The reasons I believe Alicia keys "fell off" are, I think the backlash she received from her relationship with Swizz Beatz really affected her image. I also feel the music that she is known for/makes-- which is straight R&b is not what is mainstream anymore. I believe R&b (a least the more mainstream r&b) has become more pop sounding, it incorporates hip hop elements more and it's a lot edgier. I think this clashes a lot with alicia keys' style. This has been the trend for R&b over the past decade. It's really unfortunate, because I definitely feel that alicia keys is one of the greatest talents in the last few decades. She really dominated most of the 2000s.

Girl on Fire’ and beyond was lack luster. Then when she went independent, the music became more and more subpar. It wasn’t hitting like her earlier projects. Then to make matters worse, she had that interview with Swizz Beats and his ex-wife, and the fact they be taking vacations together (the 3 of them) didn’t help. I think Alicia keys stepping away from the piano driven songs starting with albums like girl on fire made her unfortunately less unique. She debuted in a time where the piano led hip hop soul was her niche and allowed her to stand out amongst her contemporaries but once that changed the music was never the same. She will always be relevant but I think she’s been struggling with trying to maintain a contemporary sound.
I think you may be on to something, I think the last album I really liked from her was "As I Am" when she was at the piano. A lot of her music afterwards fell flat for me.
She also did that "No Hair and Makeup" thing for a while and was very public about it. I think maybe that kinda made her unmarketable? Where Alicia messed up was getting into a relationship with a known married man even if him and his wife were on the road to divorce she lost a lot of support once the truth of their relationship and how it came about was exposed, she had a fan base of middle aged and late 20 year old women at the time , her dealings with swizz beats turned alot of them off I remember being younger and my aunts would say “turn that home wrecker off “ 😂😂 they wouldn’t even play her music for a while or support her new music because they all been in the wife shoes , no matter how Alicia tries to paint it you don’t just jump in a new relationship after only months after a divorce of a decade old relationship with a man unless y’all been messing around while he was married , I think she lost touch with her fans after that but she’s still successful neither less “unthinkable” will forever be my shit 💅🏼

I always attributed Alicia's "bad singing" era to the fact that she probably was still getting used to her new voice. People's voices change with age, childbirth, etc. and it definitely takes time and effort to grow into and get comfortable with. But last year a friend of mine said that she went to an Alicia Keys concert in the early 2000s and quote "If I wasn't for her backup singers, I would've left within the first 30 minutes." My friend was not at all impressed with Alicia's live voice, and in fact said she sounded horrible. Now I can't corroborate this, I've never seen Alicia live, and for all we know, my friend just could've caught her on a bad day, because every singer has had a bad performance before. I never paid much attention to it, but after watching this video the algorithm exposed me to a whole discourse about Alicia Keys poor vocal ability so idk... Maybe she did pull the wool over our ears a bit lol. IDK, but honestly, I don't care either. I love Alicia's music, it was a big part of my childhood that I still cherish today 😊.

She's still beloved and popular. She has a few recent gold and platinum singles released, was recently nominated for more grammys and just completed a world tour. After 6 platinum albums, she took a more self fulfilling route to her music making than selling out commercially. So the sells aren't there like before but like Prince in his later years, she doesn't care about that
Her last 3 albums are still very popular and the singles play constantly on Adult R&B stations. Just not popular with 20 somethings or 30 somethings still trying to be 20 😅.

I think Alicia Keys career is solid & decent. I think she's alright but her career became pretty stagnant in 2010's decade when dance pop & electro pop really started to takeover. I think Alicia keys was at the height of her career in the 2000's decade when r&b was more prominent unlike now where there's a lack of r&b artists. I remember hearing her songs on the radio as a kid I was maybe like 4 or 5 & heard empire state & no one. I also think that Alicia Keys is such a low profile type of artist & she doesn't garner the mainstream appeal like her contemporaries like Beyonce , Rihanna , or even Usher. And I think she's fine w/ that. Overall I think Alicia keys career is doing fine & is going exactly how she wants it go.

Alicia was/is a VERY talented pianist. I’ve never really liked her singing. But she most definitely had some BANGERS!! I always thought that she came into the music industry on the cusp of the end of the popularity of Neo-soul & the beginning of the more Pop sounding R & B that’s prevalent today.

Where Alicia messed up was getting into a relationship with a known married man even if him and his wife were on the road to divorce she lost a lot of support once the truth of their relationship and how it came about was exposed, she had a fan base of middle aged and late 20 year old women at the time , her dealings with swizz beats turned alot of them off I remember being younger and my aunts would say “turn that home wrecker off “ 😂😂 they wouldn’t even play her music for a while or support her new music because they all been in the wife shoes , no matter how Alicia tries to paint it you don’t just jump in a new relationship after only months after a divorce of a decade old relationship with a man unless y’all been messing around while he was married , I think she lost touch with her fans after that but she’s still successful neither less “unthinkable” will forever be my shit 💅🏼

Look.... I'm 50 years old, and I've noticed over the decades one definite thing that's going on that Alicia is probably also going through. The same thing that Micheal Jackson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Gladis Knight, Tina Turner, Cindy Lauper, The BeeGees, etc. etc. etc. have went through. When times change, their era of music will pass them by. It's not that they can't sing, they may move on to what creatively motivate them, and that just may not appeal to the mainstream anymore. Prince stop making Little Red Corvette in favor of jazz/ funk music. The legends stop making studio albums because the current mainstream audience are into the modern freaky violent stuff today. Alicia Keys (in my opinion) is not about to bow down to Cardi B's, or Glozilla level of music just to win over a popularity contest, or for a payday. Neither did Micheal, Prince, Stevie, etc.
Can these legends change with the times? Sure. But why change who you are? I appreciate them staying true to their craft by stepping away to do other things, and keeping the fan favorites for live concert performances.

I always attributed Alicia's "bad singing" era to the fact that she probably was still getting used to her new voice. People's voices change with age, childbirth, etc. and it definitely takes time and effort to grow into and get comfortable with. But last year a friend of mine said that she went to an Alicia Keys concert in the early 2000s and quote "If I wasn't for her backup singers, I would've left within the first 30 minutes." My friend was not at all impressed with Alicia's live voice, and in fact said she sounded horrible. Now I can't corroborate this, I've never seen Alicia live, and for all we know, my friend just could've caught her on a bad day, because every singer has had a bad performance before. I never paid much attention to it, but after watching this video the algorithm exposed me to a whole discourse about Alicia Keys poor vocal ability so idk... Maybe she did pull the wool over our ears a bit lol. IDK, but honestly, I don't care either. I love Alicia's music, it was a big part of my childhood that I still cherish today 😊.

Yes I do want to fight you for calling her first album 'Mirror' that is not the correct name. 😂😂😂 But besides that she's an incredibly talented singer and really pretty especially for not wearing a lot of makeup. Her album sales dipped slightly between "As I Am & "The Element of Freedom" That was a telltale sign her relevance was beginning to decline especially since Rihanna was dominating the pop-world around this time. She had an album for every year consecutively from 2009-2012. Alicia had a pretty elite force of competition to go up against but she couldn't hang with em'. Her sound and image need to change consistently in order to stay in the spotlight and doing that at such a quick pace was just not for her. Her music and overall presence just became boring. Love Alicia Keys tho. ❤️👌🏽
