    Europeans know how to live life!! I adore how boundaries around rest are firm (it's terrific that everything is closed on Sundays/afternoon) and that people seriously make enjoyment a priority in life.

      I agree so so much! Back in Mexico you would know that you will do extra hours, work more than what you are supposed to and if you ever went to a store or restaurant most likely they would allow to serve you even if they are about to close. Here? Nah hahahah it took me 3 tries to get my SIM card in a little town because I kept going close to siesta hours and they would just say no. Amazing in my opinion, we need to learn that not everything is express and people don’t live to work. I ended up getting the SIM card the day that I visited before 12 am 😂

    Love your channel! ❤ I’m Puerto Rican, raised in Southern California (San Diego). I lived in Barcelona for a while in Sant Gervasi and it was the best time of my life! Everything you’re saying is true! No car needed, easy way of life enjoying the simple things, not tons of choices. Yes I will say being from southern Cali, very well versed in Mexican culture and my own, we are much warmer as people than in Spain. But once I got to know people, I made the best friends. My landlady who owned my apartment wanted me to meet her son! 😂 People we’re genuinely kind to me and welcomed me with open arms. I’m also Afro Latina Puerto Rican. Lived in a primarily well to do neighborhood with mostly lighter skinned people and no one treated me unkindly. 😉 I made friends at the store and the restaurants and the coffee shops. Always greeted with “Hola guapa!” They all cried when I had to come back home. I cried harder, because that kind of routine and embracement LACKS here in the US. Go out there and live people! You only have one life. Enjoy it.
    Ps… I had to get radiation treatment while I lived there as well and it was the best care. 😉

    Living in Barcelona sounds a lot like my life when I lived in downtown Seattle, six blocks from the water. No need for a car, everything I needed and more, within walking distance, cheap transit including subway, bus, ferries. I absolutely love that village lifestyle, but in a large metro area with so much to offer.

    Hello Lou! I live in Switzerland and I can totally relate on the topics of the car/walking, candies and Sundays activities. I have family in Miami and visiting them in the US when I was growing up always chocked me how they spent so much time in their car to do EVERYTHING and never walk! I also thought it was weird to do shopping on sundays, like “do people ever rest or what?” 😂😂

    Hola Lou!
    I'm moving from Austria to Valencia with my Spanish husband and even though we're both fluent in Spanish (I'm Chilean myself 💖) I'm still freaking out about what a big change it will be and what a big operation it will be to do all the paperwork and make sure everything goes smoothly (we also each run our own businesses so I'm dreading the paperwork).
    We also want to move to a quiet non-touristic area of our city, and I'm wondering, how did you go about finding a place that was safe and comfortable for you both, how did you find that perfect neighbourhood?
    Love your channel and I was so excited to see you move to Spain too! We decided early last year but we have a lot of business to tie up here first - it's been really cool to see how well your move went and how happy you are! ☀

    For the food an important thing to know is that a lot of product use in US/America contain ingredients that are banned in UE, so that's why they taste different. An exemple in France (i'm french) we can't bring to the US everything that contains French milk because "in France, more than 90% of the milk consumed is UHT (Ultra High Temperature Pasteurized) and in the United States, on the contrary, 90% of the milk sold undergoes only simple pasteurization. It must therefore be constantly refrigerated and has a shelf life of no more than two weeks." (French Morning)

    • @lfavre7
      @lfavre7 Рік тому +1

      Yes, exactly it’s true. For example for the Fruit Loops, a lot ingredients are prohibited in the EU, that’s why they taste so different from the US even if you can find some here.

    16:48 I feel the same with movies! I can't watch one that has been dubbed, as a person who studied languages for her whole life it feels so weird to know that there is a voiceover while they are speaking another language, instead. The reason might also be that many countries do terrible voiceovers with just one voice actor for multiple characters and the results are absolutely not convincing.

    It's funny that you think that Spanish people are more direct than Mexicans. As I moved from France to Germany, I was deeply shocked how direct German people are. Two reasons for that. 1) IMO, the German language is THE perfect language to express yourself on a quick and accurate way. For example, if people are not allowed to be noisy, we say in French: "Vous êtes priés de ne pas faire de bruit". In German, succinctly: "Bitte leise sein!" (And I admit here that I always spoke German to my children to prohibit something 😁). 2) German people don't see the point of hiding their thoughts or opinions. Last summer, my daughter moved to the Netherlands and had herself a culture shock: She fand the people there much more direct than the German people!!! It's an European thing, I suppose... !?!?!

We had 3 areas in mind and we ended up going for the area the apartment we liked more was 😂 we knew we wanted to avoid touristic places and that we wanted to have specific things near but to be honest at the end of the day the market has only a few apartments available, being able to contact the realtors and them showing the place to you AND THEN the owners accepting your offer was so overwhelming. You should specify that you moved to SPAIN not Europe. Comparing it to México overall.
    I am from a Western European country &
    a permanent resident in México, living here for 1year now. And the comparisons are a quite a bit bended when you talk about "Europe", supermarkets, markets, subway, public transport, housing not being expensive "for Americans" etc....
    Cause that is very much not the case for Western European countries & the Nordics.
    As well as you state that 'it takes really long for professional people to come to your house, but when they come its fixed really quickly' in México that is WORSE. They say they come and don't come and you have to go through the same process of calling them multiple times, with topped frustration.
    And yes we are direct, gotta love that about the Europeans.
    Otherwise great video! Different then your normal topics.

    • @JesuisLou
      @JesuisLou  Рік тому +1

      Did mention in the video that I was talking about Spain and more specifically Barcelona at the beginning of the video and the title too, housing is more expensive for Americans (USA) more specifically, I compared it to my experience in Mexico. My family is from Germany and the life and culture are completely different from Spain, I have experienced it myself, I was just speaking about my area in Barcelona ☺️🤍
