of ways to get there, including a fast new highway which passes by the new airport. Some expats choose to live in Al Wakra, but there isn't much to do there, and it is a long taxi journey into Doha for nights out and shopping.
    As you drive into Al Wakra, you will see a large power station/desalination plant on the left (Ras Al Funtas). Shops will appear on both sides of the road.
    Personally, I choose to drive onto the beach and head off as far to the right as possible - at low tide this will usually get you far away enough from other beach users to ensure that you have a lot of space for your dog to run around freely without bothering, or being bothered by, other people. But don't drive onto the beach unless you have been with someone else first, as there are only one or two safe places to get onto the beach and you need to know where the areas of soft sand are, which must be avoided if you don't want to get your car stuck! Once on the beach, drive as close to the water line as possible, as this will keep you away from the soft sand, and also avoid any of the raised spits of dry sand, as these tend to be softer and more difficult to drive on.
    It is very helpful to know the tides, as the water here is very shallow for many hundreds of metres, so even a 10cm difference in tide height can produce a rapid change in the amount of dry beach available. At low tides, you can drive right out to the old lorry axle which is situated down the far end of the beach.
    Are you moving to Qatar, what are the most important things you need to know about coming to live work or visit Qatar if you have a dog or pet:
    At mid tide, this area is covered, but you can park closer to the land and there are lots of sand islands you can walk out with your dog. The water gets no deeper than knee or thigh height anywhere on the beach.
    There is land around the beach, but it is usually busy and covered in BBQ waste and litter, so not ideal for dog walking.
    After moving from the UK to work in Doha, Qatar as total newbies, we decided to write these ultimate guides of some of the most important things to know about moving to and living and working in Qatar.

      @@leeandlucytravel I’ve been considering moving to Qatar from England as well but the weather is one thing that I do find intimidating I must say!

      The weather isn’t really an issue, yes it’s hot (very hot) for 3-4 months of the year but the rest is ok, sometimes even cold!! The hot times it’s AC accomodation to AC car to AC workplace!! You should make the move 😀

    Thanks for the video guys. We arrive in Doha in March and expect to have our furry friend in country around June. We might see you on the beach sometime!

    Hi, thanks for video. We have 7 dogs and would like to take them down to Wakrah beach. I notice in some shots there are quite a few other cars. Do you know of any times of day when the beach is quieter?

      Hey thanks for watching, I think that video was filmed at the weekend, it depends on your work schedule, if you can go non weekend then you will hardly see anyone, we go Sunday or Monday and it’s pretty much just us and some friends. Make sure you check the tide times before you go and aim for 1-2 hours after low tide. Let us know and we can meet you there with the babies, would be good

    We are thinking of making the move to Doha. We have two dogs can they have a good quality of life in doha and what do you do for dog sitting when you want to travel. Love the videos.

      Our two boys are loving life, we choose our times when to walk them of course but they are fine!! Lots of dog owners here 😚 we have a very reliable and trusted doggy day care and they go there for a furry vacation when we travel, we take them also once or twice a month there so they feel happy, it’s like a holiday for them with their buddies

    Im moving to Doha in August and planning to bring doggo as soon as possible after. Can I find dog friendly accommodation- if so where are the best places?

    • @leeandlucytravel
      @leeandlucytravel  27 днів тому

      Hey Wendy, there are many dog friendly accommodation options, more important make sure you are somewhere that you can walk your baby, some places aren’t really places to be out walking

    Hi 👋🏻 we are looking to move out to Doha very soon from Cyprus so we are used to a bit of heat... As you say it's very hot for 6 months of the year what's it like to own a dog out there? 😊

    • @leeandlucytravel
      @leeandlucytravel  2 роки тому

      Hey coral, thanks for talking the time to watch and comment, we appreciate it. It’s super hot here for 5 months of the year. We have 2 dogs and we walk them twice a day, better to walk them early morning and late night may to October. Rest of the time is fine. But in summer the payments are super hot in the daytime, but to be honest it’s ok as a dog owner here, you just have to pick and choose your walk times

    Is a cane corso allowed in Qatar?

    • @leeandlucytravel
      @leeandlucytravel  2 місяці тому

      As far as we know the cane corso isn’t currently on the banned breeds, it would be wise to keep checking as things do change
