We've been homeschooling for 15 years and would switch back and forth from school schedule to year-round depending on our needs. We have a new baby coming in August (baby #6) and won't start the school year until after Labor Day and go year round. We will be taking multiple breaks throughout the year to give myself a rest. This pregnancy has been pretty rough and I don't want to overdo it. I have a 13 y/o that has learned to use my tiredness to her advantage. Gotta stay on top of it.

I appreciate you being up front about this! My sister ( Tx) has been following you for years, and I just discovered you last year. Ironically, I also live in Moscow, Id!! We moved here the same time you did, and last year was our first homeschool year. You are completely right about the vibe in this amazing town! We are doing a homeschool co- op( White Horse Hall). I am still finding the balance with pre- school, grade school, high school, adult children, and now grandbabies!

Thank you for being transparent. I love learning about this… it’s been very liberating for me. I’m a mom of 6, oldest being 12 and year round school totally makes sense for us. We are in NC and totally understand the hot summers and staying inside.

I grew up in Richland. I lived in Pullman at WSU and we had snow at graduation one year. 😂 I loved going to Moscow though. Good ol’ Palouse Mall. I live in Oregon now, but I am helping at a homeschool conference next February that you might be speaking at! 😊

Fun. lol - I know nothing about a homeschool conference in February, so we'll see. :)

I'm in a similar boat to you, Mystie! How do you manage the homemaking tasks then now that you're homeschooling NOT year round?

Life has changed in more ways than one. Now we're in a different season anyway. 1) I'm better at keeping house 2) we're currently renting a house that's half the size we used to live in 3) I only have 3 big kids at home. There are no more toy messes. The kids pitch in and we can whip things into shape in an hour or so when needed. Totally different than when everyone was little and needy.

@@simplyconvivial Congrats on making it to a new season -- no doubt it is also the result of hard work you put in when all the kids were younger 😉

I always wanted to homeschool year round but what you just described has been our life! We have pretty much always followed the local school schedule. That allowed us to be on summer swim team, play baseball, and be part of all the fun summer activities without interruption.

Yeah, activities and weather should be taken into consideration, for sure!
