Hi! The lock is to lock your zipped compartment inside the bag. You pull the tab down after zipping it, you can push it through the metal part and then lock it with your lock. A small and simple detail that makes your handbag more luxurious!
Really love your bag and I always gravitate towards cute things too even if I don’t necessarily need them. However, I am all for organization which pouches do great with, but if you want to ensure that your bag is spared if anything spills inside the pouch, I think it’s best to have a pouch that is somewhat leakproof especially when you think about the type of items you keep in the pouch.
