Vampire's Kiss is basically Nicolas Cage's American Psycho.

“Peter's strange accent is supposed to be a fake accent used by the character because he thinks he sounds more "elegant" and "smarter" (hence the literary agent job). The accent comes and goes throughout the movie and is more prominent when trying to impress people, and less in scenes with people like the psychiatrist.”

@misterkite There was a movie in the early 1920's called "Dracula's Death" where the movies mysterious villain is revealed to a man who's deluded himself into thinking he's Count Dracula, and it ends with him dying because in order to prove to the lead characters he's a vampire he shoots himself thinking it wouldn't kill him hence the title, but sadly it's a lost film.

Nicholas Cage based his accent in this film on his father, August Coppola. Coppola was a literature professor, and he felt that entitled him to speak with a bit of a posh accent. Since Cages character was a literary agent in this film, he felt he should speak with that same kind of posh. Cages roles are a cornucopia of one artistic influence to another. You never know what to expect from him. And he's a genius for it. I love him so much I'm this movie! 😂

Nicholas Cage character I think his name is Peter? Suffers from personality disorder and his job took a deep toll on him adding to his mental health declining so there was never a vampire and Rachel who is a actual person he had a one night stand with and for some reason hallucinates and imagine her being a vampire don't exist she was just a figment of his imagination.

All of the scenes on the street are with real people, not extra's. Cage went all out with this role and wanted to fully commit to being a person that is going crazy. Which he is excellent at. You can see later characters in several different scenes, and Nicolas Cage has said this is was his favorite role. The director allowed him to do whatever he wanted and fully supported whatever choice he made. He did try to talk Cage out of eating the roach, but did agree to film it. Cage hasn't really had the same freedom in later films, even with Face Off he didn't get to do everything he wanted to do.

His character is so odd even before he is supposedly bitten. If he lived in my neighborhood he likely would have had a crowbar upside his cranium. I'm sure that I read in the Bible, "A fool's mouth invites a beating". Just saying...

Millenial quote of the day: "I dont know what mescaline is."
As for "she could just quit", this was during the Reagan years. Good jobs were not plentiful or easy to come by, especially during the rise of corporate culture. Gave rise to the common refrain "be happy you have a job. " Didnt you watch THEY LIVE or WALL STREET?
