Good evening, Gentlemen...just for clarification, Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds was released in 1978, for the 40th anniversary of the Welles broadcast - the "Highlights" album was the one issued in 1981 - you had the full original version on the show this week, and it's a great album...hokey? Maybe to some, but not to me...I've always loved it. Now, onto the box sets - FOUR HUNDRED BUCKS for a box set of Weezer's first album? YIKES! Generally, I stick to CD box sets, and generally it's album collections, although I do have a couple of the early box sets from Carpenters and Chicago, neither one of which are still in print as they were. I'd like to find the Neil Sedaka box set released in the mid-90s, as it's the only place you can get several of his tracks. I bought a deluxe version of Alphaville's "Forever Young" a couple years back with vinyl, CD, and DVD. And I did do both of the War sets on RSD over the past couple of years because I didn't have the albums, but for the most part, I don't bother, unless there's a chance to get a full library of albums on CD, which I've done for both Stacy Lattisaw and Chesney Hawkes (stop laughing, LOL). But I'd probably do or have done a box set like that if it came from one of my absolute favorite acts - Carpenters (have the original "From The Top" box set from the late 1980s), Def Leppard (have one of those, but not all of them), Hanson (bought the "Anthem" deluxe CD set), Lukas Graham, Dadi Freyr, Three Dog Night, and one or two others. More power to those that have the bucks to do it, and those who enjoy them, but they're usually out of my price range - I'm not even doing the new Abba "50 Years" set because of the price. I do wish I still had the original WB-issued "Superstars of the 70s" set from 1973, that was the first box set I ever got, and loved it...long gone, unfortunately. Sorry this turned into a book, hope you both have a great week, and Steve...there's this wonderful thing called a spreadsheet...use one to keep track of your ordering...LOL....
Thanks for the clarificaion on the War of the Worlds. Hokey may not be the right word.. but still cool. Does that count as Prog Rock?!? (although I'm partial to the Orson Welles broadcast. - I have a couple different copies of that) and wow! quite the selection of box sets! as always, thanks for watching!!
Believe it or not I think I have that Superstars box set, it came into Jim’s store. It was fairly inexpensive. I need to check it out. TC, I’m a sucker for a box set but I have backed way off of them. Price is getting a little crazy. That said I just bought 2 from Jim. I still try to support his store as much as possible.
nice! white label NAZZ. i have an OG NAZZ NAZZ on orange vinyl very cool. i bought that war of the worlds thinking it was JEFF LYNNE d,oh!! its not bad. i got into boxes heavy in the 90,s. i had a friend who worked for WEA i was able to get all of my RHINO boxes at cost. that was nice.
Interesting stuff. I have a few rock boxes but I'm not a fan of live albums or demos, so it's not a huge part of my mania. I can occasionally be seduced into buying a discography or an "era" box of an artist's work (Fleetwood Mac, Robyn Hitchcock). I do have well over a hundred classical boxes. They have to be major labels and pristine (including booklets). I've picked them up for as little as 10 cent (Canadian!). When I was at Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh, I picked up a free box of box sets. Kept the ones that were in pristine shape. Alas, there were no Ozzy Osbourne sets in there.
What, no Ozzy box set in that free box, kind of a rip Darrell. I have a ton of those classical box sets. Periodically I pull one out to enjoy. I like ones with composers that are new to me. The nice thing is they have rarely been played
I’m not a huge fan of box sets but I did just get a NM copy of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness for $50. Not bad for four records. I bought the CD but never played it because it is too much. It is still too much but it is more digestible on vinyl.
A CD box set! Oh my!

Jim you missed a great opportunity to talk about albums from Steve's High School days....😂
LOL! 78's?!? (joking!)

90s CD box sets were crazy. I had so many of them, loved them but never listened to them much

Wow Richie, only $50 for that Punpkins box set in I’m not a huge fan of that album but for $50 I would have grabbed that!
Fun session! How do those Sugar pressings sound? I recently picked up Copper Blue & Beaster 2020 clear re and they sound pretty good.
I think they sound really good. Personally I wish they had the original art work but the sound quality is quite good
